Goddess Durga also know as Devi and Shakti in Hinduism is perhaps the most important Goddess and represents power and strength. The mother of the universe is believed to be the supreme energy behind the creation, and preservation of our world. The nine forms of Durga hold special significance and meaning.
Happy Navratri
It means the daughter of the mountains and is also known as Parvati or Hemavati the
daughter of the king of Himalayas
Shailaputri
This is the second form of Goddess Durga and means one who follows devout austerity.
Brahmacharini
The third form of the Goddess has a half moon in her forehead and is worshipped for
prosperity, tranquility and peace.
Chandraghanta
The fourth form represents the creator of the universe and she spreads light like rays from the
sun.
Kushmanda
The fifth form is the mother of Skanda or Lord Kartikeya who was the commander in chief in
wars against the demons.
Skanda Mata
The sixth form is an avatar of Goddess Durga who was born to a sage called Kata.
Katyayani
The seventh form of the Goddess has a dark complexion and she holds a sword which assures
us of freedom from troubles and evils.
Kalaratri
The eighth form is worshipped on the eighth day of Navratri and the devotees get rid of the sins of their past and get purified in all aspects of life.
Mahagauri
This is the ninth form of the Goddess and blesses all the saints, yogis and devotees as a
manifestation of the Mother Goddess.
Siddhidatri
This is the ninth form of the Goddess and blesses all the saints, yogis and devotees as a
manifestation of the Mother Goddess.
