Introduction......
Welcome to the Navisworks Diocles Preview Guide! This document provides a quick summary of the
new features and enhancements that are included in our 2010 beta release. We hope that you will
find the guide informative, but more importantly that you find the improvements to the product
useful!
A full help guide for all of the product features will be available with the release of our 2010 product.
For this beta release only some of the features are fully documented. This preview guide indicates
the features that have full help entries.
Not all of the features described in this guide are available in all Navisworks products. Some will only
be available in Manage, Simulate or Review. The guide will indicate the products that offer each
feature.
We hope that you will be participating in the Navisworks Beta programme. Please remember to fully
review the README documentation before installing the beta products.
Many thanks, and we look forward to your feedback...

Navisworks 2010 Product Enhancements
1 User Interface
Changes to the Navisworks interface more closely align Manage, Simulate, Review and Freedom with
Autodesk standard interface and navigation toolsets.
1.1 ViewCube
The ViewCube is an on-screen widget, shaped like a cube, that rotates as you orbit your 3D scene
and provides you with feedback about your current camera viewing angle in relation to the model
world.
The ViewCube also provides a clickable interface to switch between views. For example, clicking on
the front of the ViewCube will turn the view until you are facing the front of the scene. The
ViewCube can also be dragged to rotate the view. For example, you can click on the cube and drag to
turn the cube which also turns the scene.
Once you have clicked on a viewpoint button, an animated view transition is performed smoothly
taking your viewpoint to the new position and orientation.
The ViewCube now offers you the opportunity of creating a ‘Home’ view for your model.
Note: see Navisworks User Guide for full description of View Cube toolset

5.6 New Clash Ignore Rule
You can now configure Clash Detective to ignore clashes between objects that are connected, as
identified by specific properties on each item, or parent item. Certain models, like those from Aveva
PDMS, contain property information that identifies which items of equipment should be connected
to a particular pipe line, for example. Currently you run a clash test of pipe lines against equipment,
these items that are connected together can be reported as a positive clash. You can now ignore
these false-positives if your model has this connection intelligence in the form of object properties.
Click to create a new Clash Rule and select ‘Specified Properties with the Same Value’:
