The Gardens
You may have noticed our
Dipsacus Fullonum is thriving.
Dipsacus Fullonum, also
known as “Teasel”, is a four-
to-six feet high plant and is
near omnipresent around our
property. As charming as the
teasel is, it is considered an
invasive species. Teasel seeds
were inadvertently brought from Europe during the 1700's and the
plant has proliferated throughout the United States, especially the
mid-west, since that time. In order to encourage the growth of
native Illinois grasses and flowers, we will be mowing large areas
around our property during the coming weeks, to begin eradicating
the invasive crop. Do you know one of the most exciting practices
for helping a prairie to thrive? Setting a prairie fire!! Perhaps
we’ll call the Crystal Lake Fire Department!
Happy THRIVING!
Mike Gamache, Executive Director
NativePlants! Most people have experienced back pain
sometime in their lives. The causes of
back pain are numerous; some are self-
inflicted due to a lifetime of bad habits.
Other back pain causes include accidents
and muscle strains. Although the causes
may be different, most often they share
the same symptoms. Our spines are like
the rest of our body, it's meant to move.
Regular exercise can keep you and your
back more flexible. We offer a variety of
exercise classes such as, Chair Yoga with
Denise, Tai Chi with Allison, and Strength
Training classes with either Dave, Selena
or Denise. So, make sure to check the
calendar with all the listings/times. If
you have more questions about back
pain, come see Nurse Lynn's
Presentation, on Wednesday, August 14,
at 1:00pm.
Path to Well-Being
The Fountains is always looking for new and innovated programs to
introduce to our Residents. One Day is a program that brings families closer
together, with videos of your loved ones that we send to you. We have
been sharing videos to many families already and the responses have been
overwhelmingly positive. There are a variety of topics that we interview
your loved ones with, which can range from current life happenings to
things in their past, that some of their families never even knew
about! Each month, One Day, changes out the questions to give a nice
variety to share with all of you! If you would like to have your family
member interviewed, to have this wonderful reminder of your loved one,
please contact Gina at ext. 6582. Please also make sure the front desk has
a current email address to be able to send the video to you.
