Why I Created a Storyboard.

I created a storyboard to get into perspective what kind of features, camera shots, props and actors expressions I would be using throughout my video. By creating a storyboard, it helped me to get a better idea of the kind of feel I want for my video. I created a rough and simple draft for my storyboard, using lined A4 paper and pencil as I thought this would less inhibit my creativity, allowing me to make mistakes and different ideas. As I’m not the best of artists, I have to apologize for my terrible drawing (hence why I used stickmen).

Section 1

Section 1For my establishing shot (storyboard

section 1), I have clearly presented the main actors in a split screen style editing (To note; originally, it was my belief that I would use little if not any editing – that being wrong). In this three way split screen, I will establish the three main characters, and in turn they will hold up three cards, with the name of the band and its song. From the first establishing shot, it is clear my setting will be outside.

Section 2

Section 2• The second shot is meant to correlate

to the first line of the song. To show this, I have added the subsequent lyrics below in most storyboard sections. In this one, I have used intertextuality and turned the lyrics into scenes moreover my getting my Actor 1 to have “sick” thrown over him”, showing the comical effect.

Section 3

Section 3• Once again, the establishing shot is

repeated in terms of camera angles, shots, and prop styles except this time, the cards with words on will match the lyrics at that time. In this part however, my extra (the objection of all the characters' affections) will be introduced by placing her on one of the prop cards.

Section 4

Section 4• For my section 4, I’ve introduced actor 3

in more detail, having him throw the said prop cards with descriptions of the object of his affection by which he is demonstrating the romantic element I aim to present within the video. Still, all scenes are still set outside, as emphasised by small amounts of background scenery such as “Roadside”.

Section 5

Section 5• Once again, I will split screen (through

editing) two different scenes. To compliment the lyrics and the general theme, I have focused both split scenes on a romantic nature . One in which will be the central theme to the chorus of my lyrics, and one that will be uniquely highlight teenage heartbreak – that being present throughout the music song.

Section 6

• In this section, I have once again reverted back to intertextuality and repetition by linking the actions to the lyrics. This is added to create a comical and light hearted effect – one that will ultimately counteract the seriousness of heartbreak.

Section 7

Section 7• As you will begin to see, I will repeat

certain scenes (or make them similar) in order to link in with the repetition heard in the music video. I will attempt to make this comical and quirky by reinforcing the large flash cards idea – that being the words pertain to the lyrics.

• As the chorus kicks in, I have made my central images of a wall being plastered with posters of anti-Bridget Jones and anti- “director" to emphasise the chorus line and its repetition. This central scene will actually contain no actors or extras.

Section 9

Section 9• In this section, I wanted to once again

demonstrate the split screen editing effect present in most of my shots. Once again, this is to present a comical and quirky effect to my music video and story. Once again, my extra is introduced in the middle of the three way split screen in order to highlight that she is the object of the characters’ affections.

• I am further showing my extra to highlight the romantic effect in this one, as well as props in the other split screen side that link in with the intertextuality of the music song. If you’ve noticed, my actors are used randomly as, whilst they’re all used to represent a different character, I wanted to use them equally and differently – giving each actor/character a chance on screen.

Section 11

Section 11• I want my audience to know that my

video is a music video and for this, I have focused my scene on my three main protagonists playing (or pretending to) the guitar. This will also link in with the lyrics. I drew these ideas from my “Prop Ideas” that was already posted onto my blogger.

Section 12

Section 12• As you can see, this scene is a

repeated scene from my previous chorus (bearing in mind the chorus has repeated itself). Making connections as such in my music video will help the audience relate the music video to the music and hopefully they will begin to enjoy it even more so.

• Near the middle of my storyboard section 13, I have questioned to myself whether or not my three main protagonists should wear Bridget Jones masks to make the repetition of the music towards the end more interesting and comical. I’m still not sure on this and will go back to it at a later date. This time, I am not linking my lyrics to images as the lyrics are repeated and thus would be too repetitive and boring.

Section 14

Section 14• As the music reaches its climax, I have

started to wrap up my storyboards and in light of this, will feature my extra (the female romantic object) more to remind the audience of the romantic nature. It also links in to the very ending of the music video, thus foreshadowing in a way the ending and/or where the male protagonists will end up.

Section 15

Section 15• Following on from my section 14,

section 15 will follow on in the same effect, making the climax of the music video more interesting to contrast against the repetitiveness of the song ending. However, once again I have used the editing split screen effect to tie in with the chorus and thus, the ultimate meaning of the song and music video.

Section 16

Section 16 (the ending)

• As you can see, my ending finishes in a sad way in which the male protagonists are rejected by the female extra. This is the only scene in which the extra and the lead characters will meet. This is to highlight the overall meaning of my music video and the music song played – that being about the object of your affections not returning your love.
