“The biggest challenge is to not be affected by praise because a lot of it is not from the heart. Being true to yourself about your strengths and weaknesses, when everyone out there has a strong opinion and wants to give advice, is another challenge.”

The value of wisdom
• What is wisdom? Expert knowledge in the fundamentals of life, and in the conduct and meaning of life.
• “Wise people” are presumed to have developed:• An integrated personality
• Exceptional maturity
• Superior judgment skills in difficult life matters
• Ability to cope with life’s unpleasant circumstances.
• Wisdom can be a key aspect of how people get through tough times.
“Values” are what we find meaningful in life. • They are the most important things to us.• Everyone has different values, and for each
of us they can change over time.• They are like a compass, pointing us in the
direction we want to go. • During periods of challenge, relying on our
core values is important to help get us through choppy waters.

The four fallacies that inhibit wise actions
The Egocentrism Fallacy
• Thinking that the world revolves, or at least should revolve, around you. Acting in ways that benefit yourself, regardless of how that behavior affects others.
The Omniscience Fallacy
• Believing that you know all there is to know and therefore don’t have to listen to the advice and counsel of others.
The Omnipotence Fallacy
• Believing that your intelligence and education somehow make you all-powerful.
The Invulnerability Fallacy
• Believing that you can do whatever you want and that others will never be able to hurt you or expose you.

What is resilience?
Resilience: How well a person can adapt to the events in their life.
• A person with good resilience has the ability to bounce back more quickly and with less stress than someone whose resilience is less developed.

Quick tool: Solving problems
S (Select) — Select the problem. Identify the specific issue that you want to solve.
O (Options) — Generate as many options as you can. Don’t evaluate them yet —just list them out.
L (Likely outcome) — Rate the likely outcome of each option as positive, negative or both.
V (Very best option) — Pick the very best option. This should be one rated positively. You can combine multiple options.
E (Evaluate) — Evaluate how well your solution worked. Did you achieve your desired goal? If not, return to your options and choose another.
