Guided HikesRed Leaves Overnight Hike

A park ranger will guide your group to one of our backcountry camp sites along the Red Leaves Trail. This will include a pre-trip inspec-tion, safety talk, and trail etiquette. The ranger will assist your group with proper camp setup before leaving for the night.

Minimum of 10 HikersCost: $20/person

Night HikeSee and hear the sights and sounds of the

night on this ranger led hike at Natchez Trace. Learn about our native owls and what they sound like.

Minimum of 10 HikersCost: $5 per person

Nature HikeTake a hike with your group led by a park

ranger. On this nature quest you will discover facts about ecology, wildlife, and native plants among other things.

Minimum of 10 HikersCost: FREE

Dendrology HikeTake this short hike with a ranger to learn

different tree species. Hikers will learn tree identification techniques and other facts about the trees found at Natchez Trace.

Minimum of 10 HikersCost: FREE

Wildlife EducationBirds of Prey

Schedule a one-on-one experience with a park ranger and a non-releasable bird of prey for your group. This 30 minute program will look at what makes these birds unique.

Minimum of 5 ParticipantsCost: Free

SnakesEvery animal has a place in our ecosystem.

Here you can learn all you need to know about snakes, their role in nature, and if they’re ven-omous or not. If you’re brave enough a park ranger will even let you touch a non-venomous snake.

Mammals & Their PeltsA ranger is waiting with a box full of native

mammal pelts to share with your group. Learn all you can about the mammals found at Nat-chez Trace.

Crafts in NatureIn this family oriented program you can

enjoy crafting with things found in nature. Learn how to make nature inspired art with a park ranger.

Each program will have a different craft. For more information please call the park office.

Survival SkillsPrimative Fire Starting

Have you every wanted to learn how to make a proper fire? You will be instructed in modern & primitive fire starting. In this hands on experience you will be prepared for any campfire situation led by one of the park rangers.

Minimum of 5 PartipantsCost: $5 per person

Orienteering (Navigation)During this program a ranger will demon-

strate the proper use of a map and compass. You will learn how to apply these skills in nature and become a pro-navigator.

Minimum of 8 PartipantsCost: $5Map & Compass Provided (Limit 10)

ArcheryEmbrace your inner Robin Hood in this pro-

gram all about archery and other tradtional tools. You will learn the proper way to use a bow and arrow.

Minimum of 5 PartipantsCost: $15 per person

Shelter BuildingRefine those primitive skills with the ultimate

necessity to survival in the forest. In this pro-gram you can learn the proper techiniques to building a shelter, led by a park ranger.

Minimum of 5 PartipantsCost: $10

Black Powder DemoLearn about the lifestyles of the early

explorers and longhunters. Leave it to a park ranger to show you how a real flintlock rifle works.

Minimum of 10 PartipantsCost: $5

“CCC” Camp & Park HistoryLearn about the area before it became a

state park and see firsthand the transition into what you see today as Natchez Trace.

AdventureKayak & Canoe

Ranger led, learn “all you need to (ca)noe about yakking,” in this program for beginners. Hands on demonstrations and instructions available for both canoes & kayaks.

Archery CourseShow off your archery skills you learned in

our “Archery” program. In this fast paced course you will learn more advanced archery skills and a chance to particpate in a friendly competition.

KnotsLearn the proper techniques of basic & com-

plex knot tying and their multiple applications.

Giving BackHave you ever wanted to help your local park but you

didn’t know how? Here you can find a list of opportuni-ties to volunteer & help Natchez Trace State Park:

• Invasive Plant Removal - Not all plants you see in the park are supposed to be here. Their presence can disrupt the ecosystem and harm our native plants.

• Keeping Natchez Clean - This is a community service opportunity to help keep the park clean and looking beautiful. Not only for you and our visitors, but for the animals that inhabit the park.

• Trail Restoration - In order for everyone to enjoy our hiking trails, the trails themselves require a certain amount of upkeep. You can learn how to create a proper trail while volunteer-ing your time to keep our trails safe, accessible, and clean.

Family FriendlyS’mores & Stories

Sit around a campfire and learn how to make a s’more. In this family oriented setting, you and your family can enjoy s’mores and campfire stories told by our park rangers.

All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Hayless Hayride Join us for a night ride of fun for all ages. On

the Hayless Hayride, we travel to some of our favorite spots throughout the park, we might hear noises from the wild & some spooky sto-ries from a park ranger.

30 Max PartipantsCost: $20 per group

Nature CraftsIn this family oriented program you can

enjoy crafting with things found in nature. Learn how to make nature inspried art with a park ranger.

Pantoon CruisesExplore Pin Oak Lake on a pantoon boat led

by a park ranger. Here you can sit back and relax on the water while you learn about the park’s history, wildlife, and local stories.
