Concept:
The VDS is a program to provide on-site assistance and outreach to low-income and Hispanic immigrant families unfamiliar with the US health system.

Objectives:
Increase the health conditions and to strength the diseases prevention mechanisms of Mexican families living in the U.S.
Increase the knowledge and utilization of public health programs
Reduce the use of ER services
Create a trusting information center that provides referrals and materials for the Mexican families living in the U.S.
Establish an active and direct collaboration between organisms/health institutions, Mexican consulates, health departments (multi-sector collaboration)

Results of an OH Pilot Study with Center for Immigrant Health (NYC) and NIOSH
185 participants surveyed/ 77% were under age 40 and 68% were male
Lines of work• 37% in restaurants• 18% in cleaning industry• 12% in construction
Work related pain•18% reported suferring from pain or illness related to work• 79% were musculoskeletal pain (back and shoulder pain, foot pain, carpal tunnel syndrome)
