DAY1|KATHMANDU

Admire famous attractions such asKumari Bahal, abuildingrichlydecoratedwithbeautifulwoodcarvings,whichishometotheRoyalKumari,achildwhoisa‘livinggoddess’and a manifestation of the deity, Durga. Nearby is Hanuman Dhoka, the former royal palace, whose Nassal ChowkcourtyardwasthecoronationsiteoftheShahkingsandcontainssomeofthefinestwoodcarvingsyou’llseeanywhere.The 14th century Jagannath Mandir is the oldest temple in the area, its steps carved with inscriptions in a variouslanguages.Closeby,TalejuMandir isoneofthelargestandfinesttemplesintheKathmanduvalleyandisdedicatedtothepatrondeityoftheformerroyalfamily,thewrathfulTalejuBhawanu.Intheevening,visitUtsav,alocalrestaurant,

DAY2|KATHMANDU–PATAN–KATHMANDU(10km–30mins)

Breakfast at the hotel is followed by a spiritual start to the day with amorning sightseeing tour taking in the HinduPashupatinathtempleandtheBoudhanath,thelargestBuddhiststupainNepal.LocatedonthebanksoftheholyRiverBagmati,thevastPashupatinathisdedicatedtotheLordShivaandisoneofthemostsacredHindushrinesintheworld.Thousandsofpilgrims flock to this templeeveryyearduringShivaratri, thebirthdayof theLordShiva.Therearemanyeye-catchingelementssuchasthelarge,gildedtriple-roofedtemplebutthereissomuchgoingonaroundyou,withthethrongsof faithfulandpilgrims, that thedinofhustleandbustlebecomesanattraction in itself.Entrance to themaintempleislimitedtoHindusonly.BeholdthebeautifulBuddhistBoudhanathstupa,whichtracesitsoriginstoKingManaDevinthefifthcentury.ThisUNESCOWorldHeritageSiteisoneoftheworld’sleadingcentresofTibetanBuddhismandisbedeckedwithtraditionalprayerrollsandTibetanprayerflags.LunchisinarestaurantintheBoudhanath.The afternoon is dedicated to exploring Durbar Square inPatan, a historic city just a few kilometres south of centralKathmandu. This traditionally Buddhist bastion – theymake up about one-sixth of Nepal’s population – is a veritableOrientaltreasuretrovewhereBuddhismandHinduismmeet,creatingafascinatingarchitecturallandscapeintheNewarstyle.Durbar Square is considered tobeoneof the finest urban streetscapes in theworld, the centrepiecebeing thepalaceoftheMallamonarchs,whoruledNepalforsixcenturies.Wanderthisstunningcomplex,whichboastsaseriesofbeautiful courtyards with ornamented windows and colonnaded arcades, temples and shrines, all noted for theirexquisite carvings. DAY6|POKHARA

StartthedayonahighineverysenseofthewordbywitnessingsunrisefromSarangkot,a1,600-metre-highmountaininthenorthernshoreofLakePhewa.(Thissegmentissubjecttoweatherconditions.)Intheflickeringlightofearlymorning,watchastheeightsnowcappedpeaksoftheAnnapurnarangearebathedinakaleidoscopeofgolden-huedshades–atruly awe-inspiring natural phenomenon. Tea/coffee is served at a local café in Sarangkot. Pass through the beautifulSchima-Catonopsisforestonthewaytothelookout,fromwhereyoucanalsoenjoyviewsoverthelakeanditstributaryrivers.Returnthroughtheforest–whichcannowbeappreciatedinthesplendoursofthenaturallightburstingthroughthebranches–forbreakfastatthehotel.Oncereplenished,enjoyamorningsightseeingtourofPokharacityandaboatride on Lake Phewa to theTaal Barahi temple,which isdedicated to theHindudeityDurgaandoccupiesa tiny tree-covered islet about200metres from thewaterfront.
