I HAVE BEEN greatly encouraged of

late when reviewing from my journal records some of the ‘words and promises’ the Lord has spoken to my wife and me over the years. Many have come to pass, while others are still to happen. Those still before us make us aware that our race is not yet over. Many years back, when we started out on our mission journey of faith, choosing to sell everything and move to Asia with two small babies in our arms was an act of obedience to His words and promises to our hearts. We drew great strength and encouragement from the book of Joshua, in particular chapter one, where he too was starting out in his new leadership role. Not only did God choose Joshua (1:1) – as He has chosen you and me – He also assured him that he was not alone (v 5), and commanded him to be strong and courageous (v 6), to be obedient (v 7), to daily read and meditate on the Word (v 8) and not to be afraid (v 9). A great platform to build on for one’s service to the Lord.Towards the end of Joshua’s life, he looks back and declares, “Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed” (23:14). Wow! The Lord’s integrity and character can be trusted! When driving recently, we saw a bright and beautiful rainbow appear in the sky just as the rain was easing. As it began to fade, it was suddenly replaced by an even brighter and bigger second rainbow. We know that the Lord told

decisions have been made to see His purposes come to fruition through WOI. More than twelve years later, we can look back and see the Lord was good to His word, with tens of thousands of unreached people having since invited Jesus Christ into their hearts and lives. Let us not be distracted by all the anarchy, religious strife, political inaptness and economic uncertainty that prevails in the world today. Rather, let’s look back at the Lord’s faithfulness, and then declare and hold onto the words and promises He has spoken to our hearts that remain yet unfulfilled. For just as the rainbow reminds us that God has kept His promise not to flood the earth again, He can also be trusted to fulfil His promises we hold dear to our hearts.

Noah in Genesis 9:11-18 that He promised never to send a flood to destroy the earth again, and as a sign of His promise would send a rainbow to remind him (and us) of His promise. I hope that you, like us, are encouraged to look back and see what the Lord has done, and are yet even more excited about His words and promises that are still to come to pass. For World Outreach International, the word of the Lord resonated in our hearts last year when it was declared that the ministry was coming into a season of accelerated growth, that a harvest would happen not only in fields where we are already working, but also in fields we have not yet sown in. These words and others the Holy Spirit has spoken to our hearts have inspired my WOI colleagues and me to make plans accordingly, so as to facilitate what the Lord said He would do. Just as importantly, His words and promises to us have influenced our prayer life as well, as we declare and claim these yet to be realised promises, in order for His kingdom to expand even further. Back in 2003 at a gathering of WOI leaders in South Africa, the Holy Spirit spoke that the organisation’s future major focus was to be ‘Impacting least reached (ethnic) people groups with the Gospel of Jesus Christ’. With that word pulsating in our hearts ever since,

JOB SKILLS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

WE ARE STARTING a new venture to help give job skills to the younger generation of Egyptians. Our vision is to see young people working in jobs and even starting up their own businesses. After the political revolution in 2011, there was a serious economic crisis in Egypt. We faced many issues like a 25 percent unemployment rate and many students graduating school with no computer skills, secondary language skills or craft. On top of that, our population continues to grow quickly. We feel led to help with this increasing

need. We plan to train in the areas of hair dressing, hair cutting, shaving, fixing air conditioners and repairing mobile phones, computers and other electronics. Our plan is to also provide courses that teach computer skills and secondary languages, while at the same time taking every opportunity to share and represent Jesus. Please pray for the success of our training centre and for God to establish this new ministry.

WE THANK THE LORD as He continues to give us opportunities to reach out to the girls in the bars. Our relationships with them continue to grow. We celebrate as two Mama-sangs accepted Christ! This is a huge breakthrough as Mama-sangs are the women in charge of all the girls in the bar. They basically control the girls and tell them what they can and cannot do. We praise the Lord for the salvation of the two Mama-sangs! We are now

We want to acknowledge the prayers and support of all those from around the world. Thank you for being a part of Rahab Ministries and this wonderful journey we are on.

They have also grown in faith. None of them knew much about God when they arrived at BFM but, like the plants they look after, have been putting down roots in God’s Word and sprouting. Gaw loves to read his Bible, ever since receiving one. They will be great role models for new students coming to stay at BFM on 10 May, as the four boys begin their final year of high school. We look forward to their continuing growth as leaders who are faithful and joyful in serving others.

WE HAVE ENJOYED seeing the development of four of the older boys at Baan Faa Mai – Gaw, Danai, Joe and Sumet, who are all very responsible young lads. Gaw and Danai have shown initiative and enthusiasm in tending to the garden area after school – irrigating, composting and encouraging growth of the fruit trees and vegetables. All four are also among our keenest conversational English learners. English hasn’t been easy for them, but they have persevered and are starting to reap the benefits of not giving up.

Patricia GreenA Tribute To

An unassuming woman who accomplished great things for God

ON 19 MARCH, our World

Outreach International colleague and friend Patricia Green passed away at the age of 77. She had travelled from her base in Germany to New Zealand last October to attend a conference, visit some partnering churches and friends and take a break, with the plan to return to Europe in January. Unfortunately Patricia began experiencing pain and great discomfort toward the end of 2014, and subsequent medical tests revealed she had terminal cancer. She was told she had a few weeks to live.

The eulogies and tributes shared at her funeral confirmed again and again that Patricia was a unique and very special woman of God. She was born in Wellington, NZ, and her father died when she was seven. In her late teens, she moved north to the city of Hamilton, and took a job with a mobile bus library, which provided service to rural communities. In 1969 she attended Faith Bible College in NZ, and then returned to Hamilton where she and a friend established Landmark, a refuge for homeless girls. In 1986, after her mother passed away, Patricia went back to university to complete her studies.

When hearing a missionary speak in a local church about huge poverty issues

in South East Asia, Patricia’s heart was greatly stirred and challenged. Single, passionate for Jesus and with a burden for the underprivileged, Patricia left NZ and moved to Thailand at the age of 47. After a couple of years of working and ministering in various Bangkok slums, Patricia was burdened to help rescue young girls and women who had been sold by their parents or trafficked into prostitution and the sex industry. In 1988 Rahab Ministries was founded in Patpong, Bangkok.

In 2006, after leaving the Rahab Ministries team in the hands of good leadership oversight, Patricia relocated to Berlin, Germany, where she founded a similar ministry called Alabaster Jar.

The effects of Patricia’s ministry reach far beyond the bases in Bangkok and Berlin. Most years her schedule included invitations to speak in both secular and Christian forums on behalf of women at risk. Her experience, wisdom and knowledge were much sought after in both developing and first world nations.

Some likened Patricia and the ministry of her respective teams in Bangkok and Berlin to those who ‘minister on the doorstep of hell.’ It is an ugly, dark and spiritually oppressive world, where Patricia and team members faced great opposition, discouragement, threats

and disappointments. Yet the success of seeing one person one week, then another a week or two later, and so on, seek refuge and help, and in turn surrender their lives to Christ, caused the positives to far outweigh any negatives. Literally hundreds of girls and women have been rescued from the sex industry, have heard and received the Gospel message, and are now followers of Jesus Christ.

Patricia’s legacy carries on! Her newly published book, Roses in the Red Light, will no doubt inspire people to pray, and even get involved in such ministry. Her training manuals will continue to offer wonderful insights and understanding in how to make an eternal difference in the face of great odds. We in WOI will do all we can to help keep the candle that Patricia lit burning, so many more abused and enslaved girls and women can be rescued from the clutches of darkness and bondage.

SURACHARD FIRST HEARD about Jesus when the Good News Team went to his school. He said he couldn’t believe anyone really loved him, but wanted it so much. He began the Team’s correspondence Bible lessons. Now, fifteen years later, Surachard teaches in youth outreaches. He wrote, “I use your Bible lessons to teach, but I always emphasise how much Jesus loves us all. Most kids have never felt loved. I’m always excited to see their lives changed when they turn to Jesus.”

Our Team goes to as many of these Buddhist schools as we can, but know we don’t go alone. We are aware of many going with us through your prayers. And this year we’re seeing more answers. We just reached 2,800 children in ten schools in northeast Thailand. All week we saw a greater response than ever before. One teacher likened our message to preparing children’s hearts and planting good seeds. Many of these Buddhist teachers asked, “Please come back

regularly”. Thanks for your part in this through your prayers. Please pray for more Team members, so we can take advantage of opportunities like these.

WE ARE EXCITED to announce that we have recently opened our café and ministry centre. This project is a key strategy for our church plant in Chankasem, Bangkok. We have opened the café and ministry centre next to our local university and God has truly blessed us and paved the way for this endeavour. We have been able to open on a very small budget and have been blessed with wonderful staff and the help of generous Christian tradesmen who have helped us tremendously in the setting up.

We believe that this café and ministry centre will give us the opportunity to build natural relationships and credibility within the community and provide opportunities to share the Gospel.

GOD HAS SHOWN me clearly what I am to do. He told me to evangelise, make disciples, train and equip the younger generation, and to church plant. I have learned that I am not to ask God, “What should I do”, because God has already told me what to do. Rather,

ONE OF THE THINGS we

consistently hear at the end of the seminars we run is: ‘We attend lots of seminars, but these are completely different. They’re relevant to our context, practical in their nature and doable.’

This leads to the question: What are we, in WOI, doing that makes our seminars so effective? I’ve had to reflect on this to understand the answer myself. Here are some of my conclusions.

Firstly, we always seek to work with a key partner on the ground. We do not do our own

thing. We always partner with a key leader in the nation. We serve what is already happening. In this way, the seminar is ‘owned’ and the material can be followed up, contextualised and retaught by the partner.

Secondly, we don’t have a one-size-fits-all approach to the seminars. We go and listen to

the leaders’ needs first, then tailor the topics and speakers accordingly. We’ve found it takes at least one visit before we really get an understanding of the unique leadership needs of the culture and context.

Thirdly, the speakers we use are all practitioners. They are all active in pastoral ministry or

have extensive experience. This means they know what they’re taking about and can relate to pastors because of common experiences.

Fourthly, the material is framed to be as practical as possible. We endeavour to boil the content

down to the basic, biblical principle, and not irrelevant western methodology. We often have discussion sessions where the pastors / leaders discuss among themselves how the material can be applied in their context.

Fifthly, wherever possible, we draw the examples and anecdotes from things familiar to their culture and

context, not just the western world. This, too, has been highly effective in communication.

Sixthly, we always get the outlines and PowerPoints translated into the local language (e.g. Arabic,

French, Portuguese). This helps with communication, but also gives the leaders something to take with them as a resource.

Finally, we make time for the Holy Spirit to minister to their lives. We consistently witness great moves

of the Holy Spirit as we pray for and minister to the pastors and leaders. Our goal is to build and bless.

DAY 6 John and Mary Elliott • SINGAPORE

The Holy Spirit spoke to us about the year ahead, saying that not only would WOI ministries see an increased harvest in nations where we are already sowing, but that He would also open doors for harvesting in nations we have not yet sown in. Pray with us that the Lord of the harvest

will not only clearly make a way, but also raise up the necessary resources of manpower and finances. Pray too for divine protection to be on WOI personnel.

DAY 1 Kevin and Jeh Sie Chan • THAILAND

We are looking at introducing life simulation type games to Thailand. These games are targeted at young people with the intention of provoking questions about the meaning of life. Please pray for God to bring together the initial batch of facilitators and attendees for this exciting new outreach venture.

DAY 2 Donna Elliott • JAPAN

Language school is a great mission field too! Praise God for Rima from Indonesia, who has recently invited Jesus into her heart! Please also pray that the Lord will help me in this window of opportunity, to shine His light to the other students representing many nations in my Japanese language school.

DAY 3 Ben and Rachel Brooks • S-E ASIA

Please pray for our trip to the States this June-July. Pray the Lord will open new doors for us to share what God is doing in Asia and for more partners to join us in reaching Least Reached Peoples. Pray for a restful and meaningful time with our families as we connect with them. Thank you for your faithful prayers.

DAY 7 Tomba Khoisnam • INDIA

Please pray for a church planters’ upskilling programme in Manipur province in late June. Approximately fifty church planters will be attending. Please pray that they will be refreshed spiritually and also be sharpened in their skills for ministering to nonbelievers.

DAY 4 John and Nok P • THAILAND

Statistically, twelve people in Thailand commit suicide every day. Through our evangelism and church planting ministry, we are mobilising new believers to pray that people who are contemplating ending their lives will get to hear the Good News, and come to know Jesus as the Way, the Truth and the Life. Pray with us as we call

on the Lord to lead Christians to those who have no hope. Pray that Jesus will be the centre of every Thai life and family.

DAY 5 Mun Heng and Cecilia Au Yong • MALAYSIA

We thank the Lord for good key national partners in three strategic countries who have been called with a vision to engage in reaching LRPs in their respective nations. Please pray for Dil (Nepal), Hemanta (India) and Maqbool (Pakistan) as they run

with the vision that God has given them. Pray also for us as we look at raising the support needed for their ministry, so that His mission will be fulfilled.

DAY 8 Danny and Ruby Bayasen • BURKINA FASO

Please keep us, our family and co-workers in much prayer as we travel out to share the Gospel with Least Reached People groups throughout the country. Pray with us that we will be clearly led of the Lord to those whose hearts He has

prepared to hear and receive His Word. Pray too that signs and wonders will follow the sharing of the Word of God.

DAY 9 Wanna Jaiou (Doi), Good News Team • THAILAND

The Good News team will establish a training course this year for young Thai people who want to help Thai children know Jesus. Please pray for our team as they teach and convey vision to them. We pray that after this training, they can

bring their skills to their churches. May God call many of these trainees into children’s ministry.

DAY 10 Janvier and Claudine Yokoinele • IVORY COAST

The owner of the property we rent for the A.C.E. School in Abidjan wants to sell, and has offered us a special below-market price. We have until the end of June to pay. The problem is, we don’t have the funds! For the past eight years, the Lord has provided

for this ground-breaking school in West Africa. Pray with us that His will be done concerning the future of the school and the property.

Please pray for us as we continue to serve and resource WOI personnel in Asia and Australia with oversight, training and coaching. Pray for the guidance and anointing of the Holy Spirit as we encourage and relate to these who faithfully serve God, that we would be both a blessing and assistance to them. Pray for our safety as we travel.

DAY 12 Carl and Gail Musch • AUSTRALIA

After 26 years in this field, we are now seeing Australian Aboriginal groups we work with rapidly growing from 12-50 believers to 80-300. We need God’s grace, resources and wisdom to train a different kind of leadership to retain growth and disciple such numbers of new believers. Please pray with us.

DAY 13 Sam and Carol Soukotta • INDONESIA

The governor of Jakarta, Basuki Purnama, is a born again Christian who is committed to wiping out corruption, but is being opposed by political corruptors in Jakarta. The Indonesian people are standing with him. Indonesian churches are backing him up with prayer. Pray that God will give him

wisdom and understanding in how deal with this situation.

DAY 18 Allen and Charlotte Teal• NEW ZEALAND

We’ve just been in Thailand getting to know the students in the Nations course, which was followed by the Child Safety Seminar and the WOI Global Conference. It was good to have people assist us in member care over this time. We’d

appreciate ongoing prayer as we develop a team to work with us in the different regions. Finding the right people with caring hearts and a good listening ear is key to success in this area.

DAY 20 Joseph and Amie Dayamba • BURKINA FASO

Please pray for the Evangelism Crusade this July among the Fulani, the Gourmanthe and other ethnic groups. Also pray for a mission mobilisation camp for 300 young people this August. We also ask that you pray God’s protection and good health be on us and our family as we minister here in West Africa.

DAY 19 Angela Stephens • KENYA

Pray for Isaac, Felix and the men in my Firestarters group, who are stepping out in boldness to share their faith with others. Pray that they grow in the prophetic and words of knowledge as they pray healing for people and do power evangelism. Pray for their protection, for souls and for the miraculous.

DAY 17 Paul and Sue Fosse • MOZAMBIQUE

We thank the Lord for 26 years in Mozambique and that our two sons have been blessed with opportunities to study in the USA: Baden in Mission Aviation, and Kyle in Digital Media & Theatre. Please pray God opens a way for us to visit Kyle (soon to turn 21), whom we have not seen for two years.

DAY 14 Nathan and Sawsan Bassaly • EGYPT

This July/August, a school of ministry will train fifty 18-25 year olds from many different churches. We pray that they will return home and influence their peers and others. Please pray for God’s presence to be powerful among us, and that these young people will have a multiplying effect on others when they return to their churches.

DAY 15 Max and Dorothy Chismon • PHILIPPINES

Please pray for our conference to be held 21-24 September in Chiang Mai, Thailand. It will launch our Simply Mobilising movement. This movement has grown out of the Kairos course movement and reflects the journey God has been taking us on over the past 21 years.

DAY 16 Peter and Bev van der Westhuyzen • GENERATION MINISTRIES

Praise God for recent developments: India – Outreach centre building to Hindu refugees is being extended. Myanmar – Work begun on new hostel kitchen. Peter’s good health lately and improvements in Bev’s health. Pray for next three months (twelve training

events in India/Cambodia/Vietnam). Pray for ten outreach events planned in Vietnam and Myanmar. Cambodia – for wisdom on how to proceed with new partners there.

DAY 26 Chris and Nadine Brittain • KENYA

Praise the Lord for some Kenyan Kairos Head Facilitators who are hearing the call to full-time mission mobilisation! Pray that they will obey the Lord and hear from Him how to develop effective strategies to raise support in a context where there is little or no precedent for this.

DAY 21 Kanchana Karaya • THAILAND

Please pray that God will strengthen and encourage our Kairos team as we mobilise the Thai church for mission. Our goal is to send 35 Thai missionaries to do evangelism and church planting among Least Reached People groups in our region. Please also pray for the Kairos courses that are regularly

running, that Thai believers will be equipped and empowered to answer God’s call to mission.

DAY 27 David and Peniel Elliott • S-E ASIA

We are encouraged with the different opportunities before us to train and disciple today’s younger generation of new believers in different nations. Pray with us for a bold and fearless army of disciples to be raised up, who will go and take this life-transforming message to their peers. Pray for favour as we

apply for visas that will allow us to enter some Gospel ‘closed’ nations.

DAY 29 Alastair and Rachel • S-E ASIA

We have both settled in Asia well! Alastair has made a great start in his counselling studies, and Rachel is well underway managing WOI Communications. Please pray as we seek the Lord on creative ways to communicate the need to reach the Least Reached. Pray that a team of volunteers be developed to aid this task.

DAY 30 Jan-Willem and Marlinde Tamminga • INDONESIA

Our family will shortly be relocating back to Holland for an indefinite season. It will be difficult to leave the children and ministry team at New Hope Ministries in West Kalimantan, who have been a huge part of our lives. Please keep us in prayer, especially

for wisdom to knowing the Lord’s leading as we re-establish the family and our lives back ‘home’.

DAY 28 Vijaya Chowdhuri • BANGLADESH

I would appreciate prayer for my health. Recently I was hospitalised in Bangkok while doctors did a series of tests. Pray also for the ministry of CDC, that we know the Lord’s leading regarding future direction, and do keep the present student body and teachers in prayer as we go into the second half of

the year. Pray too for nationwide Holy Spirit visitation.

DAY 22 Rod and Lynley Talbot • SOUTH AFRICA

Please continue to pray for us in our expanded role as Regional Directors for Africa and the Middle East. Pray for favour and wisdom as we network and meet with new contacts, discussing how WOI can make a difference in assisting them in these new regions.

DAY 23 Roger and Vivienne Latham • AUSTRALIA

Please pray for the completion of the God’s Dreaming art project, a tool for indigenous teams to reach out to others in Australia. Also pray for the completion of work on the camp we are developing for a variety of events and workshops, and for our need of administration help. Thank you.

DAY 24 Stephanie Herron • MOZAMBIQUE

Please pray for our second-year students who are going on their first missions trip to Northern Mozambique. It is a big challenge for them to step outside their comfort zone and reach out to people outside their own tribe, language and culture. Pray for open doors, wisdom, safety and the Spirit’s guidance.

DAY 25 Duncan and Lindie Ross • S-E ASIA

Kairos is taking on new avenues this year. We are using new God-breathed strategies in our ministries and believe this will lead to a larger harvest. We trust for greater wisdom, anointing and guidance on this journey forward.

DAY 31 Owen and Glynis Willows • S-E ASIA

We experienced some challenging times in the first few months of 2015, and thank the Lord for His protection and provision. Such experiences reinforced the ongoing need for faithful prayer partners and intercessors as we move into the second half of the year. Please keep us in prayer along with

the ongoing training of church planters in Cambodia.

AN INDIAN PASSPORT is not

an easy passport to travel with. The dramas that come with it are aplenty. Despite all that, both my passports are filled with stamps I’ve accumulated over the last several months of travelling. But these are more than just stamps – they are stories! They represent the lives of people we’ve had the privilege to meet. From Thailand: A kiwi couple who speak fluent Thai invest in a generation of Thai young people. Another couple, dearly missing their children, serve in a small village. Still a third couple raise two little girls in a foreign land while running a café ministry to impact local university students. Meanwhile his parents are trying to build a gate and make a safe home for him and his baby brother!I was amazed and inspired by every single one of these lives we came across. As different as they were, they all had one thing in common. They have all left their homes, their language, their culture, and their safe and comfortable lives to be where they are now. And in the midst of the admiration I felt, I couldn’t help but hear this question: Why?! I don’t think I’d do justice answering that question. But watching them love the people they are there for, seeing their passion and dedication in the midst of the seemingly endless challenges and knowing the fruit and value of their presence there, I’d say, why not? And that’s a question you can ask yourself today.

Are Teenagers The Church of Tomorrow?

SOME CONTENT IS MISSING DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS FOR THE MINISTRY LEADERS

“JOSIAH WAS eight years old when he

became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem thirty-one years … He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and walked in all the ways of his father David, not turning aside to the right or the left.” – 2 Kings 22:1-2Have you ever heard people say, “Teenagers are the church of tomorrow”? This trendy statement isn’t exactly true. The truth is, God is at work, depositing His Spirit in young people all over the world. He

where they are.In 1 Timothy 4:12 the Apostle Paul encourages Timothy to not let anyone look down on him because he is young, but to set an example in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity. While we often read this as if it is purely an encouragement to the young person, it is also an encouragement to those of us who are older. We are not to look down on our young people, but see them as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to the Lord. How important it is to validate them, disciple them and commission them into ministry!

Their lives are being miraculously transformed and their testimonies are powerful and effective!World Outreach International recognise the need to reach the young people amongst Least Reached People groups. They are privileged to be hosting Adolescent Camps for their young people. Unafraid of teens and their, at times, quirky behaviours, They have taken up the call to “Train up a child in the way he should go” (Proverbs 22:6). Recognising the unique place the teenagers are in, both physically and emotionally, allows them to have open doors to effectively communicate the Gospel. During their camps, they cover topics such as leading a moral life, purity, healthy relationships with parents, HIV/AIDS, staying safe and love and lust. Going “Cross-cultural with age,” The camps use games, worship and group discussions to meet the young, people

A WONDERFUL PRAYER movement is spreading among Japanese young people. The Lord has awakened them to the unreached. One of the most influential young leaders has just gone to Myanmar long-term with his family to disciple a Least Reached People group there. Both he and other leaders are very clear that the special place that God has prepared for them is Shulam, the Turkic belt in Central Asia. Watch this space! God is raising up a new generation of “made in Japan” missionaries!

We have just been to Shulam with a prayer team of young Japanese pastors. What a joy to pray and worship with them in the midst of such darkness and oppression, believing that as we praise the Lord, we are piercing the heavens and preparing the way for Him to come with love and salvation. Our on-the-ground team reports their friend coming to Christ and sharing her new faith with friends and family. Open the heavens in Shulam, Lord!

YESTERDAY, I LISTENED to a

genuinely profound and helpful eighty-minute teaching message. But I’m afraid that, in a week’s time, very little will be left in the hearts and minds of the hungry young Japanese people who also listened to it. This isn’t a reflection on the excellent content! But what about the teaching method? I need to reflect on how much “teaching” I do and how little learning takes place when I “teach”. When a friend shows interest in the Gospel, most people say, “Come to church”. Even after ten or twenty years in church, being taught, they are not confident to share the Gospel themselves and lead that friend to Christ. When a new believer comes to Christ and asks about baptism or receiving the Holy Spirit, they call the pastor or enrol them in a follow-class.

Can we identify and focus on a few? Jesus taught the crowds but discipled just a few.

Can we make sure our

teaching content is simple, doable and maddeningly repetitive? Till our friends really do it.

Can I work harder on

two-way communication? I learn from my student as we explore faith and obedience together. Impossible in most of our teaching settings!

Let’s aim obsessively to develop a chain reaction, where our students

quickly disciples others. When we verify that they’re obeying what we have shared and passing it on to the next generation of followers, we can rejoice that we have taught effectively. I believe strongly in what I have just written, that it’s what Jesus modelled

and told us to do – but I still do so much more “teaching” than

discipling. I wonder why!

When their friend is sick, they call someone “mature” to pray for them. Most people are not confident enough to explain those truths or pray themselves, nor to disciple a new believer. In spite of all our teaching!I may crisscross the earth teaching but am I really making disciples? So what does discipling look like? A few suggestions to get us started:

Discipling does not take place in a superficial relationship or a

classroom setting but when we share our lives in an ongoing context. Over meals, on trips, sharing ministry, praying and playing together. Can we build that

into our lives more?

A CURE FOR ALLERGIES

NEVER SAY NEVER

MY NAME IS Esther and I come from Germany. I am staying at the Myriam Wahr House in Mossuril. When I arrived, I could see the ceiling in the house was covered in mold. I am very allergic to mold. I knew I wouldn’t be able to stay long if I did not receive a miracle, so I prayed. Miraculously God answered my prayer, and I have no allergies at all! We serve a wonderful God.

TO EVANGELISE THE Nahara is daunting! They are 500,000 strong with only five missionary couples reaching out to them. There are no churches or Bibles. They live in remote coastal areas with only the sea and bush paths to access them.

Some say the Nahara are only good to fish, practice witchcraft and steal and that they will never be Christians because they are already Muslim. However, we know differently. A timely, financial donation made possible the purchase of an hour of radio broadcast time each week. We are now broadcasting anointed material across 300 km of Nahara coastline!

A L IFE TRANSFORMED

ESPERANCA WAS A healthy nineteen year old, who joyfully walked fifteen kilometres each day to school. Then suddenly she became paralysed and couldn’t speak. Doctors said she would never walk again, but Esperanca refused to give up and determinedly started walking again using two sticks. But then she had another attack.

Her dreams were shattered when she couldn’t continue school, so her parents brought her to Maziotela Ministries. For more than two years, many faithful prayer partners have been praying for Esperanca. Through this time Esperanca

has really grown in her faith and learnt to hear clearly from God. She always tries to serve others, despite her own weakness.

Today Esperanca is healed and is an amazing young lady who truly shines, knowing that her very life is a miracle. Many more lives are now being touched as Esperanca devotedly serves with us: Laurinda was bitten by a snake and left to die, but Esperanca cared for her and is now discipling her. Louisa was dying of AIDS and her family wouldn’t even wash her wounds, but Esperanca walked eleven hours to

find water to bathe her. Esperanca’s life is such a testimony, speaking loudly of God’s power to save others as He has saved her!

We also experienced breakthrough with Muslim fishermen who met with us after their salat prayers. The men were open to hear the creation story. Due to their Arabic background, they are interested in discussions and deeply enjoy spiritual debate. Their only condition for us was that we come back the next day to discuss further. We see yet another miracle: people who are apparently closed to the Gospel are suddenly quite open!

THIS FIRST QUARTER of 2015 has been filled with Africa. In January, through clear guidance, I made an exploratory trip to South Sudan. It may come as a surprise, but the most common command God gave people in Scripture was: ‘Do not fear.’ Why? God knows our human nature and its propensity to fear. FEARPROOF will help you discover: + How to unmask, identify and define fear so we can deal with it + How to limit the damage that fear seeks to do to us + How to reject fear in our life + How to no longer live with debilitating fear + How to confront and face fear with tenacity and determination.

PRISONERS IN THEIR OWN HOME

ANNIE AND LINA are on fire for Jesus. Their family began to persecute them soon after they were baptised. They were not allowed to attend church or any meetings. When people from church visited them in their home, the family would curse them. Annie and Lina were treated like prisoners in their own home.

Danny and Ruby Bayasan, BURKINA FASO • Ministry Leaders equipping church leaders and members. world-outreach.com/people/danny-ruby-bayasen

We began to pray for Annie and Lina. During one of the prayer meetings, the Holy Spirit reminded us of the story of Peter when he was in prison and the angel of the Lord rescued him. We prayed that both Annie and Lina would be rescued just as Peter was. After a month had passed, Annie came by the church with her brother. With tears

of joy she shared how her unsaved brother was supporting her. That same night he gave his life to Jesus. When Annie and her brother arrived home, their mother met them at the door. She too had visited a local church and given her life to the Lord. Hallelujah!

The effects of the powerful earthquake that struck Nepal on 25 April are still being felt. More than 10,000 lives were lost and twice that many injured. Homes and livelihoods of tens of thousands have been destroyed.

Hundreds of thousands of people are homeless. In one valley in the capital Kathmandu, surviving residents of 61,000 damaged buildings have had to sleep elsewhere. They now live under tarpaulins in parks and open fields. Survivors describe the aftermath with phrases such as utter devastation, unimaginable chaos and total despair.

World Outreach International has been actively involved with the Nepali people (both in Nepal and North East India) for more than fifteen years, both in cities and in the rural areas among Least Reached People groups. Today, in partnership with other relief groups, WOI teams are working to provide practical relief on both fronts. But the challenge is great, as the needs are huge.

Funds are urgently needed now to buy basic humanitarian items such as clean drinking water, tarpaulin, tents, rice, noodles, sugar, salt, cooking utensils, bedding, clothing and medical supplies. As resources allow, building materials will also be required on this long and arduous road of recovery.

Will you help? Your partnership will allow urgently needed supplies to be given out to surviving families, and in turn give them a sense of hope and encouragement for the future. You can help make a big difference!

Donations can be made to: World Outreach International and designated “Nepal Earthquake Relief,” then forwarded to your nearest WOI Country Office (listed on pg 2).
