Happy Thanksgiving to each and
everyone receiving this newsletter. We
appreciate our friends of Pilot, our
sponsors and our members as well as
those Pilot members in our Florida
District and International. Together, you
make up who we are and why we do
what we do. Enjoy the Fall weather as
we continue holiday events for a better
community as Pilots. We can Do More,
Care More and Be More.
“If your actions inspire others to dream
more, learn more, do more and become
more, you are a leader.” John Quicy Adams
Our 2015 Pilot Club of Naples
Ambassador was honored at the October
meeting. Paulette Dickerson has served
the membership for many years as
Treasurer and volunteered tirelessly
while holding a full time position at
Wynn’s Family Market. She is a wife,
mother and grandmother. We are proud
Paulette is a Pilot. Her work ethics and
commitment to Pilot in friendship and
service makes her a perfect Ambassador
for our club. We love Paulette.
October 28
th, members of the Pilot Club
of Naples visited Shadowlawn
Elementary School to present Brain
Minders, fit helmets and promote our
Play Safe, Play Smart commitment to the
community.
Our newest member, Rose Prescott,
experienced her first helmet fitting event.
We hope this is the beginning of many
more to come for Rose.
The team consisted of Terri DeBaun,
Elyse DePiro, Ruth Fralick, Joan Hurd,
President Marilyn Lewis and Rose
Prescott. Ruth has accepted the
responsibility of Projects Chairman and
organized this event for 75 kindergarten
students. Trisha Harmon is a
Kindergarten teacher at Shadowlawn.
She competed in our 5K and picked up a
brochure on BrainMinders at the Pilot
information table. She called and
requested the Pilot Club of Naples to
present the puppet show to all 5
kindergarten classes at the school.

are able to order helmets for our
BrainMinder Project events. At this

supply is low. Unfortunately, we will
not be able to represent Pilot Club of
Naples at the Blue Zone event at North
Collier Regional Park on November 14
th due to the shortage of helmets.
If you want to learn about the Blue
Zones Project, you can reserve your seat

free seminar at 2
pm at the Collier County Library-South
Regional Branch. Call 252.7542.

proud of each of our sponsors and want
everyone to know who they are.
Leili Walker accepts the Certificate of
Appreciation for Trader Joe’s,

NEW MEMBER!
Rose Prescott becomes an official new
member of the Pilot Club of Naples.
Rose has attended meetings with Becky
Jarrell several times and volunteered at
events such as the 5K Run and helmet
fitting at Shadowlawn. Rose and Becky
attended the Pilot Scholarship House
Shower for the residents in September.
We could not be more proud that Rose
joined us as our newest member.
Pat Stark and Rosemarie Kirk celebrated
October Birthdays at the monthly
meeting. The pictures tell it all. Pilots
have fun and enjoy the friendship.
Now that you have an
extra hour in each day, you may have
time to do a little “pick me up” in the
name of Pilot. Let us know what you did
and who received your kindness. Take a
photo to share. We want to know.
Mission of
the Pick Me Ups Initiative:
Pick Me Ups seeks to uplift and
appreciate family caregivers by

National Family Caregivers month and
National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness
Month. During November, we recognize
the impact of care giving and honor the

In an effort to keep you informed:
The Alzheimer’s Association website and
November newsletter article covers
“wandering”. The caregiver does not
expect his/her loved one to wander away
from the house, grocery store, bench or car.
Unfortunately, this is the case with
wandering behavior, it cannot be predicted.
Wandering needs to be anticipated. It isn’t
new news that there are many devices that
can provide tracking abilities but the focus
still needs to be on preventing wandering
incidents from occurring. As a person with
Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia
transitions from early-stage to mid-stage
they also transition to active supervision. It
is good to think of “layers” of protection,
that is supervision plus environmental
support.” “A GPS Wearable Wandering
Assistive Technology” system is available
from a company in California. It is worn in
the shoe and costs $299 per pair plus
shipping, plus a monitoring plan starting at
$25 per month, plus activation fee. It is
powered by a rechargeable battery that
lasts 2 – 3 days on a single charge. With
careful review, it is the opinion of the
writer that Project Lifesaver is a most
efficient and effective system with a track
record to prove it. The Pilot Club of

Fame Junior Achievement Plenty of wine and networking opportunities marked the night as hundreds of attendees dressed to the nines turned out at The Naples Grande Beach Resort to watch the organization induct Reinhold Schmieding and Brian Stock into the 2015 class of the Business Hall of Fame, Collier County.
Schmieding, founder and president of Arthrex Inc., has more than 30 years of experience in the surgical device industry. Schmieding graduated from Michigan State University with a physiology degree in 1977. He began his career in Germany with Richards Medical, then founded Arthrex in 1981 and established its corporate head-quarters in Naples a decade later.
Today, Arthrex employs more than 3,000 people in 13 countries and exports its products to more than 100 countries around the globe.
The company created more than 500 jobs in 2014.
This year, Fortune named of Arthrex among the “100 Best Companies to Work For.”
Schmieding said he relished the opportunity to make a difference in young people’s lives.
“At Arthrex, we believe that is important for students to be aware the career opportunities that are available for them right here in Southwest Florida, and understand that through sacrifice and determination they have the potential to turn their passions into a successful career that will help their local community thrive and reach their career goals. I hope that our history from Arthrex’s humble beginning will make a difference in the lives of Junior Achievement students,” he said.
Junior Achievement is the world’s largest organization dedicated to inspiring and preparing young people to succeed in a global economy.
The organization reaches 4.4 million students a year in 117 markets across the United States, and 5.8 million students in 121 other countries.
Schmieding said he considered his induction into Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida’s Business Hall of Fame a distinct honor. “I feel privileged to receive this recognition from Junior Achievement of Southwest
“Their leadership within the community and professional accomplishments are truly representative of Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida’s three pillars of entrepreneurship, work-readiness and financial literacy.”
