Editorial Desk ......

The Cadet Journal is a reflection of the Corps and its Cadets,

their accomplishments and activities. It is a great pleasure for

the editorial team to present this issue of ‘The Cadet’ to apprise

the esteemed readers about the various events and important

activities that took place in the year 2019-20.

The cadet Magazine is an effort to put into print the activities

and achievements of the Cadets and NCC. It encompasses News

Letters of all directorates and the activities that they have carried

out, throughout the year.

In this edition, apart from the pictorial depiction of the

events, a short brief has also been provided, the effort being to

make ‘The Cadet’ more interesting and holistic in nature. All

efforts have been made to widen the ambit and include more

topics of general interest.

BRIEF ON

REPUBLIC DAY CAMP

NCC Republic Day Camp is held every year in the month of Jan. The aim of the Republic Day Camp is to provide the cadets an exposure, to the rich culture and traditions of our nation and the important events that take place in the National Capital during the run up for Republic Day, besides projecting

to the nation the cherished ideals and capabilities of the cadets of the NCC. The camp portrays a reflection of “Mini India”.

A total of 2155 cadets participate in it, hailing from every nook and corner of the country. The strength includes 698 Girl cadets, 102 cadets from J&K and 162 cadets from North Eastern Region. These cadets are some of the best youth of the country, having emerged after a tough selection process.

The cadets take part in various competitions and put up a large number of programs for various events. In addition, cadets from some friendly foreign countries also attend the RDC. The Republic Day Camp for NCC cadets is a very prestigious event. The cadets arrive in end Dec after which they get busy in various activities that include preparing to receive the Honorable Vice President of India for the inauguration of the camp.

A number of VVIPs visit the Camp and the cadets take part in the Republic Day Parade also. The activities culminate in the PM’s Rally, a spectacular parade conducted exclusively by NCC. This camp is perhaps the most wonderful display of ‘Unity in Diversity’ of our vast country.

DIRECTOR GENERAL OPENS THE

NCC REPUBLIC DAY CAMP-2020

The NCC Republic Day (RD) Camp 2020, commenced at the Cariappa Parade Ground at Delhi Cantt on 01 Jan 2020. Lt Gen Rajeev Chopra,

PVSM, AVSM, ADC, Director General National Cadet Corps, addressed the cadets and officials on the occasion. He called upon the cadets to participate wholeheartedly and derive maximum benefits from each activity in the Camp.

The aim of the Republic Day Camp, is to provide an exposure, to the rich culture and traditions of our nation, through important events, that take place in the National Capital, during the run up to the Republic Day. Cadets attending the camp, participated in a number of activities, like cultural competitions, National Integration Awareness Programme and various Institutional Training Competitions. This varied and demanding array of activities culminated with the Prime Minister’s rally on 28 Jan 2020.

A total of 2155 cadets, including 710 girl cadets, drawn from all 28 States and 09 Union Territories of the country, participated in this one month long Camp. This included cadets from Jammu & Kashmir, from Ladakh and 120 cadets from the North Eastern Region (NER). The Camp, in fact, portrayed a reflection of “Mini India”. The Camp was visited by a number of dignitaries, including the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Hon’ble Raksha Mantri, Hon’ble Raksha Rajya Mantri, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi and the Chiefs of the Army, Navy and the Air Force.

PM ADDRESSES

THE NCC RALLY

The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, took the salute, at an impressive

ceremonial parade, held at Cariappa Parade Ground, Delhi Cantt by the NCC cadets. It was a grand spectacle of pageantry, marked with precision, as also a vibrant expression of pulsating energy and excellence embedded in the smart drill. One Hundred and Fifteen cadets from 10 friendly foreign countries, participating under Youth Exchange Programme (YEP), also marched along with their Indian counterparts. It was a true picture of the aspirational India, on their journey to become worthy empowered citizens, with sound values, inculcated by a common powerful binding force – the NATIONAL CADET CORPS.

The Prime Minister Rally, evolved in its present form in 1954 and since then, all the Prime Ministers have graciously presided over the event. About 2155 cadets participated in the rally this year, which was a fine culmination of the month long NCC Republic Day Camp 2020.

The smart march-past by the cadets from 17 NCC Directorates included a mounted column and the NCC bands marching in tune.
