How we’ll do the evaluation

• Yearly online survey of project leads

• Short online survey of all participants at registration & then annual progress surveys

• 15 detailed case studies with up to 8 interviews across 2 sampling points (or equivalent qualitative methods)

o …of which, 6 will be case studies focusing on the Social Return on Investment (SROI)

• 30 in-depth interviews

How they found out about the

project

What motivated them to join

Length of time with project

Previous sports participation

Assessment of deadweight

(what would have happened

anyway)

Previous/current sports participation

Measure key impacts (inc wider outcomes e.g.

improved health)

Assessment of attribution (how much of it is to

do with CSAF funding/project)

Amount of sport they undertake outside of the

project

If not undertaking sport, why they no longer

participate

Wider outcomes measured e.g. movement into

sports volunteering, the extent to which they

have encouraged others to participate in sport

Their views on the project e.g. what works well &

what motivates them to continue engaging in

sport

Working with projects – supporting activity

• Share a briefing document outlining the evaluation (aims & objectives) for all project staff & partners

• Attend regional workshops & update on progress/learning from evaluation

• Support/advice to projects taking part in case studies

• Share findings (e.g. from survey) back to each project

• Direct contact details to discuss any issues relating to the evaluation

Page 10: National Evaluation of Community Sport Activation Fund (CSAF)

• Online survey of project leads

• Online survey of participants:

o CFE Research will send each project lead a unique web-link to a registration survey – to be disseminated to each new participant

o CFE Research will request contact details from participants during registration survey & will then contact directly for annual surveys

• Consult with SE/projects on content of annual surveys, depth interviews with participants & case studies

5. What projects need to do

Page 16: National Evaluation of Community Sport Activation Fund (CSAF)

3 things projects need to do

1. Talk to us! – mutual benefits of working together

2. Send out registration surveys, promote it, tell us about any issues (e.g. accessibility)

3. If selected for interviews/case studies – make the most of it!
