‘My Sisters Keeper’

About the film:

The story about 11 year old Anna Fitzgerald conceived to be a donor for her leukaemia – stricken sister, but who finally demands the right to control her own body. This act of free will may tear the Fitzgerald's apart. Or it may be the first step to a triumphant realisation of devotion, dignity and what it means to be a family.

Film Opening Conventions

1. Enigma- leaves us intrigued as to what happens with the family.

2. Narrating by the young girl telling a story about her life.

3. Introducing the character by the narration.

4. High key lighting sets the mood of the film and shows a happy, bright life.

5. Music sets mood and genre.

Mise-en-scene

Costume – casual clothing to show just another normal family. Without knowing the problems they have.

Lighting – natural daylight. High key lighting to show realism.

Make up – natural to show that girls can be beautiful without lots of make up.

Props – There are no props used as the filming was all hand held and home videoed, however if there were props in the home video, it would be things such as the kite, bubbles, trampoline, glasses, food etc.

Setting – set by memories of the family, days out, home,etc..

Editing

There are dissolves, showing memories fading away. Also wipes, wiping the memories together.

Camera

-Slideshow affect shows past and memories from the family's life.

-Home video – shows home life of love and lifestyle. Also hand held camera to show the life is a bumpy road

-Mid shot of the girl right at the start - to show the protagonist.

Sound

Non – Diagetic:Anna- narrating in the background, the

family history and memoriesMelancholic music, sets the tone for

the whole film.
