� KYSS CAMPAIGN UPDATE

NAPNAP’s KySS Campaign is rapidlygaining momentum. As of the deadlinefor this column, Campaign Chairper-son Bernadette Melnyk, PhD, RN, CS,PNP, reported that the campaign re-ceived endorsements or support fromthe following organizations: AmericanAcademy of Nurse Practitioners,National Association of School Nurses,Society of Pediatric Nurses, NationalOrganization of Nurse PractitionerFaculties, Association of Women’sHealth, Obstetric & Neonatal Nurses,the Association of Faculties of PediatricNurse Practitioners, the NationalCertification Board of Pediatric NursePractitioners/Nurses, the AmericanAcademy of Pediatrics, American Psy-chiatric Nurses Association, NationalAssociation of Neonatal Nurses, and theNational Association of Social Work-ers. Dr Melnyk believes the more orga-nizations that are involved, the greaterthe impact we will be able to make inpreventing and reducing emotionaland behavioral problems in childrenand teenagers. Dr Melnyk said that thedata from the KySS Survey adminis-tered in the summer is currently being

analyzed, and she expects to publish areport of the findings in the Journal ofPediatric Health Care in the spring.

� NATIONAL NETWORK FORIMMUNIZATION INFORMA-TION

We are pleased to announce that the Na-tional Network for Immunization In-formation (NNii) has expanded their net-work to include NAPNAP as a partnerorganization. NNii’s mission is to be areliable, timely source of information forproviders, parents, and the media aboutcurrent immunization issues, which issynergistic with the mission of NAPNAP.Member Patsy Stinchfield, MS, RN,CPNP, of Minnesota, is NAPNAP’s des-ignated representative to the NNii. MsStinchfield is a frequent speaker on vac-cine safety and communication at localand national immunization conferences,including the Center for Disease Con-trol and Prevention’s National Immu-nization Conference.

� BABY STEPS INITIATIVE

NAPNAP has teamed with Lamaze In-ternational and iVillage in developinga resource for new parents called BabySteps. A magazine that will be distrib-uted in maternity units and pediatricpractices, the premier issue will featuretopics such as “look, listen, and love”;a listing of special needs support groups;the first baby checkup; growth charts/percentiles demystified; immunizations—when and why; sneezing and hic-

cups—more than what they seem;choosing child care; feeding—more thanjust eating; sleep—daytime/nighttime;growth and development milestones;well-baby visits/prepared calls tohealth care professional about con-cerns; speech and hearing helpline; earinfections/tubes helpline; and colds/fevers/administering meds helpline.Among the NAPNAP members expect-ed to contribute editorially to this newventure are President Julie Novak,DNSc, RN, CPNP; Immediate Past Pres-ident Barbara Deloian, PhD, RN,CPNP; President-Elect Mary MargaretGottesman, PhD, RN, CPNP; DoloresJones, EdD, RN, CPNP; Linda Carlson,MS, RN, CPNP; Patsy Stinchfield, MS,RN, CPNP; and Deborah Parks, DSN,RN, CPNP.
