In the Know with Social Media!

Quick, Easy, Effective Ways to Stay Informed on Trends and Topics in Different Fields that Affect your

Work

Which social media platforms work for education leaders?

All of them – whichever works for you!

Just remember it’s called SOCIAL media for a reason – works best if you really interact.

But some people gain a lot just by lurking!

It’s great to talk to your closed circle of friends about how they handle special education...

But, wouldn’t you also like to open your circle and learn what top special education experts are saying this year?

Social media gives administrators quick access to:

What’s talked about in various education specialties that impact your work

New trends, policies, reports in different fields Top experts with brief blogs or comments What administrators are talking about in other areas of

the country Different perspectives on topics familiar to you.

So you can stay in touch with the best information in every aspect of your job!

Example: I wanted to learn more about new ideas and

resources in public libraries. I followed American Library Association’s

Association of Library Services for Children #ALSC on Twitter.

I met librarians on Twitter who invited me to present with them at the national ALA/ALSC conference.

I learned about blogs, awards, funding, initiatives, and made contacts for PLN.

My interview appeared in an ALA book.

Organizations to follow:

NAEYC – early childhood education NAESP – elementary school principals ASCD – administrators and supervisors NABE - bilingual educators TESOL – English as a second language ACTFL – teachers of foreign languages ILA – international literacy association DEC – early childhood special education ISTE – technology in education
