SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL NEWS! The gospel predicts end times; our chal-lenge though is to live faithfully now. St. Vincent often asked this simple question: “What would Jesus Christ do, if he were in my place now? Ask yourself “What

would Jesus Christ do?” and then put your gift in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul blue envelope so that those who are suffering will be able to celebrate Thanksgiving.

THANKSGIVING BASKETS!! There is still time for you to help a neighbor have a Thanksgiving Din-ner for their family. The last day to bring items to the Food Pantry at Our Lady of Hope is Monday, November 18th from 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

We are still in need of turkeys. Other suggested items are: stuffing, gravy, canned vegetables, instant potatoes, sweet potatoes, rolls, cranberry sauce, canned fruit and powdered milk. Or let us do the shopping by giving grocery store gift cards or monetary gifts.

We thank you for your generosity!!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!! Our Society of St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry is in need of volunteers for the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of every month from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. We are reaching out to all men, women and high school stu-dents in need of service hours. If you can help, please call the parish office and leave your name and phone number.

We extend our sincere sympathy and prayers to the family & friends of the re-cently deceased— Mary Ann Runevitch May her soul and the souls of all the faith-

ful departed rest in peace.

SAINT MARY ANNIVERSARY MASS & DINNER On Saturday, December 7th, St. Mary Church will cele-brate the 50th Anniversary of their present church build-ing. Bishop Roger W. Gries will celebrate Mass at 4:00 p.m with an Anniversary dinner to follow at 5:30 p.m at Light of Hearts Villa. Tickets for the dinner are $25 each or $45 a couple. The menu includes roasted top round of beef, chicken marsala, penne pasta with mari-nara sauce, garlic roasted red skin potatoes, and green beans almondine. Dinner tickets can be purchased after weekend Mass or at either parish office during office hours. Less than 40 tickets left.

Dear Parishioners,

The month of November is dedicated to the Holy Souls in Purgatory. The Church commemorates all her faithful children who have departed from this life, but have not yet attained the joys of heaven. St. Paul warns us that we must not be ignorant concerning the dead, nor sorrowful, "even as others who have no hope ... For the Lord Himself shall come down from heaven ... and the dead who are in Christ shall rise.” This month, with Catholics throughout the world, we commemorate all the faithful departed - the beloved deceased members of our families, the victims of war, violence and genocide, those who have died of hunger, disease and neglect, the infants who have died in mis-carriages or who have been killed through exposure or abortion, the Christians who have died for the faith in persecution, the anonymous who rest in common graves, those forgotten by the world and whose names are known only by God. We especially entrust to the Lord those who have died over the past year whose names were read at Mass on All Souls Day. The Church remembers the faithful departed not just on November 2nd, but throughout the entire month of November in a special way. We began the month by celebrating the saints — those who are definitively in heaven, the canonized and un-canonized saints — and by invoking their intercession as we continue on our pilgrimage of faith in this world. What is the main pur-pose of praying for the dead? We pray for the dead because we know in faith three truths: first, contrary to the popular heresy that presumes that everyone who dies goes to a “better place,” the Catholic faith does not believe everyone who dies goes to heaven, espe-cially immediately; second, the dead may need our help; and third our prayers and sacrifices can in fact help them. There are many who do not live and die with purity of life and hence they need to be purified to enter into the kingdom in which God is all in all. This state in which the dead are decontaminated from all sin and worldliness has been traditionally called by the Church “Purgatory” from the Latin term purgare, which means “to cleanse”. As we continue to offer prayers for these souls, let us also pray for ourselves, for expectant faith and belief in the resurrection. This month of November we offer special prayers for the late Fr. Dan Begin and all our deceased parishioners of St. Mary and Our Lady of Hope who lived, worked, ate, celebrated the Eucharist, suffered, grieved, mourned and rejoiced with us. Let us spend a few mo-ments and pray for them during this month because we promised them before they died to remain in relation-ship with them.
