nsA presIDent’s report John Aubrey

This Annual Report represents a continued effort to accurately and responsibly reflect the commitment of the National Sheriffs’ Association to accountability and transparency.

2014 was a year of transition with the retirement of our Executive Director, Aaron Kennard. A National search for a new Director was laborious but most successful with a number of excellent candidates to review.

The Leadership and Staff of NSA have done a yeomen’s job of filling the interim void left by Aaron’s retirement. I am most proud of the work and support they have all contributed to keep our Association moving forward.

I also want to thank our membership for your continued support of the National Sheriffs’ Association.

Let’s continue to work together to grow our Association through striving for 100 percent membership participation in our respective states.

I hope you are as proud as I am to be a member of the National Sheriffs’ Association and to stand shoulder to shoulder with some of the finest law enforcement leaders in America. Together, we are NSA strong!

This 2014 Annual Report reflects the Fiscal Year, October 1, 2013 through September 30, 2014.

I am happy to say that 2014 ended on a higher note than was anticipated. NSA is still facing hurdles from the lack of grant funding and with the impact of the economy, but I am confident that with the anticipated arrival of our new executive director, 2015 will be a better year.

NSA staff has focused on bringing new and innovative training, webinars, and resources to our members to ensure their continued support of the association. We will make the organization the one that sheriffs and law enforcement choose to go to. We have identified areas that we will focus on and will move forward with when the new executive director comes onboard.

We have many programs like the FLETC program to offer free training to our members. We also have great member benefits (discount programs) that will help retain our members. Our certification programs in Homeland Security, Court Security and Jail Operations are slowly building up steam. We have also revamped the Neighborhood Watch program since the grant funding has come to an end. We are hopeful that we will continue to see growth here to increase our non-due revenues.

The staff continues to work hard with less resources in making sure that NSA remains a strong, viable organization that not only I but all of us can be proud of. They have worked very hard in this transition year.
