DBKU City Library was established in 1970 under the name "Kuching Municipal Council

Library" and acquired by the Kuching North City Hall in 1989. In 1990, the City Library

DBKU was governed entirely by the Kuching North City Hall. The opening ceremony on 21

May 1995 the City Library DBKU with a new look in terms of facilities and services. On July

8, 2013, the City Library DBKU has moved to a new location at Level 4 & 5, Majma' Tuanku

Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah (Kompleks Islam Sarawak) . Now DBKU City Library is the

first library in Sarawak located in shopping complex.

The total collections amounted to 161, 217 copies covering collection Bahasa Malaysia,

English and Chinese. These libraries provide a reading space for teens, adults and space

for children's. In addition, the collection of examination papers for UPSR, PMR and SPM

are available for students' reference. The entire library is also equipped with WiFi .

To ensure comfort while in the library, please follow the guidelines that have been set.

1. Bags exceeding size 297mm x 210mm x 100mm ( A4 ) is not allowed to be brought into

the library. Bags must be stored in lockers provided.

2. Make sure the phone is in silent mode while in the library. (use of mobile phones for

SMS, and internet access is allowed).

3. When talking on the cell phone, the user must use outside the library.

4. Do not sleep in the library so that the space can be used for library users that really

want to use the library.

5. No smudging and tore of the reading material.

6. Users are not permitted to bring food or drinks into the library.

7. Smoking, spitting, bring pets and committed incest in the library is prohibited.

8. The library will not be responsible for any loss of personal property brought into the

library .

MEMBERSHIP

Generally library can be visited without being a member. But to become a member, users

are able to borrow materials and use of multimedia equipment.

All Malaysian citizens are eligible to become members of the library with the following fee

:

CATEGORY REGISTRATION FEE ANNUAL FEE

Children (1 – 12 years) RM6.00 RM5.00

Teen (13 – 17 years) RM6.00 RM5.00

Adult (18 years and above) RM6.00 RM5.00

GUIDELINES: 1. Identity Card, MyKid or birth certificate are required during registration for verification

purposes.

2. The membership card is only valid for a period of one (1) year from the date of

registration.

3. The membership card is NOT transferable to another person.

BORROWING & RETURNING

BORROWING:

1. Library members are allowed to borrow maximum of 3 books concurrently for 14

days.

2. Inter-library loans are also available to members if books required are not available in

the City Library DBKU.

RENEWAL:

1. Library members may request for renewal of items borrowed by:

• Telephone (082-507099)

• e-mail (library@dbku.gov.my), with condition 1 or 2 days before the items due

date.

2. Renewal only allowed a total of two (2) times.

3. Books overdue; user must return books at the counter and pay overdue fine before

renewal can be done

RETURNING:

1. Returning can be done by coming directly to the counter or return library materials

through the "Book Drop" that operate 24/7 located at the entrance of the Sarawak

Islamic Complex building.

2. Books are returned after the expiry of the loan period will be charged a penalty of

RM0.10 per day for each book.

3. For books that are damaged or lost, members will be fined according to the formula

(Book price) + 50% of the book price = Total to be paid)
