Colour!: Print by John Hoyland and Glass by Paul Stopler

Colour! brings together two artists of different generations. John Hoyland, one of the leading British painters of his generation, and Paul Stopler, one of the most exciting names in glass art today.

Hoyland’s paintings are abstracts but they are not

about absolutes. They are particular emotions, thoughts

and feelings dependent upon the act of looking.

Paul Stopler practices lost-wax kiln casting and uses the

craft of lathe-turning waxes to produce unique cast glass

vessels. This has led to the development of new cast pieces

that reproduce the complexityof the turned wax vessels.

A single translucent colour is chosen for its potential to

transmit changing hues and light accents; the deeper

the mass of glass, the more saturated the colour.

Trevor Price: New Print & Paintingand Jane Clift: Wire Sculptures

14 January - 25 February

Trevor’s new work will be shown alongside fantastic wire sculptures by Jane Clift incelebrating movement, grace and humour.

Trevor Price is one of our favourite artists.

He specialises in drypoints and etchings

that are handmade and hand printed in

his studios in London and St. Ives.

Trevor is the Vice President of the Royal

Society of Painter-Printmakers. He has

won several national printmaking awards,

and was Printmaker of the Year in 2011.

His work is held in various collections.

Jane Clift employs different types of

wire in her work, using the medium as

others would use a pencil to sketch her

sculptures. Jane loves to create birds

and small animals.

MAKER IN FOCUS: Craig Underhill

Craig’s paintings and ceramics evoke the feeling of landscapes that he has visited or travelled through. His work is influenced by the inconsequential visual effects that are created in landscapes by the repetitive and methodical actions of humankind.

Craig uses the surface of his slab built vessel forms like a canvas onto which he applies mark-making techniques, layers of engobe, slip and underglaze colours. Exploring ideas through drawing is an important part of his making process, which Craig tends to do before committing himself to the ceramic pieces.

David Mayne: The Sculptor

Over the past 30 years, David has developed his work from raw assemblage with found objects to the much more refined pieces he now creates. One thing has remained constant - the use of metal.

David has a lifelong passion with nature and landscape. He lives in Holmfirth near areas of stunning woodland

and wild and beautiful hills and moorland. The work he now creates is a response to this landscape and

other wilderness environments he has encountered.

Winner of Rising Stars 2016: One Year On - Emma Jane Rule

Her work is organic and tactile, reflecting the undulating

lines and rhythms found in the natural world. Additional

surface textures, patinas and burnishing complement

and enhance the forms and the metal’s natural lustre.

Emma-Jane’s designs include sculptural jewellery as well

as decorative and functional contemporary metalwork

for, unique items of luxury for everyday use and treasured

heirlooms for the future.

Using the technique of foldforming alongside more traditional metalworking practices such as hammer forming and hand raising, Emma-Jane explores the malleable and intriguing natures of silver and copper.
