PRINCIPAL’S PERSPECTIVES R U OK Day is on Thursday 13th September R U OK? Day is our national day of action dedicated to reminding everyone that any day is the day to ask, “Are you ok?” and support those struggling with life. Taking part can be as simple as learning R U OK?’s four steps so you can have a conversation that could change a life.

By following the four steps below, you’ve got what it takes to have a conversation that could change a life.

1 Ask- When they’re in a quiet comfortable space that’s ideal for them

2 Listen Let them talk without interruption and listen with an open mind 3 Encourage action - Suggest they talk to someone who can provide further support; like their GP, manager or

teacher 4 Check in - Check in with them again soon to see how they are going.

Balranald Central School will be having Footy Colours Day on Tuesday 18th September Fight Cancer Foundation’s Footy Colours Day is a national fundraising campaign held during the month of September to support kids living with cancer. Schools, workplaces, groups and clubs across Australia are encouraged to wear their favourite footy team’s colours and host an event to raise much-needed funds. Every dollar raised supports Fight Cancer Foundation’s education programs to help kids with cancer continue with their education during treatment and recovery. SASS Recognition Week Last week we celebrated SAS Recognition Week. SAS staff include Administrative Managers, Administrative Officers, School Learning Support Officers, Aboriginal Education Officer, Chaplain’s and General Assistants. SAS staff are the backbone of the great work being done. Our SAS staff play an important role in the school community. They are often the first people you see when you enter a school and are essential to maintaining positive relationships with students, parents and the community. SAS staff work in school offices, in classrooms and libraries and maintaining and caring for school grounds and buildings. They are often the ones to tend to students when they unwell and they ensure the efficient management of school financial and administration functions. As the School Principal, I am aware of the valuable work SAS Staff do every day of the school year. Recognition week is an opportunity for us, and the school community, to show our appreciation to these dedicated staff members who play such an important part in ensuring the smooth running of our school.

NSW CENTRAL SCHOOLS STATE TITLE’S Big congratulations to our Open and U16 girl’s netball teams for winning the NSW Central Schools State title in Dubbo. This is a huge achievement. Well done to all the girls involved it is an amazing effort and our school is very, very proud. Thank you to Mrs Alison Linnett and Mrs Lisa Joliffe for their time and coaching. The championship shield and trophy will be updated and displayed in our foyer. This is the fourth consecutive year that our U16 Netball team has won the title. Unreal! Our Year 11 students are currently completing their preliminary course requirements in preparation for the HSC year, which starts for them in Term 4 while our Year 12 students get increasingly closer to their final days at school. All the school-based assessments have been done and all that remains is the critical preparations for HSC examinations. It is always vital that students take the time to look at past papers and review HSC course work to provide the confidence and incentive needed to perform their very best. During our Year 12 Celebration Assembly on Thursday the 27th September, our future school leaders will be presenting their leadership ambitions. All students who put themselves forward are forming part of their ongoing leadership journey and are doing themselves and the school proud. I look forward to hearing their presentations and good luck to all involved. We have reached the final stage of our Year 11 Stage 6 curriculum subject offerings and our students have made their course selections. We are offering a huge range of senior courses that are fully supported with technology, quality curriculum time and quality teachers. The senior curriculum is complimented with a Senior Study Zone that is exclusive for Stage 6 students.

NETBALL REPORT You may remember back in May I had the privilege of taking a group of girls from Year 7 to Year 12 off to Leeton to compete in the Under 16's and Open's Southern Central Schools Netball Competition AND both of these teams completed their respective games undefeated! Well - we have just returned from competing in the State Under 16's and Open's Central Schools Netball Competition AND these amazing young ladies were once again undefeated in not one but both competitions! This is an exciting achievement for Balranald Central School. Our Under 16's team have been the State winners for 4 years in a row! Our Opens team were state winners in 2016, came second in 2017 and were once again winners in 2018! However, the most amazing thing that I see when away with these young ladies is their respect for everyone, sportsmanship and team comradeship. They truly are great ambassadors for not only our school, but also our community and their parents. Take a bow girls and pat yourselves on the back! Now in stating that we were undefeated, does not mean that the girls had easy games of netball, for instance in one game it took over 3 1/2 minutes for either team to score a goal! The ball just went from one end to the other and back again! The defence were super in gaining back the ball! We witnessed some nail biting moments where at half time the scores were even or we were behind by a goal or two, but with the wise words from Coach Lisa, the girls got their minds on the job and would work methodically to gain victories! On behalf of the girls - Charlie, Maggie, Daytona, Kasey, Molly, Christina, Lauren, Macy, Bonnie, Hannah, Isabella, Faith, Abby, Sophie, Kiandra - and myself, THANKYOU to Balranald Central School P&C and Balranald Shire for their kind donations. THANKYOU to our support crew who travelled to Dubbo - Lisa, Kim, Donna, Connie, Nat, Dee, Lisa, Leah and Grace - you all have your roles and we would be lost without your support. Thanks to everyone who has helped us achieve these titles in anyway, it truly has been a team effort.
