• 100 mile range with a recharge of 6-8 hours overnight
• Estimated $64,782 savings in diesel fuel and maintenance
• Success has led to $20M CNG school bus/station project.

2012 FOA – Implementation Initiatives to Advance Alternative Fuel Markets
• $11.1 million awarded
for 20 projects in 33
states.
• Selected projects built
on relationships with
Clean Cities coalitions.
• Projects ranged from
$248,000 to $1 million.
• Each project addressed
obstacles to using AFVs
in communities across
the country.
Expanding alternative fuel markets will
reduce U.S. petroleum dependence and
protect consumers from fluctuations in the
global oil market.

2014 FOA – Alternative Fuel Vehicle Deployment Initiatives
• Objective: To create and implement high impact and highly innovative approaches to increase the acceptance and deployment of Alternative Fuel Vehicles (AFVs).
• $4.5 million available
• 3 Areas of Interest (AOI)– AFV-use demonstrations via hands-on experiences
– Safety-related training
– Emergency preparedness

EPAct Program: New Vehicle Credit Allocations
• EISA 2007 authorized DOE to allot credit levels for Electric Drive
Vehicles (hybrids, PHEVs, MD/HD EVs, NEVs) under EPAct State and
Alternative Fuel Provider Fleet Program
• Key Concept -- AFVs are:
o Dedicated vehicles Operate solely on one or more AFs
o Dual fueled vehicles Capable of operating on AF and on gasoline/diesel
Key: NHTSA makes this determination based on EPA test
o AFVs receive 1 credit
• All other vehicles are not AFVs
