ChoColate Calms emotionsChocolate can indeed assuage emotional stress, accord-ing to a new clinical trial. Researchers reporting to the American Chemical Society found that “highly stressed” volunteers, eating about an ounce-and-a-half (about 40 grams) of dark chocolate a day for two weeks, experi-enced reduced levels of stress hormones. The chocolate even partially corrected other stress-related biochemi-cal imbalances by modifying metabolism.
A c u - De toxAcu-Detox is a safe and ef-
fective supplement to any existing type of addiction therapy or smoking cessation program, including 12 step programs, outpa-tient therapy, and inpatient care. Acu-Detox is a specific pro-tocol within auricular acupunc-ture that decreases cravings for tobacco, alcohol and other drugs, decreases withdrawal symptoms, decreases anxiety and improves sleep. It is especially helpful for people who are in early detox, who have difficulty managing cravings, anxiety and insomnia, who have co-occurring mood disorders and who have relapsed following a period of abstinence. At five designated points in each ear, NADA (Natural Acu-puncture Detoxification Associa-tion) trained clinicians apply fine gauge, sterilized, one-time use stainless steel needles, where they remain for 30-45 min-utes while you relax quietly in a comfortable chair. People in all types of treatment settings can utilize this treatment. Most see improvement in recovery with longer periods of abstinence and shorter relapses. Acu-detox utilizes principles of both Chinese medicine and Western chemical dependency therapies to bring significant benefits to those in the process of recovery from all forms of drug addiction, as well as ciga-rette smoking, alcoholism and a variety of mental disorders.
Barbara Zielinski, ADS, of-fers Acu-Detox out of her office at 233 Washington, Suite 208 in Grand Haven or she is available to provide this treatment for groups who are already meeting elsewhere. She can be reached at 616-502-2078 or [email protected]. You can also learn more about Acu-Detox at NADA’s web site www.acudetox.com

Laughter is the human gift
for coping and for survival;
ringing, pealing, roaring,
bubbling laughter. Chuck-
ling. Giggling. Snickering.
Snorting. These are the
sounds of soul-saving laugh-
ter that springs from our
emotional core and helps
us feel better, see things
more clearly and creatively
weigh and use our options.
Laughter helps us roll with
the punches that inevitably
come our way. We unleash
the power of laughter every
time we laugh.

Gary Cools, PhD Naturopathy, DAc
Across the country people are “stapling” ears for weight loss. It appears to work, but there have been reports of ear infections that caused us concern when we researched this.So we made our own system safer. We do a full piercing in a precise revised location, & it appears to be working. The cost including the gold jewelry, spheres on a post like a barbell, is $80. People report losing ½ to 1½ pounds a week by simply having a full feeling earlier in the course of eating a meal. There aren’t any guarantees here but the program is getting results.
