The Horror Genre

A horror film is dominated by elements of horror.

•This film genre incorporates a number of sub-genres.

•such as slasher themes, vampire themes, zombie themes, demonic possession etc.

•Some horror films exhibit a substantial amount of cross-over with other genres, particularly science fiction.

Certain stories and themes have proven to be very successful and have inspired many sequels for instance Dracula, Frankenstein etc

The horror genre tends to have a larger market share (a larger total gross) than there percentage of films released, this implies that the horror genre outperforms expectations.

White and Red typography used. This colour scheme has been used in many posters I have researched.

Mirror effect used to enhance the effect of the film.

Film title located at bottom. This again suggests that the main image is the centrepiece of the poster.

Bold concise text fancy and technical fonts are not used in this shows that the main aspect of this poster is the image.

Red and black colour scheme.

Main images emerge from a black background

Film title located in the middle. This is done so it does not interrupt the viewers attention from the main images as they are the usp for this particular film

Date of release is shown to inform the audience of the opening date.

Film Posters. These posters are a selection which represents the different type of structures used in film trailers.

All three of these posters are similar. They all use the same colour scheme and the main image emerges from a black background.

My Film Poster

I added the date of release to show the audience when the film is coming out. I chose to use October 31st as the date as many horror films are released on this date.

I cut out my actor from a single image and placed him on the background.

I added this image of a girl crying to give the viewers a sense of horror.

I created this font on Photoshop and gave it a red font colour so it would compliment my red black and white colour scheme.

All the crows which can be seen in the image have been added by me I did this as crows are scene as evil creatures and a denotation death and death is a main concept of my film.

I added this knife to my actors hand as it makes him look more sinister and represents a factor of horror movies.

I added this writing of the credits to make my poster look more professional as most posters have this feature.
