You may have noticed our

Dipsacus Fullonum is thriving.

Dipsacus Fullonum, also

known as “Teasel”, is a four-

to-six feet high plant and is

near omnipresent around our

property. As charming as the

teasel is, it is considered an

invasive species. Teasel seeds

were inadvertently brought from Europe during the 1700's and the

plant has proliferated throughout the United States, especially the

mid-west, since that time. In order to encourage the growth of

native Illinois grasses and flowers, we will be mowing large areas

around our property during the coming weeks, to begin eradicating

the invasive crop. Do you know one of the most exciting practices

for helping a prairie to thrive? Setting a prairie fire!! Perhaps

we’ll call the Crystal Lake Fire Department!
