Project Background

• 1.2 million people in the Rift Valley region

around Nakuru lack access to safe, sufficient

water during the dry season

• Ground water is very high in fluoride so shallow wells are not an option

• The communities being served are very poor and live in the rural areas outside of Nakuru where there is no access to a municipal water supply

Project History

• Since 2001 Canadians have been working with the Rotary Club of Nakuru to provide funding for close to 5000 rainwater harvesting tanks bringing a lifetime supply of safe water to more than 30,000 people

• In 2010, the Rotary Club of Toronto Eglinton became the lead international Rotary Club with plans to build 500 tanks per year from 2011-2013
