We will be discussing how light falls on form, how to measure properly, how to use an underpainting, glazing, direct vs. indirect painting, mixing color and how to achieve a pleasing composition. This class is perfect for young students who want to strengthen their portfolio, as well as for adults who want to improve their drawing and painting skills. Using classical techniques, you will able to draw or paint any subject matter. Lauren Rosenblum is a classically trained artist from New York.     Introduction to EncausticsInstructor: Jean ParkerSaturday, August 159:30am–3:30pm$75Great beginning class to try the everlasting methods of encaustics and leave with several small projects. Encaustic is a Greek word meaning “to heat or burn in” (enkaustikos). Heat is used throughout the process, from melting the beeswax and varnish to fusing the

    layers of wax. Encaustic consists of natural bees wax and dammar resin (crystallized tree sap). The medium can be used alone for its transparency or adhesive qualities or used pigmented. Pigments may be added to the medium or purchased colored with traditional artist pigments. The medium is melted and applied with a brush or any tool the artist wishes to create from.
