Functions?

The Nervous System controls all of your body’s actions and functions.

It senses changes not only within your body but also outside of it in your environment and enables you to respond within fractions of a second

Page 3: Nervous System 1

Structure…

There are two main divisions of the nervous system 1. The central nervous system(CNS) 2. The peripheral nervous system (PNS)

The PNS gathers information from outside and inside the body.

The CNS receives and analyzes this info and initiates a response.

The PNS then picks up and carries the response signals

Care of the nervous system

Exercise

Proper nutrition

Adequate rest and sleep

Additional Care

Many Head and Spinal cord injuries can be avoided by…

Wearing a seatbelt Checking water depth before you dive in And use a helmet

Problems??

Head and spinal cord injuries. Any direct blow to the head can cause

injury. A spinal injury can result in paralysis of the

legs or of the arms and legs

Diseases

Parkinson’s Disease: the victim shakes uncontrollably, as it progresses, the trembling gets more severe.

Multiple sclerosis: it involves the destruction of the myelin sheath that surround the nerve fibers in the brain and spinal cord, control of the muscles is lost.

Alzheimer Disease: mental disorientation. Patients gradually lose their memory and sense of judgment.
