Health The school’s daily enhanced cleaning processes continue this term. The playground equipment remains cordoned off, at this time. Shared resources such as home readers will be cleaned before re-distribution to students. Returned library books will be quarantined and cleaned before being put back onto shelves for borrowing. The school has received the anticipated essential supplies from the Department. Thank you to parents and caregivers who reinforce the message of hand hygiene with your child at home. I seek your support in ensuring you maintain physical distancing from other adults, when dropping off or picking up your child and thank you for not lingering longer than is needed in the playground. Finally, please model a positive attitude towards your child’s return to school one day a week, as children take their cues from you!

Penguins Students will be taking their wooden penguin home on their 1 rostered day at school this week. Please read the instructions that are with the penguin. This is a K-2 art/environmental project which supports the restoration of Mawson’s Hut in Antarctica.

Bayside Council Bayside Council aims to improve road safety around schools and to remind parents and caregivers of the fines and demerit points for not obeying road rules. In the near future, you may see the following signs on our school fence.

Therefore, last week’s P&C meeting was via zoom. Thank you to Renee and Boyd who set up the meeting and Angela, the P&C President for chairing the meeting. P&C meetings are held twice a term and follow the usual format/agenda including the Principal’s report. The P&C minutes and a letter from the P&C are attached to the newsletter, see community announcements for further information. A list of community contacts for your information is attached, as requested.

From the school Office Refund/invoicesPlease find an invoice attached to the newsletter. Due to the flexible attendance of students last term, some families are in need of a refund for some of the Fundamental Movement Skills lessons, last term. Thank you to Mrs Maclean who will be providing a refund for those who have paid and deserve the refund.

We thank parents and caregivers for your support in these challenging times and we acknowledge the great work you have done at home! Walk Safely to School 2020 which was to be on 15 May, was postponed due to COVID-19 and the Learning from Home model. Notwithstanding, it is a timely reminder to walk safely to school on your rostered one day at school this week.

Please view the link to the Scholastic book catalogue https://scholastic.com.au/book-club/virtual-catalogue-1/ The means of ordering books remains the same. Closing date for orders is by Monday 18 May. Students will be given their orders when the student is at school, following the delivery of book orders to the school.

World Bee Day: Wednesday 20 May World Bee Day is celebrated on May 20 each year. The purpose of the international day is to acknowledge the role and importance of bees and other pollinators, for the ecosystem. Our native stingless bees must surely be pleased to have the usual sounds of children in the playground! I can assure you the bees are busy buzzing around doing their job, particularly in those warmer days we have had.

P&C Newsletter11 May 2020

At our meeting on Wednesday night the P&C discussed ways to help the BPIS community feel more connected to each other and the school. If any of these are of interest and you’d like to be involved, please email Angela on [email protected] or text 0488 009 619

If you have any other ideas please let us know. We also have a closed Facebook group that we’d love you to join – Bardwell Park Infants Parents & Citizens Group. https://www.facebook.com/groups/967301520105921/

Virtual playdates for parents and children: Virtual playdates with your child’s classmates. We will organise some small group Zoom or FB messenger catch ups. We could also run a parents only catch up (say 8.30 pm when the kids are hypothetically in bed asleep).

Chalk drawings outside your home: Many families are doing A LOT of walking at the moment. If you’d like to share your address details with other BPIS families, they could leave your children a chalk message when they’re walking past your house.

Book reading: We would look at setting up a weekly video chat where a parent volunteers to read a book. The children would get an opportunity to say hello to each and chat before and after.

Refunds for those who have already paid for Fundamental Movement Skills and did not attend all lessons due to COVID-19. Lesley has looked at invoices and how many sessions individual students did not attend. The school intends to refund for lessons missed. Information regarding this will go out on Monday, in the newsletter (week 3) on the school website. Hard copies of the school newsletter will go home with students on their rostered day. Digital technologies nbn network COVID-19 Education Relief Package: via school newsletter term 2 week 2. The nbn network is working with net providers to connect low income families with home schooling needs. As of 6 May, no further communication. Devices for Teachers project: BPIS is involved in this project. Seesaw was the chosen platform for this. Classroom teachers are happy with it. Project is to have an impact on student engagement and student learning outcomes. Seesaw: school is currently using a free version of this. Beauty of this platform is it feeds back to teachers and if teachers plan with outcomes in mind, they are assessing, able to give feedback which is known to be a very powerful tool. Teachers who wish school to look into buying access to seesaw. Seesaw for schools is for 100 students minimum, we have asked for a quote. Jo will survey community later in the term regarding their perceptions of seesaw. Departmental web conferencing/digital tools The DoE has a number of tools such as Adobe Connect, Microsoft 365 & MS Teams, Google suite for education (google hangout meets –vc), DoE zoom, Skype for business. Student portal K-2. Kindergarten have not had exposure to their student portal in term 1. iPads 2 at school – all school ipads are working. Jo is putting seesaw class app on ipads. AppleCachi~.pdf

Looking to the future…. To move the school to the supported MDM (Mobile Device Management) solution Jamf the school will need to have the following.

● Apple Caching Server – As discussed this will assist with app deployment. At present the school does not have one. As of 5 May the caching server

● Apple School Manager enrolment – As you already have a VPP enrolment we may be able to migrate it if it qualifies

● Devices – The school may have to purchase new devices for iPads that cannot run iOS 12 or higher. All new iPads come bundled with a Jamf licence - iPad 32Gb

If the existing VPP account cannot be migrated a new enrolment will need to be created. As of 5 May, the DoE are working with Apple on a solution to this. Asset Management issue PWA Public Works Advisory: door lock upgrade works was conducted by PWA. New locks for B. Block. Photocopier is out of warranty in October 2020 Jo met with company representative on Monday 23 March at 10am re new photocopier. School will pay for the new photocopier, around $6,000. Share Our Space: did not go ahead in the April school holidays, due to COVID-19. Roof and gutters were cleaned in term 1. Level 1 Water restrictions exemption permit approved: effective 28 April 2020, valid during Level 1 water restrictions As discussed, Jo has some links to go in the newsletter for parents re support services and phone numbers. The school wishes to thank all our families and we acknowledge how challenging it is in the current climate. You are all doing great things at home with your children! Thank you!

4. President’s Update Typically, at this meeting we would have been discussing the school disco event and the Mother’s Day stall. Unfortunately, both events were unable to proceed due to COVID-19. Events for the rest of the year are on hold, until we have more information about what social distancing measures will be in place. Students have been learning from home and staff at BPIS have worked hard to provide us with teaching resources. As parents we really appreciate the support that we’ve received and the communication about how children will gradually return to full time attendance. Everyone has found aspects of home learning challenging, particularly with uncertain end dates and the initial novelty of being at home more often wearing off. Many families will also be struggling with financial and mental health issues. With this in mind the P&C are keen to look at ways to support children and their families to feel connected. This is a key discussion item for our meeting tonight.

Angela Hume.

5. Treasurers’ Update ● Total cash on hand $ 21,928.46 ● ACNC charity register update for 2019 year is
