The Bar West 4-H Beef Club had a very fun and enjoyable year. Our club organized in early Novem-ber with club registrations. We had 15 members join for the year with most taking the steer project and some taking also a heifer and a cow/calf. We also had one mem-ber taking the Clo-ver Bud program. We hold monthly meetings, usually at members’ homes. Some members at-tended Fall Fair and Agribition with their projects, while others attend-ed as spectators. Throughout the year members also took part in the dis-trict public speak-ing. Attended also The Yorkton Spring Steer and Heifer Show and the Weldon Spring Steer and Heifer Show. The club also joined the LeRoy Light Horse Club doing a fundraiser by serving lunch at a farm auction. Everyone feasted on roast beef or sausage and had a lot of fun. One of the highlights of our year was when we were sent an

award from Gord Bamford for the club selling the most CDs . Our Achievement Day on July 6. It was an extremely hot day. Thanks to our many spon-sors, our Judges Garry and Braxton Berting and to all who made it a success. We fi nished the year off

with our club go-ing to the Melfort Regional Show and Sale. There was lots of competition in all classes. Some of the highlights were Russell Moellen-beck 3rd and Der-rick Hogemann 5th in the Scholarship program. Ryley Moellenbeck win-ning Junior Cham-pion Female and Jennifer Harcourt having Reserve Champion steer!!

Thanks to our steer buyers and all who support the 4-H program, your support is appreciated. Look-ing forward to this year as it marks the 40th year of 4-H for Bar West. We will be organizing soon and look forward to seeing old and new faces at the meetings.

Bar West 4-H Beef Club

Kelvington 4-H Beef Club was 10 members strong in the 2010-2011 year. We started the year out by do-ing a raffl e for a whole beef which was won locally.

Our club got right into curling by getting to go on to compete in the Provincial 4-H curl-ing this year. A great time was had by all.

Every year we cater to our local Co-op’s Annual supper for 150 people.

We also work closely with our local Co-op by helping out our envi-ronment by collecting old and used batteries for recycling. The co-op is the collecting depot and organizes the shipment of them.

Our public speaking was very entertaining as well this year with a good variety of speeches. We had

members go on to District and Regional public speak-ing. Good job members!

Our club members with their calves met at a farm where Ste-ven Wielgosz from the Melfort area gave advice to the members as they were clipping their animals and the use of the grooming products.

Our members also catered to a local farm auction in Kelvington in April, which proved that many hands make light work as they cooked up over 1200 burgers and 300 smok-ies. What a great day.

Both local and Regional 4-H shows were a great suc-cess again.

We are looking forward to another great year and we are always looking for new members.

The Heartland 4-H Beef Club had a busy year. We reorganized in October with nine mem-bers in our club. They were Dylan Bowman, Kelsey, Brook, Dawn and Tyler Dust, Jus-tin and Makayla Glessman, Kyle Hale and Jenna Weiman.

We hosted Dis-trict #21 Public Speaking. Our members attend the Yorkton and Weldon Spring Steer and Heifer Shows. Our mem-bers took part in the Bruno Lions Steer and Heifer Jackpot. Brook Dust had the Champion Steer and Kyle Hale was Supreme Showman.

We did something different for our Achieve-

ment Day this year, we held it with the Bruno Lions Sports Day. The morning started out cool

but the mem-bers had a great day. Kelsey Dust had our Cham-pion Heifer; Brook Dust had Reserve Champion Heifer, Dawn Dust Cham-pion Steer and Brook Dust Re-serve Champion Steer. Our Show-manship winners were Makayla Glessman for Clo-ver Bud, Brook Dust for Junior, Dylan Bowman

for Intermediate and Kyle Hale for Senior.Our members ended the year by taking part

in the Prairieland Junior Ag Showcase in Saska-toon. All of our members did very well.

Heartland 4-H Beef ClubCarlton Trail 4-H Horse Club

The Carlton Trail 4-H Horse Club had a very busy year in 2010-11. Our club had a total of 13 members, aged 7 to 17. In November we held elections and had a fi eld trip to Agribition, watch-ing the ranch horse competition and rodeo. The highlight of the day would have to be when Amber Marshall was spot-ted walking past our seats at the ro-deo—fi ve excited girls scampered af-ter her and she gra-ciously posed for a photo with them!

January 2 we held our 2nd an-nual New Year’s Toboggan Party at the Triple Wham-my hill on the farm of Carol and Eu-gene McSymytz for fun and fellowship. Jan. 29 we headed to Saskatoon to thoroughly enjoy the WCVM horse day.

February saw us hosting our major fundraiser for the year, our annual snowmobile poker rally in the Touchwood Hills, based out of Carol and Eugene McSymytz’ yard. We had a fantastic turnout, our thanks to all who attended for sup-porting our club. On Feb. 12 we had our club public speaking at the Merry Mixers Hall in La-nigan. All winners were eligible to move on to districts held on March 5 in the North Star Men-nonite Church basement. Three members from

our club advanced to regionals held on March 19 in Jansen Community Hall. No one from our district advanced to provincials, but they all did very well.

The end of March through June we concen-trated on our rid-ing and books, having eight meet-ings to prepare for achievement day on June 25. We did one more fundrais-er on June 21, sup-plying the steak supper at Western Beef’s fi eld day at Termuende Farm.

A c h i e v e m e n t day was held at Drifting M Ranch, with all members achieving. Mem-bers displayed completed record books, wrote their quizzes, then par-ticipated in tack

and groom, showmanship, trail and equitation with judge Isabel Logel. We had roping, bar-rel racing and junior leader demonstrations. A break was taken for the fun money auction with Brian Guenther as auctioneer. We also had a race and chase fun time followed by awards and pre-sentations, then a potluck supper was the con-clusion to a busy but enjoyable day. Our club was only in its second year, and we had a great one! Thanks to all leaders, members, parents and sponsors who helped make it a success!

The Carlton Trail 4-H Beef Club had a great 2010-2011 4-H year. Members participated in Team Grooming competitions at Saskatoon Fall Fair and Canadian Western Agribition. Some members also went to the Prairieland Youth Leadership Conference and Yorkton Spring Steer and Heifer Show. We enjoyed listening to

the kids’ Public Speaking speeches at the Club, District and Regional level.

The club’s main project is the Beef project with 13 members. We also had some other projects part of the Club this year. Small Engine with three members, a Foods project with one mem-ber and a Cloverbud project with one member.

– Ally Tetzlaff, Rebecca Fitzsimmons, 6 juniors – Connor Tetzlaff, Kyle Kirzinger, Ensley Fen-delet, Elliott Fendelet, Brookelynn Tetzlaff, Chelsey Fitzsimmons, - 4 Intermediate – Wyatt Isaacson, Patrick Lang, Kelsie Isaacson, Cath-erine Lang, and 5 seniors – Al Ross, Catlin Gusikoski, Teresa Mann, Dakota Isaacson, Alicia Sopatyk. The club had 3 leaders – Gen-eral/Project leader - Janice Sopatyk, additional project leaders- Randy Tetzlaff, Tracy Fitzsim-mons.

The club elections resulted in: President – Te-resa, Vice-President- Dakota, Secretary –Kelsie and Treasurer – Catherine.

The club held its meetings at the Viscount School on varying dates to try to meet mem-ber’s busy schedules. We had a few guest speakers – Harvey Welter – talking about calf selection and judging, Mike Deneiko – talking about feeding and marketing steers, and Brian Anderson – talking about CCIA tags and age verifi cation. Thank-you speakers for your time and wisdom.

The members have a number of weigh days at the Golden Hill Cattle Company. The fi rst practice and weigh day in May was at Rod and Karen Dales’ farm. Thank-you to both of you for letting us use your facilities.

All 4-H members are required to do public speaking at least at the club level and all the speeches were very interesting to listen to. Members can then choose to go on to district lev-els. Alicia, Teresa, Catherine, Patrick, Chelsey, and Rebecca went onto District #21 at Bruno on March 6, 2011. Alica, Catherine, Chelsey and Rebecca went onto NE Regionals in Jansen on March 19, 2001. Alicia then proceeded onto Provincials near the end of March.

For fundraising the club catered a supper for the Forage Tour at the Meacham hall on June 15, 2011.

The Beef club was invited by the Viscount

Multiple Club for a fun afternoon at the Viscount rink for skat-ing, movie watching and ate pizza. It was a great time.

On Feb. 25, 26, and 27, 2011 Catherine, Patrick and Chelsey participated in a lead-ership conference in Saskatoon learning about goal setting and future jobs skills.

Judging was also another activity that members could par-ticipate in. Alicia and Catherine did well in

Feb. in PA and won a place to go back to pro-vincials in Aug. Teresa and Kelsie did well in Saskatoon with judging and won places to go to provincials also. While the girls were in PA in Aug they did a great job. Kelsie placed 1st in dairy heifers, Teresa placed 1st in sheep or-der and oral reasoning’s, Alicia placed second 3 times and placed third twice. Alicia was sec-ond overall and Teresa was fi fth so they both qualify to go to Agribition this fall. Way to go girls.

The Club’s Achievement Day was at Vis-count Rink on July 2nd, 2011. We want to say thank-you to all the sponsors that supported the prizes for the day – we appreciate it. It was a great day. The person who worked with the members for judging was Dawn Dust from Bruno. The other judge for the animals and record books was Patty Smith. Patty was very supportive and talked to each member and the crowd to explain the reason for her selections and about ways the members could improve their skills. It is always a very busy time, but a day full of learning for everyone. Thanks Dawn and Patty and Viscount Rink Recreation Board for the use of the rink.

The placements for the Achievement Day are as follows: Member of the Day – Kyle Kirz-inger, Record Book – Cloverbud – Rebecca Fitzsimmons, Junior – Chelsey Fitzsimmons, Intermediate – Catherine Lang, Senior – Alicia Sopatyk. Grooming – Cloverbud – Ally Tet-zlaff, Junior – Chelsey Fitzsimmons, Interme-diate - Kelsie Isaacson, Senior - Teresa Mann, Showmanship – Cloverbud – Ally Tetzlaff, Ju-nior – Brookelynn Tetzlaff, Intermediate – Wy-att Isaacson, Senior – Teresa Mann, Grand Champions - Heifer – Ally Tetzlaff, Cow/Calf – Connor Tetzlaff, Calf – Chelsey Fitzsimmons, Steer- Chelsey Fitzsimmons. Prediction of year end calf weight was Ally Tetzlaff. Steer that gained the best average daily gain was 3.10 – Chelsey Fitzsimmons’ steer. The member that was the grand aggregate of the club was Chelsey Fitzsimmons.

The members had a few days off then it was into Saskatoon for the Regional show on July 8,9,10 and 11. It is four days of lots of activities. Saturday starts with all the members judging in 5 different categories. This year the catego-ries included: beef steer, beef heifer, sheep, light horse and GMC trucks. The members did great. This is where Teresa, Kelsie, Cath-erine and Alicia again placed so well that they moved on to provincial judging. Many other members placed in the top 10 in at least one of the categories and Chelsey placed 3rd overall for judging in juniors. Catherine also placed top fi ve in the stockmen’s competition.

Our steer show resulted in Elliott and Kelsie placing 1st in their classes. The other mem-bers placed well in their classes also. Our steer sale in Saskatoon went well considering we have great sponsor support from businesses in our community. The members really appreci-ate your fi nancial support. LeRoy Light Horse 4-H Club is in its 3rd year. We are a small club with lots of enthusiasm. We have 13 members this year ranging in age from 6-17. Our mem-bers enjoy riding as much as we can and also getting together to do gym blasts, work on record books, wiener roasts, winter projects and many other fun things. We have our annual achievement

day in July where the members show-case what they have learned throughout the year with classes in judging, halter showmanship, bareback, western plea-sure, reining, and equitation.
