CHAPTER 1
Preface
Learning to use AutoCAD software is similar to
learning a new language. Sometimes when you say
something in a foreign language to somebody, youexactly know and understand it but maybe your
partner does not. The intention was clear but the
execution was not. It is the same with AutoCAD.
Although learning AutoCAD is not an easy style, you
will have fun learning this exciting technology, even
sometimes you will not understand why the program
does not run or freeze. Your intention was obvious
and clear, only command prompt was not correct, or
the approach was wrong. Please do not give up in
this situation! I promise you will sit back satisfied
drinking a good glass of cold beer!

Starting Tutorial Project
In this work section planning
project of the sample building will
be created, starting data will be
filled in, and then the levels and the
divisions of the future building will
be defined.

Creating Ground Floor
External Walls
1. Press the top Close button and hide the
Project Navigator, and press Ctrl+3 to display the
Tool Palettesat the left side of the screen.
2. As earlier learned (Right-Click on the palette title
bar and select from the flyout) turn to the Design
palette group, and choose the Wallspalette.
3. Check in the drawing area if the column grid is on
the full screen; zoom in on itas much as the drawing
area size allows it. The simplest way is to click double
with the middle button of mouse (scroll) (Zoom
Extents).
At the same time check
if the OSNAP and the
ORTHO toggles are
turned on (if they are
active) in the status bar.
4. Check at the lower right corner of the drawing
area (on the label before the Cut Plane), if the Medium
Detail is active, if it is not click on display
configuration and turn on the Medium Detail in the
flyout.

5. Left-Click on the Tool Palettesof the CMU-8wall
type to start creating such a wall type.
6. By observing parameters of being drawn walls are
displayed on the Properties palettedocked at the rightside and at the lower Command window (and by the
cursor), program prompts to specify the start point of
the first wall.
7. Before selecting the start point check on the
Properties palette that the Width parameter is
8 (fixed parameter), the Base heightparameter value
is 10-0, and the Justify parameter is set to
Baseline.

8. If parameters are correct, draw the external walls
with the INTersection of the column grid. First draw
the walls of the Main Building, use as the start point A
and 1grid lines INTersection. To the wall end points
use the INTersection ofAand 2grid lines.
The last wall segment is made by the Close option,
which means program will automatically closes the
wholly drawn wall chain.
Use the novelty of AutoCAD 2013 options became
selectable in command window and click on the
Closeoption in command line.

If it would not be successful to draw the four walls in
a whole, then restart to draw the wall command (e.g.:
by pressing ENTER), and from the last right end point
continue to draw the walls. In this case do not use the
Close option because the last wall segment will be
closed to the start of newly created wall chain.
9. In the following you draw the passage connecting
two divisions. Select one of the drawn walls, and then
select the Add Selected option from the Ribbon
Contextual Walltab.
This command allows placing completely the same
Properties element from which you started.

the start points and as end points the INTersection of
Cand 3grid lines.
Then finish wall drawing with Right-Click or by
pressing ENTER.
11. After drawing the wall the original selected wall
remains selected until selection is discarded with
ESC , so Right- Click and the Add Selected
command will be also there, and select it.
12. The start points of the new wall will be the
INTersection of Dand 3grid lines, the end points will
be the INTersection of D and 2 grid lines, and then
close the drawing wall by pressing ENTER.

Next edit the wall as shown
below, which bounds 3-6
wide stair from the right wall.Position its start point to the
right place by using the
OTRACK (Object Snap

Properties palette.
18. If everything is right, TOUCHthe internal corner
point of the external walls with the center of the

DO NOT CLICK the point, but pull gently the
crosshair horizontally on inside of the wall to display
the dashed line of the Object Snap Tracking, and a
small X sign by the cursor, and a prompt Endpoint

the Object Snap Tracking has started and got 180
direction. Then let the mouse go and type the desired
distance: 3-6and press ENTER.
19. As the start point of the wall AutoCAD specifies
the point horizontally 3-6 far, and you can drag the
wall up with center justification. But if you need 3-6

Check again on the Properties palette if the Width
parameter is 4, the Base heightparameter value is
9- 0, and the Justifyparameter is set to Center.
30. From the INTersection of the construction line

33. Then drag the crosshair
to the left and add the length

If this wall segment has already created, feel free to
delete the construction line with eraser command.
