The Pack meet- ing for November w ill be held Tuesday evening, Nov. 30, at 7:30 at the Phoenicia elemen- tary school. Boy Scouts of Troop 60 real- ized a total of $203.20 at their pancake supper Nov. 20. Lori Ann and Richard Mur- phy, Mrs. Margaret Butcher and daughters, Kathleen and Maureen, and Mrs. Jane Stai- ger and sons, Christopher and Paul, attended a birthday party for Scott Stettine at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Stettine, in Shandaken Sunday afternoon. Scott was two years old. Phoenicia school closes for the Thanksgiving holiday vaca- tion at the close of school Wed- nesday and w ill reopen Monday morning. Phoenicia Radios Will Advise Of School Closings Phoenicia, Nov. 25.—Watson Goodrich, assistant superintend- ent of Onteora central schools, advises that when school clos- ings in the Onteora central school district are necessary due to hazardous road condi- tions or adverse weather con- ditions, announcements w ill be made via radio stations WGHQ, WKNY, WBAZ, WGY and WELV commencing at 6:30 a. m. This announcement w ill refer to the Onteora central school district and w ill not mention any specific school within the district. If a school closing becomes necessary during the school day, the above mentioned radio stations w ill be notified imme- diately and would advise par- ents of the time that the stu- dent would be leaving school. Parents and students are re- quested not to call the radio stations or school administra- tive personnel to inquire about school closings. Thursday, November 25, 1971 Page Five Phoenicia Clinic Immunized Pupils Phoenicia, Nov. 25.—One hun- dred sixteen children were given immunization shots at the clinic sponsored Thursday at the Phoenicia elementary school. These included seven pre-school children and seven pupils from other neighborhood schools; the remainder were Phoenicia pupils. Immunization was provided against diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, rubella, meas- les and polio. Dr. Paul LePaige, Onteora school physician, directed the clinic, which was sponsored by the Ulster county health de- partment. The clinic was ar- ranged by Mrs. Marian Clarke, school nurse teacher, and Mrs. Joan Smith, public health nurse for the town of Shanda- ken attended. Mrs. Henry Bernstein, a member of the town of Shandaken public health nursing committee, aid- ed with the registration. Republicans Meet Phoenicia, Nov. 25. — The Town of Shandaken Republican club met last week Thursday evening at the town hall in Al- laben and began plans for the Lincoln Day dinner, which w ill be held Feb. 12. Deer Hunter Hurt W hile deer hunting Tuesday afternoon, Herbert Truesdell of Andes stepped on a large rusty nail which nearly went through his right foot. He was taken to Margaretville hospital, where he was a patent until Satur- day afternoon. He gets about on crutches. Lillian Wamsley and Doug- las Merwin spent Sunday eve- ning in Kingston and visited Mr. and Mrs. Lorn Keator and faim ly. Lanesville By Mrs. Herman Quick Lanesville, Nov. 25 Benjamin North was taken to the Benedictine hospital by ambulance Thursday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Doyle Jr. and fam ily of West Camp spent the weekend with his par- ents, M r. and Mrs. Gerald Doyle Sr. Mrs. Jennie Neal, former res- ident of this place, is a patient at the Benedictine hospital. Four of the new selectives are literature courses. “A Laugh a Minute,” which is a study of humor; “Possible Worlds of Science Fiction,” “A Man and a Woman,” “ Poe and Haw- thorne.” The other two courses are skill courses. “Phonetics,” and “Structure and Usage.” These six courses bring the total number of selectives being offered to 32. The 26 remain- ing are those that have been offered in the past and w ill be offered again this spring. The selective program, in iti- ated last year, brought such response from the student body that one-third requested more English than is required by the state. Many area schools have visited Onteora to observe the program in action, and Miss Miriam Smith has traveled on request to Roxbury and Wash- ingtonville to explain the pro- gram. giving. Following the meeting, the board mem^ bers surprised Rev. and Mrs. Ralph Darmstadt with cake and coffee to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary. Orville Smith spent Monday w ith his aunt, Mrs. Thomas Balcom, at Margaretville. That afternoon they were guests of Mrs. Sam Spector and children at Hubbell H ill. Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Smith and son spent Tuesday evening with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Balcom, and fam ily at Margaretville. Home movies were shown. Among the pic- tures was one of T. J. Edwin France of this village landing his aeroplane on Balcom’s private airstrip. Melvin Adams of Syracuse spent from Sunday until Tues- day w ith W illiam G. Cure and his parents. Mrs. L. Mrs. Muller was injured in a one-car accident at Big Indian on Oct. 18. One leg was broken, and she is still in traction. Phoenicia Clinic Im m unized Pupils

Phoenicia, Nov. 25.— One hun­dred sixteen children were given im m unization shots a t the c lin ic sponsored Thursday a t the Phoenicia elem entary school. These included seven pre-school children and seven pupils from other neighborhood schools; the rem ainder were Phoenicia pupils.

Im m unization was provided against diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, rubella , meas­les and polio.

D r. P aul LePaige, Onteora school physician, directed the clin ic, w hich was sponsored by the U lste r county health de­partm ent. The c lin ic was a r­ranged by M rs. M arian C larke, school nurse teacher, and M rs. Joan S m ith, public health nurse fo r the tow n of Shanda­ken attended. M rs. English CoursesPhoenicia, Nov. 25.—S ix new

semester English courses are being added th is spring to the 26 now being offered to s tu ­dents in grades 10-12 a t Onte­ora central school.

Four o f the new selectives are lite ra tu re courses. “ A Laugh a M inute,” which is a study o f hum or; “ Possible W orlds o f Science F ic tio n ,” “ A Man and a W oman,” “ Poe and H aw ­thorne.”

The other tw o courses are s k ill courses. “ Phonetics,” and “ S tructure and Usage.”

These six courses b ring the to ta l number o f selectives being offered to 32. The 26 rem ain­ing are those th a t have been offered in the past and w ill be offered again th is spring.

The selective program, in it i­ated last year, brought such response from the student body tha t one-th ird requested more English than is required by the state. Many area schools have visited Onteora to observe the program in action, and Miss M iriam Sm ith has traveled on request to R oxbury and W ash- ing tonville to explain the pro­gram.
