Secondhand Smoke• A lit cigarette burns for about 12 minutes.• Environmental Secondhand Smoke: tobacco smoke that is inhaled

involuntarily or passively by someone who is not smoking.• Contains more chemicals such as: tar, nicotine carbon monoxide,

ammonia and benzene than the inhaled smoke by a smoker.• It is the most hazardous form of indoor air pollution.• It can cause lung cancer and increases the risk of developing heart

disease and respiratory problems.• Second-hand smoke increases the risk for ear infections, bronchitis,

and pneumonia.

Ways to Quit Using Tobacco Products• There are several different ways a person can quit using tobacco

products. But you should always consult with a doctor first, to make sure it is safe.

• A person can quit just “cold turkey”: This is when someone just decides to quit on their own. They use a lot of “substitutes”, such as gum, lollipops, sunflower seeds, etc. They also rely on their family and friends for support.

• A person can buy a product to help them quit: Nicotine patch, nicotine gum, “fake” cigarettes

• A person can go to a holistic doctor to get treatment.
