2016 START DATE

Term 1, 2016 will start on Monday 1st February

PRINCE OF PENZANCE Hi my name is Scarlett, on the morning

of Friday 6th November I went to the civic green to see the

Melbourne Cup winner, Prince of Penzance. The jockey wasn’t

there. If you were there you may have had your photo taken with

Prince of Penzance like I did with my Mum and sister. Because I

had a photo taken I got to hold the trainers winning cup. The cup

was very heavy but I managed

to hold it. Every now and then

the horse would be walked in

circles around you. It was fun-

ny because the horse looks at

the camera when you want a

photo. It was so much FUN!!!

Scarlett Class 4-32

The annual year 6 Canberra study tour was completed last

week. Students thoroughly enjoyed an action packed and very ed-

ucational week. Highlights for students included the War Me-

morial, Parliament House and the night time activities including

indoor rock climbing and trampolining.

Thank you to Year 6 staff, Mr Clements, Mrs. Giblin, Mr John

Keats and Mr Rob Mack for all of their assistance on this highly

successful trip. Gina Mills Class 6-16.

Well done to the two teams representing WPS at the Milo T20 cricket on Tuesday.

Both teams made it through to the final round but were unsuccessful in the finals.

Students played well in the wet conditions. Thank you to the parents who assisted on

the day.

REMEMBERANCE DAY

Silence sweeps across the crowd like a blanket, remem-

bering those who have returned home, and those who never

will. On the 11th day, of the 11th month, 1918, the last gun

shots were fired, the last grenade had been thrown and the

last post had been played. The war had ended. On this day

we acknowledge those who fought for our freedom and many

others globally. On Wednesday, our JSC

Executive went to the RSL Remembrance Day Memorial. We

laid a wreath and listened to a few poems. It was a sad

service, but one well worth attending.

As the years condemn, we will remember them.

REMEMBERANCE DAY: On Wednesday we held a special assembly for our annual Remembrance Day

ceremony in the gym. The JSC did a magnificent job in putting together a respectful ceremony and

the school students responded accordingly. I had the pleasure of escorting school leaders Ali, Holly,

Ben and Grace to the memorial shrine at Cannon Hill to lay a wreath on behalf of the school

community. Our leaders did the school proud in the way they carried themselves at what is generally

a solemn occasion. Thanks to Mrs. Nelson for organising students and the wreath.

ASPIRING LEADERS: Yesterday our Yr 5 students aspiring to be school leaders in 2016 presented

their case to their peers, this year’s JSC Executive, Yr 5 teachers and myself. The quality of the

presentations was most impressive, with all students demonstrating a high level of confidence and

clarity in their arguments. Well done and good luck to all candidates.

NOT RETURNING IN 2016? It is important for us to be aware of those who will not be returning

to Warrnambool Primary School next year. If your child/ren won’t be with us next year can you

please inform Julianna in the office (Yr 6’s excluded of course).

WPS BUS TRAVELLERS

Could parent’s please remember to ring the office before 3.00pm if

your child is not travelling on the bus on their designated day. This

information is important to assist our bus monitors with keeping the bus

schedule organised and on time. Thanks.

2015 START DATES: Staff will return to school on Wednesday 27th January. Students in Prep, Yr

1 and Yr 2 will be timetabled to attend school for a time on Thursday 28th or Friday 29th for

Numeracy testing. Students in Yrs 3 – 6 will be called in for individual PROBE (comprehension)

testing during the same period. These arrangements will enable a much smoother start to the 2016

school year for students and will also ensure teachers have the latest up to date data on your child,

as well as having the opportunity for parents and teachers to meet. The first day of ‘whole school’

classes will be Monday 1st February. Preps will have no Wednesday classes for the month of February

as they will be involved in literacy testing.
