Just in case you haven’t been following Corvette Racing this season, here is a recap of the IMSA Weathertech Series thus far. No. 5 Cadillac Dpi finished first overall in the Daytona Rolex 24 Hr. event to start the season, while the Ford GT continues its dominance in the GTLM division ahead of Chevrolet, with the No. 3 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R finishing in 3rd place. Next up the 12 Hr race in Sebring Florida was won by Team Nissan ahead of the No. 10 Cadillac DPi in the Prototype Class. The 2 car team Corvette C7.R finished 6th and 8th. Finally, in Long Beach, CA the Cadillac Dpi No. 5 and No. 10 finished 1st and 3rd overall, while in the GTLM the C7.R team redeemed themselves with No. 4 in first ahead of the Ford Its

and the No. 3 Corvette finishing 4th. Next race is in Ohio on May 4th. Check this link to see how to watch this series on local cable channels in our area. IMSA Racing

CORVETTE RACING AT LONG BEACH: Gavin, Milner Go Back-to-Back!

Seventh victory for Corvette Racing, Team Chevy in IMSA at Long Beach • 50th victory for Oliver Gavin with Corvette Racing • Garcia, Magnussen battle back to finish fourth in GTLM • 107th all-time class victory for Corvette Racing •LONG BEACH, Calif. (April 14, 2018) – Corvette Racing’s Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner raced their way to back-to-back victories in southern California by claiming the Bubba Burger Sports Car Grand Prix of Long Beach for the second year in a row. The duo won by 2.157 seconds in their No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R. It was the 107th class victory all-time for Corvette Racing and the first of its 20th season of competition. The team also won for the 16th time in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s GT Le Mans (GTLM) class. “This team just does not give up,” said Jim Campbell, Chevrolet U.S. Vice President, Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. "While we didn’t have the ideal starting position, Olly and Tommy took advantage of every opportunity on track and the crew executed in the pits. Congratulations to the No. 4 Corvette team for back-to-back wins at Long Beach.” Gavin also won for the 50th time with Corvette Racing – the most of any driver in program history. He now has five victories at Long Beach…three of them with Milner.

Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen finished fourth in the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R in what ended up being a comeback drive for Garcia. A mechanical issue dropped him from second to eighth on a restart with 52 minutes left. Gavin started the race fifth and drove the first 40 minutes before handing off to Milner during a full-course caution period. The No. 4 Corvette crew leap-frogged the No. 66 Ford in the pitlane, and Milner joined third among GTLM cars that stopped during the yellow.

The first car in class out of the pitlane was the No. 3 Corvette, which gained two spots on the stop. Magnussen started fourth and moved to third on the opening lap. Things looked to be going the way of the No. 3 Corvette until it didn’t go in gear on the restart. Once Garcia got under way, he went from eighth to fourth in the span of 36 minutes. He ended less than two seconds from a podium position.

Meanwhile, Milner went from third to second with 37 minutes left and took the lead for good 15 minutes later. It was a much more conventional victory than a year ago when he and Gavin won after the track became blocked in the final corner, and he got around the stuck No. 3 Corvette. Corvette Racing’s next event is May 4-6 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Hello Members! Hope you all have some May flowers! MBCC currently has 231 active members - 96 family and 21 single members.

We welcomed 7 new members at the April (breakfast!) meeting: Jim and Terry Beam - they have a white ’04 coupe, this is their first Corvette and first club membership. They have lived in Surfside Beach since May ’17. They are from Maryland. Jeff Estes - he has a torch red ’12 coupe, this is his first Corvette and club. He has lived in Myrtle Beach for 2 years, having moved from Charlotte. Dave and Marty Tilley - they have a silver ’05 convertible. They had ’76 and ’04 Corvettes and this is their first club.

They have lived in Surfside Beach for 3.5 years, moved from Kanapolis, NC. Tony Viscomi and Sandra Sparks - they have a white ’17 convertible. This is their first Corvette - they always had Camaros. They moved to Myrtle Beach in May ’17 from Arlington, Massachusetts and Pelham, New Hampshire.

Joe Perry Johnson let me know that Becky suffered a fall which broke her back and her dominant wrist. Sending many healing thoughts your way Becky!

Congratulations to Chad and Kelly Volentine for 5 years of membership this month!

AND AS USUAL- I have MBCC cling-ons for your car. They are static plastic - will not inflict any damage! The cost is $22 for 2. If you are interested in purchasing a set, let me know at [email protected]. I always have some with me at club meetings, as well as the car stickers ($3.00).

If you attend club events where everyone will meet and caravan to the particular event, please come with a two-way radio so that you can communicate with others in the caravan, especially the leader. All two-way radios should be tuned to Channel 8. In addition, we now have club shirts that can be worn to group events. You are not required to purchase a shirt, but if you want to, the information will be at the end of the Vette Gazette.

Should there be any changes/corrections to your address, phone number, email, etc, please let me know at [email protected] so we can keep our roster up-to-date and you don't miss out on any of the fun. Please also let me know if there is an illness or passing of a member. Thank you.

It has been said that April showers bring May flowers so we should have a bloomin’ May!

As I write this, we have not had our April luncheon at California Dreamin’ but I’m optimistic it will be a successful event. There are currently 52 members signed up to attend & I can’t wait to see who earns a free lunch with the music quiz. May will have fewer activities than normal due to the two bike weeks, but remember that we still have our 2 cruise-ins and our monthly meeting. Milardo’s on the 2nd of May, and Papa’s on the 15th of May.

The monthly meeting on the 20th of May (note the date change due to Mother's Day) which will be held at the clubhouse at Barefoot Landing.

Have a wonderful Mother’s Day, happy Memorial Day holiday and remember to drive those Corvettes safely this month!

Well, our car show is right around the corner, about 6 weeks to be exact. Registrations are slow coming in but we’ll get there. So far we have 20 different clubs represented, of which a lot of them are new clubs to our show. Word does get around. We’re still looking for more registrations from our own members. If you are interested in bringing your car to the show, please get your pre-registration in with your check. You do not have to SHOW your car for judging,

but it will look good to see a lot of our club cars. We park our cars in a separate location from the others.

Thank you to the volunteers that have signed up for committees. We need all the help we can get. If you are a new member and are not familiar with our car show, it is the only charity event that we hold every year. All proceeds from our show will be divided between 2 charities: Veterans Welcome Home and Resource Center in Little River and All 4 Paws Animal shelter in Pawleys Island. The last several years we have raised between $23,000 and $25,000 for our charities. We are recognized on the news, on the radio and on TV. This car show is run by teams of members throughout our club. I cannot do this on my own. We all give 100% effort to make this work. It’s all voluntary and we’re always looking for more help. There are committees that still need help, like Parking and Judging. The participants come from all over the country. We have been told that we are the largest All Corvette Car Show in the Southeast. We’ve had 300 Corvettes at the last 3 year's car shows and hope to do it again this year. We have fun and it’s rewarding at the end to see the accomplishments. Our Friday night BASH is always fun. It’s a meet and greet where you get to talk to other Corvette enthusiasts from other parts of the country. You may run into old friends from somewhere else you didn’t know were coming! The last several years we sat over 250 people for dinner. Come along and join in the fun. You won’t regret it! Hors D’oeuvres begin at 5:30, as does the band and cash bar. Dinner at 7:00 and dancing throughout the night. Chinese auction baskets and a basket of cheer are raffled as well. (Continued on next page)

As you have seen, all trophies have been sold. I’m working with the trophy company to get them ordered and ready for pickup in plenty of time. I will have the blue Event Staff Shirts at the May meeting so if you are on a committee, please be prepared to pick up your shirt at that meeting. You can email me or call me with your size. If you turned in your shirt from last year, I have it. I would also like to have a meeting at 4:00 pm before our May meeting with the chair people. All chair people of committees please let me know if you will be attending. I just want to go over updates on where you are with your committee and what time your team will be at the show. Gwenn McDaniel will be getting out the wristbands and registration packets to those that have pre-registered so far. You can expect to receive these in about a week.

As we get ready for our Car Show, activities continue at the National Corvette Museum, including the BASH in April. Enclosed are various items and I encourage all members to join the Museum. The 2017 Winner’s Circle has been announced and I am pleased to announce that our Club is a member. Also a special thanks goes to Charlie and Debbie Meade as Foundation members of the Spire Society and supporters of the Museum. Congratulations. Please send me an email, or let me know at the next

meeting, if anyone has made a donation, purchased a raffle ticket or joined the Museum. This all helps to provide support from our club and to ensure continued services from your representative and the Museum.

Corvette to Pace the Indy 500 The 2019 Corvette ZR1 is the official Pace Car for the 2018 Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil and will lead drivers to the green flag on Sunday, May 27, for the 102nd running of the legendary race. It marks the 15th time a Corvette has served as the official Pace Car since 1978, and the 29th time a Chevrolet has led the field dating back to 1948, when a 1948 Fleetmaster Six convertible paced the race. No other vehicle has served as the Pace Car more than the Corvette.
