OVERVIEW OF THE PROGRAMME IN MEDICINE
OVERVIEW OF THE PROGRAMME IN DENTAL MEDICINE
The Faculty of Medicine has over 50-years' experience in training both Bulgarian and international students. After the successful completion of the 6-year course of academic studies in the programme of Medicine, students are awarded a Diploma of completed higher medical education.Graduates receive a Master's degree along with the professional qualification "physician". The possession of that degree enables the holder to practice medicine in EU countries. Graduates can also practice in many other countries.Upon graduation, along with the medical Diploma graduates obtain a Europass Diploma Supplement in English. The normal length of the programme is six years (ten semesters and one-year (310 calendar days) state clinical internships). Except for the fact that instructions, labs, lectures and examinations are conducted in English, the curriculum of the six-year medical studies in English is completely identical with the coursework pursued by Bulgarian medical students. The first two years of medical school includes an overview of fundamental or basic science courses. The first year is devoted to general understanding of biological, chemical and physical sciences applicable to the practice of medicine. Starting with the second year, the focus progressively is narrowed down, channeling the studies towards those biomedical sciences that are most relevant for a practicing physician. The preclinical education is integrated to the clinical one.The clinical years are what all medical students anticipate - a time when lectures and lab classes translate into patient care. The clinical studies examine the application of the biomedical sciences mastered during the first two years of medical school. The teaching from the third year onwards takes place exclusively in clinical settings and involves work with patients admitted for treatment at the University teaching hospitals.
The curriculum is forward - looking and innovative. The program is designed to graduate a doctor of dental medicine who will be prepared to practice general dentistry as it is expected to evolve in the years ahead. The training in Dental Medicine is full-time only. The course of study lasts six years and includes three stages (6 years) – during the first two years, students are trained in medical and biological subjects (first stage). Under the tutelage of highly trained and productive scientists, the student acquires a solid foundation in biomedical sciences. This knowledge forms the basis for understanding the wide variety of diseases that a dentist must diagnose and treat; it also forms the foundation for the effective practice of preventive dentistry. Skillful and experienced clinical teachers guide the student in acquiring technical skills and developing clinical judgement. Clinical and medical training is conducted from second to tenth semester as it includes specialized training in general medical and clinical disciplines (second degree). The pre-graduation internship/practice (third stage) is performed in cycles in prosthetic dentistry, conservative dental treatment, periodontology and diseases of the oral mucosa; oral and maxillo-facial surgery, pediatric Dental Medicine, orthodontics. Every cycle ends with a state examination.Upon graduation, students obtain the professional qualification of "Master-doctor in Dental Medicine" and education and qualification degree "Master".

“I applied directly by contacting the admission office that gave me a warm welcome and helped me all the way with every question that troubled me.The university itself feels like home to me, where everyone is doing their best and tries to help you as much as possible, both students and professors. The studies didn't make much sense in the beginning for me, but as you climb up the ladder, you realize that it was not a waste of time and all the pieces start to fall in place that helps you understand. As for the city, Varna, I love it! It's a small and cozy city where you feel like you belong as a student. It's full with activities that you can do when you have spare time. The same goes for the country that has breathtaking natures and is amazing to travel in during the whole year.”
thSo Fudjiwara – 6 year medical student (Bulgarian language of Education) from Japan “All teachers are kind and they are always ready to help! In the beginning when I came here in Varna I was extremely nervous. I couldn`t make it on my first examination and now I am very satisfied because I am in the 6th year.”
thCatherina Bommert – 6 year medical student from Germany (English language Programme)
“I am very satisfied with my medical studies at the University. Professors have good command of English language and they make a great effort to teach us in the discipline they are responsible for. From the 4th semester onwards we do have lots of practical classes at St. Marina University hospital with patients. My study group consists of 10 students who come from all over the world. There are students in my group from Germany, Cyprus, Switzerland, Greece, Nigeria, Turkey. The small group allows us to learn intensively which is a great advantage in the Practical part of the training.”
th Wiktoria Andrzejewska – 4 year student from Poland, DMD programme in English
„It is very nice that you have a lot of practice here-we do start from first year here working with teeth and preparing for dentistry. It is good that we have really good contact between the students and the teachers which is really nice and useful. Another advantage is that the groups are small”.

OUR STUDENTS ABOUT US
„ My name is .
I am a Medical Doctor since 2007. Nowadays I am working in the University Hospital in Brussels, Belgium. I am doing a specialization in Medical Oncology. I am proud to have done my medical education in the Medical University-Varna. That is an institution with an impressing history and a promising future. The professors are very motivated and in the same time very understandable toward the difficulties of the future doctors. The team of Medical University Varna is very motivated which is giving us the opportunity to learn according to the last guidelines and on modern technics.
The students are not only building the bases of the medical knowledge but developing a scientific way of thinking; the ability to save life and cure the patients. They have also the possibility to be creative and choose their supplementary activities. The theory is very well associated with the clinical practice in Modern University Hospitals.
All of that prepared me to be able to work and be competitive in the European health system. But for me, Medical University Varna is not only a place to study. It is where I met one of my best friends and great examples for being a good doctor and a good person. Apart of the studies, Varna is a great place for relaxing and having fun.
If I need to go back in time, I will choose again studying medicine at Medical University Varna! “
