Ritual Addendum: 2002

Plot Committee has discretionary authority over RitualSuccess:

Please note, that a local plot committee reserves the right to step in at any timeduring the course of a ritual and assign plot eects and resolutions to a ritual beingcast by a player or non-player character.

Consuming Components in the Ritual Circle at the Time ofCasting:

If there are more components in the casters possession then are needed to cast theritual the ritual caster can chose which are consumed as long as she meets thecomponent requirements of the scroll for the ritual she is casting.

The Cost of Spell Crafting a Ritual:

The cost of Spell rafting a ritual can be values other then ! reagents, sometimescertain rituals will cost only one reagent to spell craft.

Dead individuals may not be the targets of a ritual:

" ritual cannot be cast upon a target that is dead, and in their #-minute death countunless speci$cally indicated on the ritual scroll. "ttempting to cast a ritual upon aperson who is in their death count will cause the ritual to not begin. In individualbecoming dead during the course of the ritual causing the ritual to fail, andimmediately causes an automatic bac%lash. In this regard a target would respond&'o "ect( if they were the recipient of a )ragon or Shadow *agic spell when in the&)ead( state.

ptional Rule: !ultiple Casters

Two or more ritual casters may participate in the casting of the same ritual.Participants all wor%ing to cast the same ritual are recogni+ed in two speci$ccategories, the primary and the Secondary aster. nly one caster may be a Primaryaster, and any additional casters participating in the ritual are designated asSecondary asters.

I*PT"'T" Primary aster must have at least a / in /0 chance to successfully complete theritual, 1232 the di4culty reduction of any Secondary asters is added.

In order to participate in a ritual as a Secondary aster, you must have the sameaspect as that of the Primary aster. 3or e5ample, a Primary aster who is of thecelestial aspect can have Secondary asters who are of the celestial aspect aid themin casting their ritual. " Secondary aster may not be of a dierent aspect, and stillaid in the casting of the ritual.

In order to participate in a ritual as a Secondary aster, the caster must have at least/ level of the s%ill formal magic. "ny levels possessed by the Secondary aster

beyond one level of formal magic does not impact on the success of a 6ointly castritual. This must be veri$ed by the ritual marshal prior to the casting of the ritual forall individuals who which to aid the ritual as a Secondary aster.

2ach Secondary aster aiding in the casting of a ritual adds one level of formal magicto the Primary aster7s formal magic levels. " Primary aster may have one

Secondary aster aiding them in the ritual they are casting for each level of formalmagic they possess. Secondary asters do not cancel out the ma5imum 8 in /0chances to successfully complete the ritual.

" 9aw or bac%lash is always encountered on a die roll of 0, so Secondary asters cannever improve the odds of a ritual success to greater the 80:. If more individualswish to participate in the ritual but cannot further improve the odds of success theymay participate. Such individuals however are still sub6ect to the ris%s andrestrictions of being a Secondary aster as listed in the ne5t paragraphs.

" Secondary aster is under the same restrictions of actions as a Primary aster withsome e5ceptions. " Secondary aster however is not bound personally to have theritual scroll and components in their possession. The Secondary aster does not

have to see or read the ritual scroll in question to provide aid during a ritual. TheSecondary does not have to touch the target when the ritual casting begins. Theonly manner in which a Secondary aster can harm or hinder a ritual is by causing anautomatic bac%lash in some manner, they cannot magically alter, increase di4culty,or suddenly withdraw their support once a ritual as commenced.

If the Primary aster is sub6ect to any 9aws and bac%lashes encounters, theSecondary asters are sub6ect to the same eect as if they were the Primary aster.

Conducting the Ritual :

In order to successfully complete a ritual the ritual caster must be in a circle of power

and have the following things available to him or in his possession

itual scroll that they have at least a / in /0 chance of successfully casting without a9aw or bac%lash." valid ircle of Power of the their aspect. ;2arth casters for e5ample may not start aritual in a celestial circle<"ll of the required components needed to cast at least the lowest level ritual from thechosen ritual scroll." valid target for the ritual.

A formal caster cannot start a ritual if:

They do not have a ritual scroll.

The do not have the components listed on the ritual scroll for at least the lowest levelritual they intended to cast."re not in a ircle of Power."re not in a ircle of Power of their aspect.)o not have at least / in /0 chance of successfully casting the ritual in question, without Secondary casters.annot read the scroll for some reason, such as inadequate light.)o not have the current ability to cast battle magic and use game s%ills. If their target is dead, in the midst of their # minute count.

" caster must immediately declare the target once they begin the ritual. 3ailure todeclare the target within =0 seconds of beginning the ritual results in an automaticbac%lash. This declared target becomes the target for the ritual.

nce a player states the words &12>I' IT?"@ "STI'>( the ritual is actively beingcast. The player must be able to see the ritual scroll they are casting from at alltimes during the course of the ritual. The player can furthermore not conduct anyother actions other than those required in the ritual scroll. "llowable actions includefor e5ample casting spells to place into an item, but would not for e5ample allow $rstaiding someone in the circle. If a disallowable action occurs during the course of theritual then the ritual immediately fails.

 Allowable Actions include the following:

asting spells into an item as indicated on the ritual scroll.?tili+ing s%ills from the formal caster or a willing person to store a s%ill into an item.eadABrite is an allowable s%ill.3ormal itual asting is an allowable s%ill.

ircle of Power is entered while ritual is conducted by means other than SpiritBal%, Spirit ecall, or esurrection.ircle of Power representation is not properly set up as per ircle of Powerspell rules prior to the beginning of the ritual.

The circle e5pires."ttempting to cast an additional formal magic ritual in the same circle, whileanother formal magic ritual is being cast. ;This includes attempting to casttwo rituals from the same scroll at the same time, and two dierent ritualscrolls being used<

Actions involving Skills that cause Automatic Backlash:3ormal aster ;Primary or Secondary< becomes unable to cast battle magic oruse game s%ills.

The target, caster ;Primary or Secondary<, or anyone in the circle once theritual has started, leaves the circle during the casting of the ritual.

The caster ;Primary nly< attempts to cast a higher-powered ritual and doesnot have at least a / in /0 chance of successfully casting the ritual without a9aw orbac%lash.3ormal aster ;Primary or Secondary< conducts any action involving the useof a 'ero game s%ill other then what is speci$cally indicated in the ritualscroll or considered an allowable action.

Actions occurring to or caused by the Ritual Caster that cause an Automatic Backlash: The ritual caster ;Primary or Secondary< is hit by any weapon or pac%et

attac% even if that attac% would not in any way harm them. The 3ormal aster ;Primary or Secondary< activates a magic item. The aster ;Primary nly< does not touch the target when the ritual beginswithin C0 seconds of the starting of the ritual.3ormal aster ;Primary nly< selects a target for the ritual that is invalidaccording to the ritual scroll.

The target of the ritual becomes )ead ;in their # minutes count< during thecourse of the ritual.

Target of the ritual is destroyed before the ritual is completed. Actions involving Components and Ritual Scroll that cause an AutomaticBacklash:

The caster ;Primary nly< attempts to cast a higher-powered ritual and does

not have the required components. If any of the components or the ritual scroll are destroyed by some meansbefore the end of the ritual.3ormal aster ;Primary nly< casts a ritual with an e5pired component3ormal aster ;Primary nly< fails to follow instructions speci$cally on theritual scroll.3ormal aster ;Primary nly< cannot read the ritual scroll at some pointduring the ritual for any duration longer then # seconds. ;@ac% of @ight,

something placed over the ritual scroll, loses line of sight with the ritualscroll<3ormal aster ;Primary nly< loses possession of the ritual scroll or any of thecomponents in such as way as he loses sight of the ritual scroll or thecomponents.

The ritual scroll or ritual components leave the circle of power during the

ritual. The 3ormal aster ;Primary nly< fails to follow additional requirements of theritual listed on the ritual scroll are not met.

If an automatic bac%lash occurs, a die roll is made upon the bac%lash list."ny ritual that suers an automatic bac%lash is assumed to immediately fail."ll catalysts and reagents are consumed in a ritual that suers an automaticbac%lash.

The use of any other s%ill is considered a disallowable s%ill, unless speci$callyinstructed on the ritual scroll.

Role-playing a ritual:Players are of course encouraged to role-play their ritual casting in a non-oensive manner that is not insulting to anyone7s religious beliefs. Thisma%es the rituals more fun and individual and gets people into the role-playing moment of being a magician of great power.

@ogistical ami$cations of the itual onducted

nce you have completed your ritual the itual *arshal will need to awardyou either a Temporary Tag for the itual conducted, resolve 3laws and1ac%lashes you accrued, or ma%e sure the itual eect is carried out. ;1yinforming the plot committee or conducting the results herself<

 Awarding a Temporary Tag:

Dour logistics Sta should have pre-generated Temporary *agic item tagsavailable to their ritual marshals. This allows the itual *arshal to write downwhat rituals you have conducted and indicate that a permanent tag should beawarded at the end of the wee%end or at the beginning of the ne5t event.

The tag should indicate the target of the ritual, the speci$c rituals in question, etc. This should be signed by the itual *arshal, and followed up with your@ogistical Sta or ules Sta at the end of the wee%end. The spells cast intothe item if relevant, should be the tags used for the $rst set of charges forthe item.

"warding 3laws and 1ac%lashes

" itual *arshal might not be awarding you a positive aect, but may insteadbe awarding you with a negative aftermath of a ritual gone wrong. In somecases eects suered by 3ormal asters are written on player cards, or inrare cases immediately put upon the 3ormal aster. ;25ample 3ormal asterresurrects<
