The Application Form lists general personal information, educational background, professional experience, knowledge of English language and is included to the interviewers’ package as the main information about the applicant. Although applicants may submit a resume, they should not complete any section of the application by referring the Admissions Committee to an enclosed resume or vitae or to other parts of the application.

The Application Form may be obtained directly from the KSE Admissions Office or by mail, if requested. The Application Form plus additional information can also be obtained through the Internet at http://www.kse.org.ua/admissions/.

2. Registration Form

The Registration Form serves the purpose of initial registration and includes personal data of each applicant. It is to be completed by all applicants. The Registration Form may be obtained directly from the KSE Admissions Office or by mail, if requested. It can also be obtained through the Internet at http://www.kse.org.ua/admissions/.

3. Statement of Purpose

One of the most important parts of the application form is the 250-word statement of purpose on why you wish to study economics and how a master's degree in economics is related to your career goals and intellectual interests. The statement of purpose should be typed, double-spaced on a separate sheet of paper, in English. It should include the purpose of your scientific and professional interests and objectives, and a description of your goals, and how the master’s program can help you meet them. If you are primarily interested in research, also include a description of the research that you wish to pursue and report, if applicable, your research in progress. In general, a good statement of purpose should include answers to the following questions:

How your personal background, interests, and experience will help you to study in the program?

What have you already done, at any level, in the field of economics or finance?

How does the master’s program fit into your short-term and long-term career goals?

The statement of purpose should be entirely the applicant’s original work. It must be also written in English and NOT in another language, as well as not translated for the applicant by another person.

4. Recommendation Letters

Recommendation letters should be provided by three individuals, such as university instructors or employers (that is, from people who have supervised you in either an academic, professional, or community service capacity, and who can comment on your intellectual ability, creativity, initiative, sensitivity to others, and leadership potential).

Recommendations should not be written by friends or family members. When feasible, at least one should be from a university professor familiar with your academic work.

Letters of recommendation should include the name, title, address, and telephone number of the person providing the recommendation and should be signed and officially stamped. Unstamped or unsigned recommendations without certified translation are not accepted for consideration. All recommendation letters should be provided to the student by the recommenders in the sealed and signed envelopes and in such format submitted to the KSE Admissions Office.

6. 3 photos 3 cm x 4 cm

Photos can be either color or white & black, but should meet the requested size parameters (3cm x 4cm).

7. Medical Certificate ф-086/о form

All applicants are requested to submit an original medical certificate corresponding to the form ф-086/о. Though the title of this form may differ from country to country, the content is the same. Such certificate is issued to a person for the purpose of admission to the educational institutions and lists examination statements by major doctors (therapist, oculist, neuropathologist and others).

If medical certificate is issued in the native language, its English translation should be submitted as well (regards international students only).

8. Passport

A copy of the passport should be submitted to the KSE Admissions Office together with other application materials by June 27, 2011. The original passport should be presented at the beginning of the KSE General Admission Test and the Interview, for personal identification.

Interview

Based on the results of the preceding KSE General Admission Test, applicants may be invited to an interview in English with two professional economists. The interviewers will ask questions about the applicant’s educational and professional background, academic and career goals, English-language proficiency, as well as about the applicant’s familiarization with the KSE curriculum. The interview may also include a discussion of the candidate’s application documents.

Two tips for the preparation of the interview:

1. Know KSE MA Programs and the curriculum: know what courses are taught in the first and the second years of study (both the names of the courses and their contents are given on the KSE website). Some students only discover at the admission interview that the economics that is taught at the KSE is quite different from the economics taught at the majority of undergraduate institutions in Ukraine.

2. Know what is happening around you : read newspaper/listen to news on the radio or watch TV news. It is important that the applicant is aware about the economic/political situation in his/her country and the world.

Q: How can I prepare myself better for the KSE General Admission Test?A: In order to aid its applicants in preparation to the KSE General Admission Test, KSE has developed a series of preparation guidelines. Firstly, applicants are greatly encouraged to use the guidelines and recommended literature included in the Admission Brochure that gives a brief overview of the Test contents, as well as suggests sources for preparation. The majority of recommended literature is available at the KSE Library that is open to applicants free of charge. Secondly, KSE has placed a sample of the KSE General Admission Test at its website at: http://kse.org.ua/uploads/file/KSE_General_Admission_Test.doc. Sample is easily accessible and represents the most typical format and questions. Lastly, all applicants are invited to the Mathematics Preparatory Sessions, conducted during the regular KSE Open Houses and a One-Day KSE General Admission Test Preparatory Session six to three weeks before the admissions.

Q: What should I expect from an interview? Do I need to specifically prepare myself? A: During the interview, interviewers usually ask questions about the applicant’s educational and professional background, academic and career goals, English-language proficiency, as well as about applicant’s familiarization with the KSE curriculum. The interview may also include a discussion of candidate’s application documents. Therefore, for preparation to an interview it is desirable that the applicant gets acquainted with the School, its mission, content and course offerings. This can be easily done by searching the KSE’s website or attending one of the KSE Open House events. In the rest, the general rules, also appropriate to a regular job interview, should apply.

Some of the full and partial scholarships offered by KSE are provided by our corporate sponsors. This is a special honor to receive such scholarship, since a student is specially selected by a selection committee with the representative of the corporate sponsors, and is recognized as awardee of a special scholarship named after the corporate sponsor. The corporate scholarships can be provided instead or in addition to the regular full and partial scholarships, and the number of full scholarships offered to the students may exceed the number of scholarships initially offered by the School. In the current year, special corporate scholarships are offered by Dragon Capital, Citibank and SimCorp.

School’s alumni also collect donations and provide a special Alumni Scholarship to the most successful student.

Some students have opportunity to work part-time at the School at the positions not related to the economic education process. Such positions include Library and IT Assistants, as well the Assistants to the Development Department. Six to eight positions a year usually open to the second-year students.

KSE also assists students in obtaining full or part-time internship positions during the summer, which could continue during the second year of study and lead to a full-time employment in the future.

KSE Donors’ Contribution

The real cost of providing education at the KSE is €10,000 a year, but Ukrainian students automatically receive a scholarship in the amount of €7,000 which is funded by the KSE donors.
