Bus Safety

At Monday morning’s assembly this week I spoke to all students about the importance of being a safe bus traveller. Just last week the media reported a terrible accident in the north of the state whereby a male student was struck by a car whilst cross-ing the road after getting off his school bus. Whilst we have a considerable number of students who travel to and from school by bus each day, every student travels by bus from time to time such as during camps or excursions. We urge all families to regularly remind their children about bus safety. At Assembly we talked about the following- remaining well back from an ar-riving bus and waiting till it completely stops before approaching the bus, after getting off a bus always wait until it is well gone and you have a clear view both ways before crossing a road and ensure you remain seated whilst travelling on a bus and do not distract the driver. The other important thing to remind bus travellers about is to report any issues or concerns they have when travelling on a bus. Tell their teacher when they get to school and tell mum and dad when they get home.

Best wishes to the Walz family.

Best wishes to Dave and Annabel Walz on the safe arrival of their baby son, Harry Benjamin, who was born last Sunday at 10:40 pm weighing a healthy 6 pound 9 ounces.

Mum and bub are both doing well. Dave will be on paternity leave for the remainder of this week and next week.

Have a great week and see you at the Bazaar,

Neil Sproal

Bazaar 2015

The final preparations are taking place for this year’s school bazaar on Saturday from 9 am to 1pm at Railway place. A great deal of planning and preparation has taken place to make the bazaar a success. We look forward to a terrific day and wish our organisers all the best.

Teacher Placements for 2016

Below is the list of classroom teachers and their classes for next year. At this point in time not all specialist and support staff have been finalised. This will occur once the Education Department has appointed the Acting Principal to replace Mr Chapman for Term 1. In 2016 the school will welcome a new teacher in Sarah Dorney to Port Fairy Consolidated. We anticipate Sarah will visit the school over the next week to meet her class and to get to know the staff. Anna, our LOTE –Chinese teacher, has accept-ed a position at another school for 2016 and will not be continuing with us.

Emily Clarke: Prep /1, Dave Walz: Prep/1, Debbie Dowell: Year 1/2, Karen Argent: Year 1/2, Cynthia McLaren: Year 3/4, Matt Hoey: Year 3/4, Sarah Dorney: Year 3/4, Dean Dwyer: Year 5/6, Kirsty Marwood: Year 5/6, Scott Twycross: Year 5/6

The week ahead.

Next week is the final full week of classes at school and it is a very busy week. On Wednesday we will be having our school Swimming Sports as a conclusion to this term’s swimming program at the Aquatic Centre. Then the House Sports are being held at Southcombe Park on Friday. See below for full details.

Swimming Sports

The Prep to Year 2 swimming sports will be held from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. The Year 3-6 swimming sports will follow from 1 pm to 2:30 pm. All families are welcome to attend. A very big thank you to Roz Langley for liaising with the Aquatic Centre and coordinating the swimming sports.

Information about the swimming sports:

This is the conclusion to this term’s swimming program. This is the only day for swimming next week.

Children in Prep to Year 2 are asked to come to school already in their bathers with their uniform over them. Year 3 to 6 children will get changed at school before walking to the pool.

Children who have not participated in swimming will go along and be part of the cheer squad for each house.

Children are asked to bring along two towels as they may be getting in and out of the water on several occasions.

Please do not allow children to wear face paint or hair spray as it will affect the pool water. No streamers will be allowed for the same reason. House signs and balloons will be allowed.

Children should wear a t-shirt with their house colour.

If any parents are about to assist on the day, please contact Roz via the school Facebook page.

House Sports

On Friday next week (11th December) we will be holding the school’s House Sports at Southcombe Park from 9:30 am to 11:30 am. Children are requested to wear their House Colours. Family members are invited to attend.

Year 6 students

Our Year 6 students are fast approaching their final days of primary school. We will be celebrating their graduation on Tuesday 15th December with a luncheon in the hall followed by the graduation ceremony in the evening. We wish all grade 6 students a wonderful finish to their time at Port Fairy Consolidated School. On the recent Review Day conducted by the Education Depart-ment a group of Year 6 leaders were invited to meet with the Review panel and share their thoughts on what it is like to be a student at PFCS. The panel was most impressed with the positive thoughts of the students who all reflected on how well they feel their teaches have prepared them for the next stage of their school life.

Congratulations

to this weeks’

Preps

A big CONGRATULATIONS to Mr Walz, Annabel, Andy and Jack on the arrival

of their new son and brother Harry Benjamin, born on 29th November. There has been much excitement in the Prep room this week with the arrival of Mr Walz’s new baby and with December arriving. We have started some Christmas themed activities, included stories, making and writing. In Numeracy we have been learning about Sym-metry and this week we have made symmetrical robots. In Reading we have been continue to focus on punctuation.

1/2’s

Camp was incredible! We had a great time and the weather allowed us to participate in all of our planned activities (just). We would like to thank all of the guardians and staff who were involved with both the sleepover and dinner. Also a big thank you to Ramellas, The Hub, Rebecca's Café, The Whalebone Gallery, Port Fairy Library, Southcombe Caravan Park, East Beach Take Away and Port Fairy Boat Char-ters. We are looking forward to the last formal swimming lesson Thursday and pre-paring for our swimming sports next Wednesday. In class we are having fun in Writing, Reading and Numeracy with a Christmas theme!

3/4’s

The 3/4’s are still running hard in Runners/Walkers. Tuesday morning we had the chance to listen to the Bentleigh Secondary College Band. It was interesting to identi-fy the 3 different sorts of Jazz music played. Our Fictional Narratives are getting more descriptive each time we write one. It is amazing to discover, in Maths, that angles are absolutely everywhere! We had our last official swimming lesson this week with Swimming Sports next week.

4/5M

Time seems to be getting away from us and school still goes on. We are looking at literary elements in Reading which goes really well with our Fictional Narrative writing. We are learning about BODMAS in Maths and are going well with using brackets to make our equations make sense. Some of us have reached our 30km and 60km in runners walkers. We have drawn out our Kris Kringle recipients and look forward to presents starting to arrive. We are looking forward to Transition Day next Tuesday.

5/6’s

As the year draws closer to an end, things just seem to get busier in 5/6 world. Here are a number of upcoming events: Yr 6 Reflection walk tomorrow, State-wide transi-tion days (Year 6), whole school transition, successful chicken hatching, Year 5 Scrap booking display in office foyer area all next week, House swimming and House sports.

The Sungold Surf T Surf Fun Run/Walk is one of South West Victoria’s favourite sporting events,

with around 2000 runners participating annually in either the Sungold 10km run, GMHBA 6km

run,

Yes Optus 6km walk or CommBank 3km Lap of the Lake.

This year, the Surf T Surf is being held on Sunday, 10th January 2016, and PORT FAIRY CONSOLIDATED has entered

a team in the Primary School’s Challenge. The Primary School’s Challenge is a team event open to all local primary

schools to encourage students and their families to get active. The school that has the most participants as a % of

their total student population will win a $1000 cash grant towards the school sports program, so it is a great op-

portunity for us to raise some valuable funds! PFCS has won this event three years in a row, so let’s make 2016

number four!

In order to enter, head to www.surftosurf.org, go to the ‘Registration’ page and enter as a participant. When prompted, select ‘Yes’ to ‘Are you part of a team?’ and on the following screen, search for PORT FAIRY CONSOLI-DATED to join our school team. Sign up for any of the four events and you will be counted towards our team! Any-one can join our team, so encourage the whole family and your friends to come along, it’s a great day. We hope to see you on Sunday, 10th January at Lake Pertobe supporting PORT FAIRY CONSOLIDATED and the Sun-

gold Surf T Surf!

For any queries, please contact:

Brooke Green 0427797928- Let’s get running and walking together!
