NSNP Background
• 1994, introduced by former President, Mr Nelson Mandela as part of RDP
• 2004, transferred to the Department of Education and renamed the National School Nutrition Programme (NSNP), following intense review
• Targets primary and secondary schools in quintiles 1 - 3.
• Funded through Conditional Grant in accordance with Division of Revenue Act (DORA), 97% for meals
• Action Plan 2014 , Towards Schooling 2025 -poverty reduction interventions (Goal 25)
• Care and Support for Teaching and learning (CSTL) - schools as inclusive centres of learning, has potential to provide a safety for children as they become protected

To contribute to teaching and learning by working with provinces and districts in
providing nutritious meals
2.NUTRITION EDUCATION To strengthen nutrition education for school communities to

3.Sustainable Food Production in Schools
To promote sustainable food gardens in schools to develop skills

Objectives of the Partnership
• To provide Breakfast Programme in a certain number of identified schools are supported to provide cereal meals to complement the main NSNP lunch meal
• To support education programme to ensure quality and success in teaching and learning
• Tiger Brands Foundation sponsored the various projects to the total value of over R11 million.
