NAS Fort Worth JRB Commanding Officer Capt. Mike Steffen – Officiating officer during the Veteran War Veteran Recognition Ceremony, providing opening remarks, presenting letters of appreciation for the 1 August 2015 “Welcome Home” event and decorating pre‐selected Vietnam War veterans with the 50th Anniv. Commemoration Pin.    Tarrant County Commissioner Andy Nguyen – To bring forth a Resolution of Recognition for the installation and Veteran Support Organizations supporting the Tarrant County Veterans Legacy Project during Friday (22 April) evening’s Vietnam War Veteran Recognition Ceremony.  Jim Blythe, Col. Antoll & Judge John Payton – Radio personalities on 620AM “Alliance for the Brave,” to serve as masters of ceremonies.  Blythe served in Armed Forces Radio during the Vietnam War.

Vietnam War Veteran RecognitionDistinguished Speakers Panel

Col. Mike McCollum, USMC (Ret.) – Local Metroplex Marine icon whose 1966‐1998 career started as a judge advocate, but soon saw action in Vietnam as an air observer, artillery airborne observer and infantry officer.  Continues to be an outspoken advocate for Marines in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.  Lt. Col. John H. Yuill, USAF (Ret.) – NAS Fort Worth’s former guest speaker for POW/MIA Day observance.  Carswell B‐52 pilot who’s entire crew was shot down over Hanoi and survived harsh treatment as POWs.  Maj. Wendy Weller, USA (Ret.) ‐ Deployed to Vietnam in 1969 as a war‐zone combat nurse.  Assigned to the Army’s 95th Evacuation Hospital located near Da Nang, providing medical care for those with horrific injuries and unimaginable trauma. Dave Roever, USN ‐ Founder of Operation Warrior RECONnect.  He served as a river boat gunner in the elite Brown Water Black Beret of the Special Warfare Command on the rivers of Vietnam in 1968. Eight months into his tour of duty, he was burned beyond recognition when a phosphorous grenade he was poised to throw exploded in his hand. His survival was miraculous.  Today, with his humorous style, Dave Roever is enthusiastically received both nationally and internationally as a public speaker.

Vietnam War History Center Speakers for Saturday

• Col. Tony Wood, USMC (Ret.) – Served multiple tours in Vietnam, early as an infantry platoon commander and later as a coordinator to the evacuation of Saigon.  His gut‐wrenching story of the evacuation is a tribute to the sacrifice of all the people involved.  

• Col. Vince Osborne, USAF (Ret.) ‐ Currently serves as the Veterans Peer‐to‐Peer Coordinator at Pecan Valley Centers for Behavioral & Developmental Health Care.  Former Carswell B‐52 Electronic Warfare Officer who flew 123 missions over Viet Nam, Laos and Cambodia. 

• Joyce Denke ‐Red Cross "Donut Dolly", VN 70‐71, brought a “touch of home in the war zone,” taking diversionary games, mail from home, and a girl‐next‐door smile to combat troops. Each day, they boarded helicopters to be flown to forward‐operating base camps, landing zones, artillery positions, and firebases where they conducted programs, served chow, or just sat and talked with the GIs.

Rear Admiral William Retz, USN (Ret.) ‐ Commanding Officer, USS Stump (DD978); and Commander Destroyer Squadron Twenty‐Two.  Retz’ service in the Atlantic, Pacific and Mediterranean Theaters encompassed key international events, such as the 1973 Middle‐East crisis; Operation Game Warden in Vietnam; and the hostage crisis off Beirut.  Served as Executive Assistant to the Chief of Naval Personnel; Deputy Director for Operations, United States Central Command.RADM Retz to deliver Saturday’s (23 April) Key‐Note address to entire air show audience directly after Wings Over Vietnam demonstration. Selected Vietnam War Veterans will be “pinned” after remarks.

• Bob Schaefer, USMC – An enlisted Recon Marine who’s time in Vietnam sent him down a troubled path.  His road to recovery is a story of triumph which he regularly shares with  veterans.  

• Mike Folse – Bell Helicopter engineer from 1954 ‐ 1971 & Inventor of the AH‐1 Cobra.

Maj. Gen. James T. Jackson, USA (Ret.)  ‐ Director of U. S. of America Vietnam War Commemoration.  MG Jackson initially joined the Commemoration staff in 2012 as a senior advisor. In this capacity, the General helped develop partnerships with federal, state and local communities, veterans' groups and other nongovernmental organizations. Today, more than 8,000 Commemorative Partners across the country are committed to assisting the nation in recognizing our 7.2 million living Vietnam veterans and the 9 million families of those who served from November 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975.MG Jackson to deliver Sunday’s (24 April) Key‐Note address to entire air show audience directly after Wings Over Vietnam demonstration. Selected Vietnam War Veterans will be “pinned” after remarks.
