INTRODUCTION TO INDUSTRY

Education in India is provided by the public sector as well as the private sector, with

control and funding coming from three levels: central, state, and local. Under various articles of

the Indian Constitution, free and compulsory education is provided as a fundamental right to

children between the ages of 6 and 14. The ratio of public schools to private schools in India is

7:5.

India has made progress in terms of increasing the education attendance rate and

expanding literacy to approximately three-quarters of the population in the 7–10 age groups, by

2011. India's improved education system is often cited as one of the main contributors to

its economic development. Much of the progress, especially in higher education and scientific

research, has been credited to various public institutions. While enrolment in higher

education has increased steadily over the past decade, reaching a Gross Enrolment Ratio of 24%

in 2013, there still remains a significant distance to catch up with tertiary education enrolment

levels of developed nations, a challenge that will be necessary to overcome in order to continue

to reap a demographic dividend from India's comparatively young population.

At the primary and secondary level, India has a large private school system complementing the

government run schools, with 29% of students receiving private education in the 6 to 14 age

group. Certain post-secondary technical schools are also private. The private education market in

India had a revenue of US$450 million in 2008, but is projected to be a US$40 billion market.

As per the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2012, 96.5% of all rural children between

the ages of 6-14 were enrolled in school. This is the fourth annual survey to report enrolment

above 96%. Another report from 2013 stated that there were 22.9 crore students enrolled in

different accredited urban and rural schools of India, from Class I to XII, representing an

increase of 23 lakh students over 2002 total enrolment, and a 19% increase in girl's enrolment.

While quantitatively India is inching closer to universal education, the quality of its education

has been questioned particularly in its government run school system. Some of the reasons for

the poor quality include absence of around 25% of teachers every day.States of India have

introduced tests and education assessment system to identify and improve such schools.

It is important to clarify that while there are private schools in India, they are highly regulated in

terms of what they can teach, in what form they can operate (must be a non-profit to run any

accredited educational institution) and all other aspects of operation. Hence, the differentiation of

government schools and private schools can be misguiding.

In India's education system, a significant number of seats are reserved underaffirmative

action policies for the historically disadvantaged Scheduled Castes and Scheduled

Tribes and Other Backward Classes. In universities, colleges, and similar institutions affiliated to

the federal government, there is a maximum 50% of reservations applicable to these

disadvantaged groups, at the state level it can vary. Maharashtra had 73% reservation in 2014,

which is the highest percentage of reservations in India.

From a simple numbers perspective, education is one of the largest industries in America today.

This shouldn't be surprising -- currently as many as one out of every four Americans attends

some educational program, be it kindergarten, college or mid-career training. To cater to this

spectacular demand, the industry employs millions of people in teaching, counseling,

administration, and many other roles.

The teaching profession is the face of an education industry that fundamentally furthers the

common good of society. Education is the key for social advancement -- for breaking cycles of

poverty, creating prosperity, promoting peace, and many other things that give hope and meaning

to our experiences as individuals and members of society.  At the end of the day, it all starts with

a textbook and a teacher you love.

At the same time, teaching is sometimes perceived as an occupation lacking much glamour or

reward. Sometimes it is disparaged as a career for the unambitious.  Nothing could be further

from the truth, and yet there are drawbacks to pursuing a profession in which the investment of a

teacher's time and energy often far exceed the compensation he or she receives. In some

positions, teachers feel lucky to reach just a handful of students each year -- and the personal

rewards of igniting a young mind have to be enough to sustain a teacher in the face of poor pay,

budget cuts, disciplinary issues, and unsympathetic administrators.

Still, some say that for performative types, teaching is second only to acting -- you're always on

center-stage.  Unlike other industries, in which it's very difficult to get a foot in the door, all you

need to do to set yourself on this promising path is to seek out a college education and teaching

certification. There are plenty of jobs to go around.  Retiring baby-boomers are creating many

vacancies, and the growth of new types of institutions such as charter schools is creating

additional opportunities for aspiring teachers.

While teaching is the most common career path in education, it's really just the tip of the

iceberg. The industry closely reflects the economy at large, constantly keeping pace with new

skills and knowledge needed by growing sectors.  People with an interest in education are in high

demand to consult for educational institutions, to create, develop and market educational

products and services, and to invest in new educational ventures.  Want to test your creativity,

India holds an important place in the global education industry. The country has more than 1.4

million schools with over 227 million students enrolled and more than 36,000 higher education

institutes. India has one of the largest higher education systems in the world. However, there is

still a lot of potential for further development in the education system.

India has become the second largest market for e-learning after the US. The sector is currently

pegged at US$ 2-3 billion, and is expected to touch US$ 40 billion by 2017. The distance

education market in India is expected to grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of

around 34 percent during 2013-14 to 2017-18. Moreover, the aim of the government to raise its

current gross enrolment ratio to 30 per cent by 2020 will also boost the growth of the distance

education in India.

Unorganized Coaching (Tutions):

It is also known as home tutoring.In-home tutoring is a form of tutoring that occurs in the home.

Tutoring is receiving guidance or instruction by a tutor. Most often the tutoring relates to an

academic subject or test preparation. This is in contrast to tutoring centers or tutoring provided

through after-school programs. The service most often involves one-on-one attention provided to

the pupil; otherwise, is called small group tuition, in which the tutor and a small number of

pupils gather at one of their homes for tutoring.

Benefits:

In home tutoring, services dispatch a qualified tutor directly to the client with no need to drive or

go anywhere. Children get an individualized program. Not a predetermined one that all children

of that age use, but one that is specifically designed for the child's unique needs. A tutor can

address any special needs and work to ensure that the pupil is getting help in those areas that

need the most attention.

Due to the class size, a pupil may keep his doubt within himself to avoid any embarrassment in

front of his classmates. Hence, a pupil would be more open towards his tutor than his school

teacher. In home-based tutoring, we do not need to drive or go anywhere. A tutor can address

any special needs and work to ensure that the pupil is getting help in those areas that need the

most attention. You can also set your goals and objectives, it improves oral capacity to recite in

class, develops capacity to think more with reasonable thoughts, and motivates myself when

taking the exams.

Criticism:

With the large variety of tutoring companies, a prospective client should be careful when

choosing a company. Some companies use substandard tutors and with little regard to the actual

achievement of the pupil.

One way to ensure that the student receives the proper training is to get tutored by professionals

or students who have gone through the material thoroughly and know what they are doing.

Tutoring Agencies:

Tutoring agencies are commercial organisations, specializing in introducing tutors to students

requiring help in academic studies. Tutoring agencies exist largely due to the problems parents

and students face in finding a specialist who can help them with the study of one or more specific

subjects.

Some agencies contract directly with the client (usually parents) to provide service. The point of

contact is between the client and the agency. Tutoring agencies may charge tutors a commission

fee for assigning jobs to them. In India, Malaysia and Singapore, this fee would typically be a

half of the allocated job's monthly revenue to a tutor.

Jobs that are assigned for a short duration, for example in the case of last minute revision for an

exam, may carry a lesser fee of around a quarter of the job's monthly revenue to a tutor. Some

tutoring agencies do not charge commission fees for jobs assigned to tutors or students.

Tutors:

There are both full-time and part-time tutors. Part-time tutors may be students who want to earn

extra money while they are still going to school, such as undergraduates of universities.A private

tutor is a private instructor who teaches a specific subject or skill to an individual student or

small group of students. Such attention ideally allows the student to improve knowledge or skills

more rapidly than in a classroom setting.

Tutors are often privately hired and paid by the student, the student's family or an agency. Some

are used for remedial students or others needing special attention; some provide more advanced

material for exceptionally capable and highly motivated students, or in the context of

homeschooling. Tutoring can also occur when one adult helps another adult student to study a

specific course or subject that he/she is taking to get a better result.

Tutors may be self-employed. If the agency does not employ the tutors, then the agency is

remunerated by the tutor, who adds a fee to the amount that the client is charged each lesson, and

then passes the fees back to the agency weekly or monthly as required.

In Singapore, although tutor registration is generally free of charge, tutors will have to pay a

percentage of his or her first month's tuition fee, usually 60% to the tuition agency as

commission for referring them to students. Tutors will subsequently be paid the full month's

tuition fees by the customer (the parents), according to the pre-arranged agreement.

Student-to-student tutoring:

Sometimes, current students act as tutors to other students. Sometimes, a classroom setting is not

enough for a student to learn all of the material that they need to know in order to pass the test or

to go on to harder classes.

Online tutoring is the process of tutoring in an online, virtual environment or networked

environment in which teachers and learners are separated by time and space. Online tutoring, as

a reflection of the diversity of the wider Internet, is practiced using many different approaches

and is addressed to distinct sets of users.

The distinctions are in online content and interface, as well as in tutoring and tutor-training

methodologies. Definitions associated with online tutoring vary widely, reflecting the ongoing

evolution of the technology, the refinement and variation in online learning methodology, and

OWNERSHIP

Ownership of property may be private, collective, or common, and the property may be

of objects, land/real estate or intellectual property. Determining ownership in law involves

determining who has certain rights and duties over the property. These rights and duties,

sometimes called a "bundle of rights", can be separated and held by different parties.

The process and mechanics of ownership are fairly complex: one can gain, transfer, and

lose ownership of property in a number of ways. To acquire property one can purchase it with

money, trade it for other property, win it in a bet, receive it as a gift, inherit it, find it, receive it

as damages, earn it by doing work or performing services, make it, or homestead it. One can

transfer or lose ownership of property by selling it for money, exchanging it for other property,

giving it as a gift, misplacing it, or having it stripped from one's ownership through legal means

TYPES OF OWNERSHIP

1. Sole Proprietorship

A business owned and operated by a single individual and the most common form of

business structure in the U.S. The advantages with a sole proprietorship include ease and

cost of formation simply announcing you are in business and requesting any licenses and

permits you may need; use of profits since all profits from the business belong exclusively to

you, the owner; flexibility and control you make all the decisions and direct the entire

business operations; very little government regulations; secrecy; and ease of ending the

business. There are disadvantages, however, including unlimited liability all business debts

are personal debts, meaning you could lose everything you own if the business fails or loses

a major lawsuit; limited sources of financing based on your creditworthiness; limited skills

the sole proprietor really must be a “jack-of-all-trades,” part manager, marketer, accountant,

etc.; and limited lifespan the business ends when the owner dies.

2. Partnership

A business that is owned and operated by two or more people and the least used form

of business organization in the U.S. There are two basics forms of partnerships, general and

partnership, at least one partner has liability limited only to his or her investment while at

least one other partner has full liability. Most states require a legal document called the

“Articles of Partnership” that delineates details about each partner’s investment and role in

3. Joint Hindu Family

The Joint Hindu Family Firm is the next non-corporate, group ownership form of

family business operative in India. It is governed by the Hindu Law. In the Hindu Law, there

are two schools: (i) Dayabhaga, which is applicable in Bengal and Assam; and (ii)

Mitakshara, which is applicable in the rest of India.The origin of the Joint Hindu Family

firm is to be found in the principles of inheritance under the second school i.e., Mitakshara

school of Hindu Law. Under this school, the property of a Joint Hindu Family is inherited by

a Hindu from his father, grandfather, and great grandfather is called ancestral property.Thus,

three successive generations in the male line (son, grandson, and great grandson) can

simultaneously inherit the ancestral property. This interest in inheritance is called

coparcenary interest and the members of the Joint Hindu Family. Hindu Undivided family

(HUF) Firm are called coparceners and the senior most as karta. In this group of

coparceners, however, the female members of the Joint Hindu Family are not included.It

should be carefully noted here that with the operation of the Hindu Succession Act, 1956,

the female relative of a deceased coparcener is eligible to receive only some share out of the

coparcenary interests of such a Coparcener.

4. Private Corporation

A business that is a legal entity created by the state whose assets and liabilities are

separate from its owners. While there are also public corporations who stock (and

ownership) are traded on a public stock exchange most small businesses are (or at least start

as) private corporations. A private corporation is owned by a small group of people who are

typically involved in managing the business. Forming a corporation requires developing a

legal document called the “Articles of Incorporation” and submitting them to the state in

which the corporation wishes to reside. Advantages of a corporation include limited liability

an owner (stockholder) can only lose up to the amount s/he invested; unlimited lifespan a

corporation is charted to last forever unless its articles of incorporation state otherwise; great

sources of funding; and ease of transfer of ownership. Disadvantages include double

Two other types of ownership of interest to entrepreneurs include:

S Corporation:

A form of ownership that is the best of both partnerships and corporations. Owners

all profits pass directly to the owners and the corporation pays no taxes. There are, however,

restrictions on the number and type of shareholders.

Limited Liability Company (LLC):

A form of ownership growing in popularity in the U.S. that provides limited liability

and is taxed as a partnership or sole proprietorship (depending on the number of members).

This type of business formation formed by submitting articles of organization to the state in

which the company resides is growing rapidly because it is flexible, simple to run, and does

not require all the paperwork of corporations.

STRUCTURE OF THE ORGANISATION

Structure of the organisation refers to how the workers within a business are organised

and how they relate to each other.

Types of Organisational Structures

1. Line Organisational Structure:

A line organisation has only direct, vertical relationships between different levels in the

firm. There are only line departments-departments directly involved in accomplishing the

primary goal of the organisation. For example, in a typical firm, line departments include

production and marketing. In a line organisation authority follows the chain of command.

2. Functional Structure

Functional structure is set up so that each portion of the organization is grouped

according to its purpose.

In this type of organization, for example, there may be a marketing department, a sales

department and a production department. The functional structure works very well for small

businesses in which each department can rely on the talent and knowledge of its workers and

support itself. However, one of the drawbacks to a functional structure is that the coordination

and communication between departments can be restricted by the organizational boundaries of

having the various departments working separately.

3. Divisional Structure

Divisional structure typically is used in larger companies that operate in a wide

geographic area or that have separate smaller organizations within the umbrella group to cover

different types of products or market areas. For example, the now-defunct Tecumseh Products

Company was organized divisionally--with a small engine division, a compressor division, a

parts division and divisions for each geographic area to handle specific needs. The benefit of this

structure is that needs can be met more rapidly and more specifically; however, communication

is inhibited because employees in different divisions are not working together. Divisional

structure is costly because of its size and scope. Small businesses can use a divisional structure

on a smaller scale, having different offices in different parts of the city, for example, or assigning

different sales teams to handle different geographic areas.

4. Matrix

The fourth main type of organizational structure, called the matrix structure, is a hybrid

of divisional and functional structure.

Typically used in large multinational companies, the matrix structure allows for the benefits of

functional and divisional structures to exist in one organization. This can create power struggles

because most areas of the company will have a dual management--a functional manager and a

product or divisional manager working at the same level and covering some of the same

managerial territory.

5. Flatarchy

While large businesses have traditionally followed tall structure, it’s becoming

increasingly common to see flatarchies in smaller businesses and new startups. “Unlike the

traditional hierarchy which typically sees one-way communication and everyone at the top with

all the information and power, a ‘flatter’ structure seeks to open up the lines of communication

and collaboration while removing layers within the organization,” writes author Jacob Morgan.

This flatarchy structure essentially removes unnecessary levels and spreads power across

multiple positions. This leads to better decision-making, but can also be confusing and

cumbersome when everyone doesn’t agree. In other words, it comes with pros and cons just like

the other structures.

The Informal Organisation:

An informal organisation is the set of evolving relationships and patterns of human

interaction within an organisation which are not officially presented. Alongside the formal

organisation, an informal organisation structure exists which consists of informal relationships

created not by officially designated managers but by organisational members at every level.

Since managers cannot avoid these informal relationships, they must be trained to cope with it

The informal organisation has the following characteristics:

Its members are joined together to satisfy their personal needs (needs for affiliation, friendship

WORK CULTURE

Work culture is a topic that many of us are familiar with, mostly because we work and

we more often than not do this with other people. The type of organization, the staff, the

principles, policies and values of the work place all make organizational culture what it is. So

what type of work culture do you work in? What type works better than others? There is a large

variety of organizational cultures that materialize in different environments; some occur au

natural and some are implemented by the higher-ups in the company. Workplace ethos silently

(and sometimes not-so-silently) guide employees on how to behave amongst each other, with

customers and with management.

Types of work culture

o Normative Culture

This is your everyday corporate workplace. Normative culture is very cut and dry, following

strict regulations and guidelines that uphold the policies of the organization. Employees rarely

deviate from their specific job role, break rules or do anything other than what is asked of them.

These type of organizations run a tight ship and are not suited for every type of employee. Know

anything about The Carrot, The Whip or The Plant? These are object-oriented approaches to

o Traditional Culture

This is the old-fashioned approach to the corporate environment. A traditional corporate culture

relies on clearly defined roles and relationships between workers. Typically, there is a clear chain

of command. Orders are given from the top and then implemented without much room for

deviation or disagreement. In these types of organizations, procedures are normally standardized

and strictly enforced. While this type of culture may sound unwelcoming or unreasonable, it does

have its place. For industries or companies that have well-established, tried-and-true methods for

conducting business, a traditional culture may actually be the most effective.

o High Skilled Culture

The name "highly skilled" for a business culture is not to say that other types of corporate cultures

do not have highly skilled teams. In organizations with a highly skilled culture, sometimes

referred to as a "baseball team" culture, what's prized and focused on is recruiting the top talent --

people who can get results that directly impact the bottom line. This is common in fields in which

high-risk operations are the norm, such as financial speculation. Normally, these companies are

doing whatever they can to stay ahead of the competition, and part of this is trying to lure big

industry names to their businesses. The nature of this type of corporate culture involves constant,

revolving-door type change and a high turnover rate.

o Innovative Culture

An innovative corporate culture in many ways is the opposite of a traditional one. In this situation,

creative initiative and deviation from standard procedure are encouraged among the workers. The

hope is that increased leeway, and the permission to take risks and to experiment, will result in

creative breakthroughs on the part of the staff. This type of atmosphere is inherently risky because

some experimentation will inevitably fail, and the absence of standard procedure could end up

wasting enormous amounts of time and resources. Firms that attempt this type of culture must

address the question of whether or not the risk gets paid for by the occasional breakthrough.

o Social Culture

A social corporate culture draws its strength from collaborative efforts, teamwork,and healthy,

trusting relationships among the staff. A social corporate culture often emphasizes taking care of

workers. This kind of philosophy holds that it's worthwhile to pay employees a bit more than

usual, to recognize and reward accomplishments, and to encourage participation from everyone.

This kind of company wants to nurture and develop loyal and skilled team members over time,

rather than booting anyone who seems under-qualified. Social businesses are often held together

by a sense of meaning, identity and pride that employees derive from their jobs.

The name says it all. Academy culture depends on employees who are highly skilled, studious

and welcome further training and advancement. This type of work place environment thrives off

about who they hire, their existing skill sets and their willingness to learn and grow. This format

of management keeps turn-over rates low and the employees eager to do their job to the best of

o Club Culture

Organizations following a club culture are very particular about the employees they recruit. The

1. Formal Communication:

Such a communication is that which is associated with the formal organisation structure

and the official status or the position of the communicator and the receiver. It travels

formalities because it is used on informal relationships between the parties, such as

The dress code of our organization was formals. From Monday to Thursday employees

have to be dressed Formals and on Friday casuals were allowed. Remaining two days of

the week i.e., Saturday and Sunday was holiday for interns.

conservative, and traditional, if a little more loose when it comes to color or pattern.

Entrance Examination Coaching

o GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) : GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering)

is an all India examination that gives you the winning edge in a highly competitive engineering

job market. The last few years have seen engineering job market lose its sheen, and most

graduates end up with jobs that are not up to their expectations.

This competitive exam, conducted jointly by IIT's and IISc, assesses the candidate's

understanding of the core engineering concepts and ability to apply the same in the real world. If

a student makes the necessary efforts to strive for the high scores, GATE can be his / her

gateway to an exciting future career.

o Indian Engineering Services (IES) : The Engineering Services Exam or IES 2015 is an entrance

exam to be taken by graduate engineers who want to work under the Government of India to

manage a large segment of public sector economy such as - Power, Telecommunications,

Railroads, Public works, etc.

The competitive examination is conducted by Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) for

recruitment to the Indian Engineering Services (IES). The examination consists of a written

examination followed by an interview or personality test.

o MHT-CET : The MHT-CET or Common Entrance Test is an annual entrance exam conducted by

the Government of Maharashtra. It is conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education. The

Degree courses of the following streams are mainly accounted for in this entrance exam:

Health Sciences

Pharmacy

Earlier the test scores were also used for admissions to engineering degree courses. The test is

conducted in offline mode, however online practice tests are also available

o NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) :The National Eligibility cum Entrance

Test or NEET-UG is a entrance examination in India, for students who wish to study any

graduate medical course (MBBS), dental course (BDS) or postgraduate course (MD / MS) in

government or private medical colleges in India. NEET-UG (Undergraduate), for MBBS and

BDS courses, will be conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

o JEE-Main : Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is an all India common engineering entrance

examination of objective pattern which is conducted for admission in various engineering

colleges and courses all over the country. It is regarded internationally as one of the most

challenging engineering admission tests.

JEE-Main exam is for admission to National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of

Information Technology (IIITs), and Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs). Only the

students selected in JEE Mains are eligible for appearing in JEE Advanced. Over 200,000

students are selected each year.

On that day I was called in the head office of Vijay Shekhar Academy which is in Mulund for an

interview.

In interview my HR (Sumita Sarkar) asked me to tell something about myself.

Then the next question was reason for selecting Vijay Shekhar Academy for internship.

And then after that she gave me a brief knowledge about the orgainisation.

At the end she appointed me as a marketing executive.

02 nd May 2016

On that day my HR told me about the academy and the management hierarchy and also

introduced me with the team members. She also told me about my job profile and working hours

in detail.

CONCLUSION

Vijay Shekhar Academy is an educational institute. It deals with nurturing young talents

and showing them right path so that they can achieve high standards in their life. Being directly

involved with marketing department I had a lot to learn and experience. Here our main job was

concept selling, dealing with which was more challenging; but all the staff members, my seniors

and all my colleagues were extremely helpful. Currently with 2 branches they are educating

junior college and engineering students. There future plan is to educate PG students as well and

open few more branches. I had a great time working with the institute. The main part that I

enjoyed the most was its working environment. It was full of discipline and enthusiasm.
