When Buildsmart was installed on your server, icons for Accounts, Procurement and Wages were created on the server, these icons can be copied onto the end users computers who need access to BuildSmart. Once the required icons have been placed on the user’s PC, please follow the below setup steps: Setting Internet Options:

Double click on any of the newly created BuildSmart icons (Please note the web address will be slightly different to the below screen shot as your server IP address will not be the same, it will always end in either acc (for Accounts) pos (for Procurement) or wgs (for Payroll)).

The browser will now be configured to enable Compatibility mode based on either the server name or IP address

Installing Crystal Reports Viewer (Version 8):

Go to the following web address http://www.buildsmart.co.za/downloads/bs/crystal.zip and save the file. Note this can be downloaded a single time and moved manually onto all the end users PC’s to reduce the data download impacts. Once downloaded open the zip file.

12

Note: The Crystal Report viewer has to be installed on every computer on which you will run the Buildsmart software, I fit is not installed the user will not be able to generate any reports from BuildSmart. Note 2: Crystal reports version 8 has shown to have some compatibility issues with more recent versions of Windows where reports cannot be printed, if this is found on an end users PC please refer to the user guide “How to upgrade a user to the new Crystal Reports”, this will guide you through how to install Crystal Reports 11, as of 1 July 2015 this version of Crystal Reports is being selectively installed as a beta to assist users who can’t run Crystal Reports 8.

Disabling Add-Ons in Internet Explorer: If certain Add-ons are not disabled prior to using BuildSmart the system will not run correctly.

Go to Buildsmart Login Page.

Click on Tools > Manage Add-ons.

The below screen will appear, make sure the “Show” drop down is set to “All add-on”.

Page 14: NB: Buildsmart uses the default web Port (80) and SQL Port

14

Disable all Add-ons that force security on Internet Explorer. Many third party Add-ons can cause rendering of the

Buildsmart scripts and break the pages, this can result in BuildSmart crashing and closing unexpectedly on the end

users PC, this will cause them to lose any work they had not saved/posted in BuildSmart.

To disable an Add-on, select the Add-on from the list and click on the “Disable” button.

Page 15: NB: Buildsmart uses the default web Port (80) and SQL Port

15

Note: As a rule of thumb, any add-on where the Publisher is not verified should be disabled. In some instances where the add-on has bene created from malware the add-on can’t be disabled from the above screen and instead the actual malware must be removed from the PC.

Turning Off User Account Control Settings

Ensure that all work that is open on the PC has been saved and closed.

From the users’ desktop lick on Start > Control Panel > User Accounts, double click on “Change User Account Control

Settings”.

Adjust the slide-bar down to “Never notify”, click on the “OK” button, this will then require the PC to be restarted.

In some instances even when the User Account Controls have bene turned off the user still gets a User Account Control Setting message when trying to activate an ActiveX, if this occurs then the User Account Controls must be turned off by updating the PC’s registry: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System] EnableLUA=dword:00000000

Creating the Buildsmart Folder:

The PC must have a BuildSmart folder created, this is used in the generation of reports from BuildSmart, the correct location for the folder is: c:\Program Files\Buildsmart

Provided the user has full admin rights on the PC and User Account Control has been turned off completely, Buildsmart will automatically create this folder. If not, you need to manually create the Buildsmart folder and configure the following Security Settings:

Click on C: Drive > Program Files, right click on the “Buildsmart” folder (If the folder is not available, please create it)

Click on Properties

Page 17: NB: Buildsmart uses the default web Port (80) and SQL Port

be underlined, click on the “OK” button.

Page 19: NB: Buildsmart uses the default web Port (80) and SQL Port

19

Tick the Full Control (Allow column) check box, then Click the “Apply” button followed by the “OK” button.

Note: If the User Account Controls is switched on and this folder has not been created with this security rights,

UAC automatically creates this folder in a different location. (c:\users\user\appdata\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files) This

however is not ideal because the reports do not get updated correctly and it complicates support on reporting issues.
