WELCOME Haere mai koutou nga rangatahi tane, wahine ranei, ki Otautahi On behalf of Bowls New Zealand it gives me great pleasure to welcome to Christchurch the young men and women competing in the National Under 18 Singles Championships. This event is aimed at bringing together our youth from across the country and who have either entered as a member of an affiliated club or who have qualified through a Secondary Schools competition. This is the first level of national competition in our sport and the sustained exposure to higher-level experience will hopefully provide encouragement for our younger players to continue with their development in this ‘sport for all ages’. I know that our host for this tournament, Papanui Club Outdoor Bowls, has been looking forward to the young men and women visiting and playing at the club. Thank you to the club and members for your hospitality and for opening your facilities and greens to our young people and their supporters. The hosting of a national tournament places significant demands on any club’s members, volunteers, facilities, and greens, and the way in which Papanui has responded to these demands is much appreciated. Thank you also to the umpires, markers and other officials contributing to this tournament To our players, enjoy the tournament and the experience, enjoy the friendships you will make, and do come back again next year. Arohanui Mike Spring, President
