The charity golf tournament will be held again this year in conjunction with the annual meeting. Golfers will be treated to and challenged by the beautiful Legends course at Lionhead Golf & Country Club. More information will be available in mid-May on registrations.

The golf tournament is the most important event Squash Ontario runs to raise monies for junior squash in Ontario. It is the proceeds from the golf which help us provide travel and coaching subsidies to our Team Ontario/Canada Games squad members; provide honoraria to our regional coaches and managers who select and train teams for the Ontario Winter Games; provide financial subsidy for the Battle of the Borders – Team Ontario currently the holder of the coveted Battle Cup.

This year is a critical year for Squash Ontario and in particular for junior squash. The current economic environment coupled with the provincial government’s deficit has resulted in Squash Ontario’s base grant receiving a devastating cut of $34,000 over 2009-2010 and 2010-2011. We are committed to maintaining and in fact augmenting our programming services but it will be a challenge. New League and Tournament Software Programs

Over the years, many, many league players have petitioned Squash Ontario to find a means of including regional league results in the Ontario rankings. We were unable to identify software that would link to our database management system……until now!

The Board of Squash Ontario is pleased to announce that it has tendered, received proposals for and approved the purchase of additional modules for our data management system, one of which will allow leagues, even small city leagues such as London or Sudbury, Thunder Bay or Brockville, to be able to enter their results and have those results included in Ontario rankings.

To encourage leagues to opt into this program, we will be introducing a new annual membership category – League at a minimal cost. This will provide the league member with an Ontario ranking.

The software will be operational for this fall’s regional league schedule. If you are a participant in a regional or city league, please check with your league organizer to ensure that your league has opted into the program.

Squash Ontario will be providing further information on the league component in the coming weeks.

To respond to the needs of our member clubs and squash programmers, we will have available this summer an online sanction tournament package – one which would include a draw maker; username and password for host clubs to update draws in real time and linkage to the Ontario rankings. In addition, there will be a houseleague ladder component which clubs may access as well as an online booking system.
