    NATIONAL STAPLE GOODS PURCHASE PROJECT

    Cycle #19

    NOI Ministry of Agriculture Coordinators

    WELCOME!

Thank you for your commitment to work and

ensure that You, your Families, Friends and

Communities are preparing your homes, and for

the continued support of the economic growth

and development of your National Staple Goods

    Project.

  • It is important for us as Coordinators to know as much as we can about the Staple Goods Project, in our efforts to serve our communities, address their questions regarding the project, and continue to increase our productivity. The information following is taken from your Tri-fold brochure, which is a good handout when soliciting new participants. Prints on 8.5” x 11.0” paper and is double-sided. Once folded, there is room to put your contact information. (1” x 2 and 5/8” address label can be used.)

What is the National Staple Goods Purchase Project?

The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad asked us, “What do you have stored in your houses for the day of want?” The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan has warned us to prepare for forthcoming weather disasters. To this end, we in the Nation of Islam Ministry of Agriculture (NOIMOA), organized our efforts and in 2011 began the cooperative purchase and distribution of staple goods. Adopting the “Cooperative Corporation” philosophy, each local Ministry of Agriculture Staple Goods Coordinator works to service their respective area encouraging us to pool our resources together as Individuals, Families, Communities, Organizations, Churches, Study Groups, Mosques, Cities, States and a Nation.

Some of the goals for this type of cooperative economic system includes: 1. Participants are learning the process of bulk purchasing and cross country distribution, 2. They are learning the inner workings of national production, manufacturing and distribution systems, 3. They are learning and practicing principles of cooperative economics, 4. Collective decision making, 5. Group investing and operational unity.

How Does The Staple Goods Project (SGP) Work?

The National Staple Goods Purchase Project currently takes place bi-annually with 70+ cities currently participating throughout the U.S.

Cities are represented by Staple Goods City Coordinators. All participants from Massachusetts to Florida to California pay the same price for the products, which includes shipping costs to their respective cities. For a city to participate, they must have a minimum total order of 500 lbs. Orders are collected by the City Coordinator who keeps each participant abreast of the process; when to collect funds, and the coordination of delivering products when they arrive.

The continued growth and development of the Staple Goods Project will lead to the establishing of our cooperative corporation. A cooperative is a business owned and controlled by the people who use its services. They collectively nance and operate the business or service for their mutual benet. By pooling their resources and working together, they can reach an objective that would not be attainable if acting alone.

  • Project Workow Overview (3 Phases)

    Objectives

The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad asked us, “What do you have stored in your houses for the day of want?” The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan has warned us to prepare for forthcoming weather disasters. To this end, we (NOIMOA) have organized the cooperative purchase and distribution of staple goods to each local Ministry of Agriculture to service their respective area.

Prots from each staple goods cycle will be available at the end of the cycle for participating members to: 1. Re-invest into the Co-op 2. Donate to the 3 Year Economic Program 3. Receive a patronage refund

We will continue to build on this activity to further solidify our foundation to build a conglomerate of cooperative corporations, national production, distribution, and cooperative communities. This is a crucial platform in building our infrastructure within the Nation of Islam to establish sustainable local consumer markets, interstate commerce, and international trade. We have the will, talent, technology, and capacity to re-build and expand on the NOI’s pinnacle of success reached in 1975. IT’S NATION TIME!

  • Processing Procedures - Collecting Payment

    2. Buy a 2 part receipt book (Press firmly when writing to ensure purchaser’s copy is clear and legible)

Top copy is for your records. You can attach it to your completed order form for that purchaser (see form below).

2nd copy is for purchaser (participant)

    3. Collect money and issue receipts

Write a receipt in your receipt book for every transaction. Note whether the transaction is cash, check or online payment type. Do not accept money from a purchaser if you are not prepared by having your receipt book.

Verify the purchaser’s total based on the order form you have filled out for that purchaser. To avoid confusion once we are in the funds collecting phase, when you contact each participant, let them know the amount you are showing as their total due. Any discrepancies in totals between your record and the purchaser’s record should be worked out prior to collecting funds and writing receipts.

If you use any means other than cash, for example you agree to accept a personal check, make sure you allow at least 5 business days before the money collection end date (see your coordinator’s package “General Schedule”), to make sure those funds are cleared and available.
