Plasma Membrane

By: Korinne Young

The chocolate icing was used as the plasma membrane because the icing is thick and that’s what we imagine the real plasma membrane to be like. The plasma membrane of a regular cell functions by not letting certain particles go in or out of the cell.

Nucleus

By: Nichole Heitzenrater

We used an Oreo for the nucleus because we could take the top off of it to show the nucleolus. The function of the nucleus is to contain DNA and it dictates what proteins the cell produces.

Lyosomes

By: Korinne Young

The gushers were used as lysosomes because the filling inside represents the materials the cell can use. The lysosomes function is to clean up the cell and collect the materials that the cell can use.

Cell/Cell Wall

By: Nick Kennis

I made the cell wall out of BROWNIE because it was thick enough to make a good bowl to hold all the other parts of the edible cell and delicious. In a real plant cell, the cell wall protects the cell and help keep it’s shape.

Cytoplasm

By: Korinne Young

We used the vanilla icing as cytoplasm because the icing held everything in place. The function of cytoplasm in a cell is to maintain the internal pressure of the cell.

Ribosomes

By: Alexis Martin

We used brown sprinkles for the ribosomes because they represented the small pods all throughout the cell that are ribosomes. The ribosomes produce the cell’s proteins.

Chromosomes

By: Alexis Martin

We used the blue sprinkles for the chromosomes because they were small enough to fit into the oreo cream. Chromosomes hold the cell’s DNA.

Golgi Apparatus

We used a Fruit Roll Up for the Golgi apparatus because we could bend it to the form we needed. The Golgi Apparatus modifies, sorts, and pack molecules.

Chloroplast

We used Jelly Beans for the chloroplasts because they have a similar shape. The chloroplasts convert the sun’s rays into energy that the cell can use.

Endoplasmic Reticulum

By: Korinne Young

The air heads were the endoplasmic reticulum because they were able to be shaped the way we needed it to. The function of the endoplasmic reticulum in a cell is assembles proteins from cytosol and helps make fat and hormones.

Vacuole

The vacuole is Jello because what holds water better than a vacuole then Jello. The function of a vacuole in a cell is to store food, water, and waste.

Mitochondria

By: Alexis Martin

We used Nutter Butters for the mitochondria because they resemble mitochondria, and the peanut butter inside represents the ATP.The mitochondria produce ATP and use glucose to make energy-rich molecules.
