1.1 Home Page• Free text search: Searches the

metadata for matching keywordsthanshowsallthemetadatamatchingthesekeywords

• Advanced search: allows to searchusing resource type (service ormetadata),categoryand/orfreetext.

• After the search is done the clickeddataset/service metadata will bedisplayed. Two types of metadata(servicemetadataanddatametadata).ServicemetadatareferstotheWMS’sand dataset metadata refers to theactualdatasetsmetadata.

• Twobasemaps are on themetadatabrowser; one is a more generalisedand simple from open layers dataandtheotheristheNSATopographicbasemap.

1.3 Digital Namibia This platform enables users to view

and perform basic spatial analysison fundamental datasets held bydifferent government bodies online.UserscangodirectlytotheportalbyfollowingtheURL:digitalnamibia.nsa.org.na

1.4 Login• Those registered and authenticated

as metadata providers/editors willseeanewtab(MetadataEditor)thisallowstoaddmetadataforaservice/dataset and it follows the NSDImetadataprofile.

• This will only be available to theorganizations who have signed theMoUandshallbetrainedbeforebeinggrantedaccessasadministrator.

2.1 Search theme content or add mapAllowstosearchasfreetextandpullsfromattributesofthedataformatchingcharacters.

2.2 BasemapsThreebasemapsareavailable:NSATopo–NSAcustomisedtopographicbasemapshowingNamibianvectordatasets.

NSAImages–NSAcustomisedbasemapshowingaerialimagesformunicipalitiesandcertaintownsinNamibia,theseimagesareonlyavailableatcertainzoomlevel(1:72000).

OpenStreetMap–Openstreetmapbasemap.

2.3 Zoom PanelAllowstozoomin/out,zoomtolastknownlocationandzoomtohome/fullextent.

2.4 Tools and Functions Tab (Right side)1. Digital Namibia:Briefdescription

of the platform, its functionalityandfeaturescorporatelogos.

2. Login:Allowstheusertoregister,logged in user configurationsare set. Once logged in the tabchangesnameto‘Profile’.

3. Share or Print Map: allows toshare via Facebook, twitter,LinkedIn, google plus or via aURL.Allowstosharefile(map)viaemail, saves thefile forprinting,save as georeferenced imageandallowstogenerateacustomHTML code for use within anywebsiteoftheuser.

4. Layer Manager Pro:Thisiswherethe actual layers are located. Toview a specific layer, select thetopic category first and thenselect the layer. This is becausethe layers are sorted accordingto topic categories as in thegazetted metadata standard.Users can manage their displaypriority by moving layers up ordowninothercategorieswithoutaltering the existing structureof the portal. Note: changes in display priority only applies to the user’s browser.

5. Legend:Isavailablewhenalayeror layers are selected. It givesinformation about the layer bymeansofsymbols.

6. Draw and Measure: Onlyavailable when user has loggedin! Allows to draw points, linesandpolygonson themapand itcan be saved and exported intothe available formats (.shp, .csv,.txt,etc.).Thelinesandpolygonscan be used as measure tools.Linesmeasuredistanceorlengthandpolygonsmeasurearea.

7. My Data: Only available whenuser has logged in! Allows toaddawebmapservice(WMS),asinglefiledatasetsuchasaKMLfileandashapefile.Note: added data is only visible to the user.

8. Workspace: Allows to save thearea of interest frequently orfor any purpose as a bookmark.When saved allows to zoom tothebookmarkedareabyclickingonthebookmark.

Identify Tool

Inordertoviewtheattributesassociatedwithaspecificlocation(point,line,andpolygon),clickonthelocation,byclickingthenameofthelocationinthepopupwindowyouaccesstheattributesavailabletobeviewedbytheuser.

Sunset/Sunrise Tool

Toviewthesunset/sunriseofaparticularareaclicktheiconofthe‘sun’,thepop-upwindowindicatesthepredictedsunset/sunriseforthatparticulararea.

3. Additional Functionality

Report Generation Tool

Theportalalsoallowstogeneratereportsinpdfformat.Thisisdonebyclickingonthelayer(point,lineorpolygon).Thenbyclickingthefeaturenametheattributeswillbeviewable,byclickingthedownloadpdf,thereportisgeneratedinpdfformatanddownloaded.

Attribute Table View and Download Tool

Toviewanddownloadtheattributetableofthelayer,clickthethreedashedhorizontal linesnexttothelayernametoaccesstheattributetableofthelayer.

Todownloadthelayer,clickexportandselectthepreferredformatforuse(CSV,SHPetc.)Note: only downloads the attributes of the layer in view of the user, i.e. “the zoom extend”

Viewing Basic Metadata

DigitalNamibiahostsbasicmetadataondatasetsviewabledirectlyintheportal.Toaccessthebasicmetadata,clickonthearrow(>)onthelayer.Thedescriptionofthedatasetisdisplayed.Byclickingonthe“ShowDublinCoremetadata”,displaystherestofthebasicmetadataavailablesuchascoverage,creator,dateandmore.

4. Custom GUI’SStatistics Highlights

Thisgraphicuserinterface(GUI)hasthesametabsandfunctionalitiesasthoseinDigitalNamibia.It’sacustomversionfororganizationstodisplaytheirspecificdata.ThisGUIdisplaysstatisticalandcensushighlightslikethe2011CensusandLabourForceSurveyscarriedoutbytheNSA.
