Mystery of Human Brain By: Naufal Ilham Arrafi
Grade: 11 Einstein
Brain is the most important part of human body, and it is the most vital part. What
comes to your mind if you hear “brain”? The most general answers is tools for thinking.
But do you know that the answers are far beyond that.
What makes human different from animals is the brain. Scientist discovered that
human has the largest brain compared with animals. Many people would not realize
about this but there are so many functions of brain. In biology, we learn that there are 3
main parts of the brain. The largest part of brain, cerebrum memory solving. The
memory capacity that brain can hold is around 2.5 pentabytes (1 million gigabytes).
Cerebrum is also the part that play roles in emotional response.
The cerebellum is smaller than cerebrum. Cerebellum plays role in coordination
and balance. It controls motor function and it interprets information sent to the brain by
the eyes, ears and other sensory organs. As the information is passed to the brain, the
neuron process and transmit the information. Do you know how many neurons are there
in human brain? There are 1000 neurons.
Human organs will never stop working in human body. All the activities of human
organs such as heart, lungs, stomach, etc begins from brain. Generally, people think
that brain is used for thinking and memory. But do you know that the physical activity
such as respiration, blood pressure, reflexes and others is controlled by brain. It’s
controlled by brain stem that is connected with the spinal cord.
Brain is the most angelic and elegant body organs that God created to us. It is
very important to discover and understand the importance of body organs and parts.
There are no organs in human body that is not useful. Everything has it’s magic
especially brain. Human brain has 10 billion nerve cell that can absorb more than 11
million byte (approximately 11 million words). If we calculate it as the total memory of
human in the entire life, it reach 100 trillion byte (12,5 trillion words). That is something
amazing. Do you doubt which one is more sophisticated, human brain or computer?
The answer must be human brain. Human brain is much more sophisticated than
computer CPU.
There are many myth that says human only use 10 % of the brain. But I don’t
think that we only use 10 % of the human brain ability. In fact, human brain is still active
during sleep. That proves that human does not only use 10 % of the brain ability.
Although God has given us a beautiful brain and it’s sophisticated ability, but we still
need to use the brain effectively. But nowadays many people use the brain for the
things that is not important. Many people are being emotional or get angry easily
because they are not using their brain well. Basically, brain is used to handle human
emotion.
But there is always a solution to improve the quality of human brain. We need to try
something new. People who likes to try something new are the people who thinks
positive. As they think positive, they always have curiosity to see the world. That is why
scientist like Newton, Einstein, Edison, Davinci, Avicenna, and others become very
successful because they never stop learning. Their memory are always trained very
well.
However, brain must be balanced with physical health of human body. We need to
eat healthy food or healthy drink everyday. Eating healthy must be balanced with
enough sleep. To be healthy, we need to sleep for 7-8 hours every day.
There are many magical things in human brain that we can discover. I hope by
understanding this article, we can maximize our brain to make our life better.
