• psoriasis of the nails develops is not completely known but common
• Nail involvement appears to result from a combination of genetic (inherited), immunologic, and environmental factors
• severe nail involvement is more likely in the presence of arthritis
• people who have nail psoriasis also have skin symptoms,. If someone has psoriasis of the nails but does not have skin symptoms, the condition may be
difficult for a doctor to diagnose, since the signs of psoriasis of the nails
resemble those of fungal infection of the nails

• nail changes that may occur::
• 1- thimble pitting .. : discrete , well-circumscribed depression on nail surface when cells are lost from the nail's surface.(--best-known nail change )
• 2- onycholysis .. separation of the nail from the nail bed at free edge
• 3- subungual hyperkeratosis .. silvery white crusting under free edge of nail with some thickening of nail plate
• 4-oil spots .. yollowish-brown spots under the nail plate
• 5-Crumbling of the nail .. brittle and weaken because the underlying structures are not healthy..
• 6-Transverse lines and ridges are due to intermittent inflammation

• Pain and tenderness
• Functional disability
• Psychological distress
• Secondary bacterial infection (acute paronychia)
• fungal infection (chronic paronychia, onychomycosis)

• There is no effective topical treatment for psoriasis of the nails.
• The goal of treatment is to improve the function and appearance of psoriatic nails.
• If the nails have a fungal infection, a doctor will prescribe an antifungal medication
• What Is the Treatment for Nail Psoriasis? Treatments include:
topical medicines, such as creams applied directly to the nails
systemic medications, which affect the whole body
intralesional therapies, which involve a doctor injecting medication into the nail bed
