NSNP Background

• 1994, introduced by former President, Mr Nelson Mandela as part of RDP

• 2004, transferred to the Department of Education and renamed the National School Nutrition Programme (NSNP), following intense review

• Targets primary and secondary schools in quintiles 1 - 3.

• Funded through Conditional Grant in accordance with Division of Revenue Act (DORA), 97% for meals

• Action Plan 2014 , Towards Schooling 2025 -poverty reduction interventions (Goal 25)

• Care and Support for Teaching and learning (CSTL) - schools as inclusive centres of learning, has potential to provide a safety for children as they become protected

Objectives of the Partnership

• To provide Breakfast Programme in a certain number of identified schools are supported to provide cereal meals to complement the main NSNP lunch meal

• To support education programme to ensure quality and success in teaching and learning

• Tiger Brands Foundation sponsored the various projects to the total value of over R11 million.
