DR. CARTER G. WOODSON

Dr. Woodson invented Black History Month!

NAACP

He was affiliated with the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) but then due to disagreement he quit the NAACP.

HE WAS BORN DECEMBER 19, 1875.

HE WASN’T MARRIED.

His favorite excuse was he was married to his job.

HE DIDN’T HAVE ANY CHILDREN AS A RESULT.

HE WORKED VERY HARD!

He had to help his family out so he quit school.

HE SADLY DIED.

Died: April 3, 1950, Washington, D.C.

SCHOOLING

He didn’t know how to read and his parents didn’t know how to read ,but staggeringly he was taught to read.

He had to quit school ,but he went to three colleges!

Berea College

SIBLINGS

He had many brothers and sisters.

In fact he was one of nine children

BOOKS

Dr. Woodson wrote many books.

His work and books are still inspirational for many Americans.

But his most famous book is titled “The Mis-Education of the Negro”

PARENTS

His father and his grandfather were both skilled carpenters. His father’s name was James Henry Woodson and his mother’s name was Anne Eliza Riddle.

Dr. Woodson was the first and only African American born of former slaves to earn a PH.D. in history!
