CONDITIONS FOR CONSIDERATION OF APPLICATIONS FOR ACCREDITATION AND RE-
ACCREDITATION OF INSTITUTIONS AND PROGRAMMES
The National Accreditation Board (NAB) is becoming increasingly concerned about the attitude
of some institutions towards issues of accreditation and re-accreditation of the institutions
and/or programmes. Particular note is taken of the underlisted:
Refusal/failure to pay for and collect certificates of accreditation. letters notifying grant
of accreditation specifically indicate that accreditation does not take effect until
certificates are paid for and collected but this rider is largely ignored. - .
Applications are submitted for new programmes while accreditation for existing
programmes or the institution had expired.
Introduction and running of new programmes even before applications for accreditation
had been submitted.
Introduction and running of new programmes in public institutions without clearance
from the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE) and accreditation by NAB.
Failure to verify or validate admission qualifications of students. .
Failure to respond to Panel Assessment Reports within the stipulated time, thus
delaying the consideration process.
The foregoing contribute both to the delay in processing applications and flouting the
conditions for the grant of accreditation. They also do not augur well for the quality of delivery
of programmes in our tertiary institutions. Under the circumstances therefore, the Board is
compelled to adopt the following measures to bring some order into the system of
administering accreditation and quality assurance:
No applications for accreditation of new programmes from an exist ing institution shall
be considered until all certificates of accreditation have been paid for and collected.
No applications for accreditation of new programmes from an existing institution shall
be considered unless the institution and all its programmes are in good standing.
No applications for re-accreditation of an institution or its programmes shall be
considered if the payment for and collection of certificates of accreditation are still
outstanding.
